Imo movesets are much more important. Obviously it would be good to have the best of both, but some Pokemon are really hard to come by. It matters. My Blastoise has shitty IVs, I thought it wouldn't be an issue, turns out he'll have ~200 CP less than a maxed one at max level =/ My Dragonite is 100% IV, at max lvl he'll have 3500 CP, what a beast. A 0% IV Dragonite would probably strand at 3200-3300 CP. Moveset depends on Pokemon I guess. For Dragonite the worst set you can have is Steel Wing / Hyper Beam, that's meant to be a defensive Dragonite but it's 10% worse than Steel Wing / Dragon Pulse. No big deal. So here I would say IVs are more important. 200CP more doesn't say much about real battle efficiency tho, their formulas are using a lot of round-ups.
Define "a lot"
This is the formula: (BaseAtk + IndAtk) * (BaseDef + IndDef)^0.5 * (BaseSta + IndSta)^0.5 * (0.790300)^2 / 10
at the end you take the floor of this value and that's CP. That's the only rounding that happens to the IVs.
Rounding happens in BaseAtk and BaseDef, but IVs are factored in afterwards.
Basically a 0 IV Dragonite has an Attack ratio of 250, with perfect IV it is 265, up to you if it's worth it or not. CP ranges from 3067 to 3500.

There were some calculus on SilphRoad that hinted that IV didn't even change the length of some/a lot/I don't remember exactly matchups...
The most useful thing IV are providing are bragging rights and being at the top of the gym, allowing your pokemon to stay longer when it's being attacked. On some pokemons the moveset don't change the DPS much, but on Gyarados for example 0% IV hydro pump shits on any% IV twister gyarados, unfortunately.

I'd be interested to see that post. The one I could find is this: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/4wblf8/actual_impact_of_ivs_on_battle_performance/ Stating the top 12 pokemon usually do 25% more damage with 100% IV vs 0% IV.

Did you read the first comment in that post?
This line in particular: No matter how you slice it, an IV of 15 represents about an 8% change in Vaporeon's final attack stat, so you would see that change reflected in the overall damage output.

What is the highest CP you have gotten from an egg? I got a 1260 magmar yesterday
|
Mine was a 1350 Lapras around lvl 16. If I hatch a Snorlax/Lapras now it'd be higher but no luck yet.
|
The thing about IVs though is the way the game is setup you can get by holding out without really wasting much time. Most pokemon you'll get at least a high 80s if not 90s pokemon by time you can evolve them and for a lot of lines you don't need the pokemon right away for battling anyways.
I think Arcanine is the only mon I was too impatient to find a good one for because they never spawn around me and I evolved it entirely from ones I caught on a trip + hatching.
That and pokemon where I have enough candy to evolve multiple and one decent one to evolve, but no amazing ones (Poliwag and Vulpix).

Now that appraisals are out I just wait for "Its a wonder" pokemon. To lazy to pin down IVs. I'll IV check if I have more than 1 candidate for evolution.
Certain shitty mons like Magneton and Dugtrio I literally just caught what was needed and evolved. I will keep catching Magnemite because they are the only steel types for the medal but Diglett, I am done with lol

I got the dragonite, scanned saw the chansey and went for it and then went home. Didn't even see/scan the blastoise and snorlax lmao
1081 cp dragonite with 84% iv and dragon breath/hyper beam 84 cp chansey...don't care about the rest :D
the sad part is that after I went home, at least 3 more dragonites spawned

oh shit, chansey respawned. caught it. pound/hyper beam!

does your current level have any bearing on the CP of the pokemon you hatch? I got my first 10km hatched at lk lvl8 and its cp was close to 1000. Fast forward to lvl 22 and I just hatched a hitmonlee and hitmonchan, both at CP 800. Wouldve thought that higher trainer level would lead to higher CPs out of eggs but doesnt seem to be the case

I think Lee and Chan or just low CP at those levels.

I was taking down a blue gym with 3 pokemon. As I beat it once the gym was left with two (2kish) vaporeons. As I started the second round I noticed somebody else attacking the same gym, but my phone stopped working so I had to restart. As it was restarting I looked around to see who else was there, and there was some dude with his young looking son (7-12 yrs old?) . After my phone rebooted I saw that the gym's prestige had not changed. Right when I beat the gym to make it colorless I noticed the two of them walking away looking defeated. So I put in a crappy Pokemon since I'm planning to just collect and go (I'm yellow). The two of them immediately turn around and sure enough the gym is under attack again. They end up being red and putting a 800ish cp flareon. If that was among his stronger pokemon he was never beating two 2k vaporeons.
Dunno, that kids smile made my day enough that I felt like sharing.
