I'd be surprised if the remake is even 10% complete as there is no way they could have kept this project secret longer than just a few months. After the FF7 port to next gen consoles was announced and the resulting disaster that it was met with, it still hasn't been released, they probably decided to bite the bullet and go for the remake.

I look forward to that rail shooter ride mini game thing. That was a lot of fun.

i remember the first time i played, i got stuck in a area for a whole week. the little town by the shore where there is a little desert place near by with a huge snake roaming around and would attack you if you try to walk across it (i got across once because i had no idea where to go)

only after roaming around everywhere did i figure out you can press the select button and which would put an arrow to all the zone entrance/exit. i just had to go little more south in the town by the shore and voila, there's the next zone where you fight a water creature, leviathan or something if i recall.

this is the first game where i learned a lot of english. i swore to my parents all this reading was doing me good.

I'm looking forward to this and yet I think the old version has/had its charm, too, because not everything was perfect and well rounded. Left a lot of room for your own interpretation

2015-2016 looks to be a truly great time period for console gaming:

-FF7 finally, after all those years of those troll bastards teasing us
-Fallout 4
-Halo 5 might be worth looking into if they can come back from the clusterfuck that was H4 as a whole, and Reach's multiplayer.
-Forza 6 looks oh so sweet
-Some degree of backwards compatibility for Xbone
-MGS5, potentially the last Kojima involvement in the series
-Battlefront 3!
-Doom looking pretty badass! I know lots of old fans of the series don't like it ("too Halo-like" and "slow"), but I was never into the first two anyway. I like better the creepiness and gorror that was brought about by Doom 3.
-If Rise of the Tomb Raider is good like Reboot, I'll like it a lot
-The next South Park game with Trey and Matt on board. Stick of Truth was pretty amazing for a fan of the show, hopefully this one will be as good or better.
-Other big name title drops, though I'm not necessarily interested in them: COD (bleh), Street Fighter 5, Gran Turismo 7, Dark Souls 3, Need for Speed, Gears of War, Uncharted, Shenmue, Fable, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.

Nintendo had a pretty disappointing E3 this year IMO. Either I'm just not that into what they are pushing or they are planning on riding Smash, Mario and Zelda along with the 3DS until they reveal their next console.

Reading offhandedly today about the FF7 remake made me about lose my shit. It's been going around kotaku and reddit that if Valve announces Half-Life 3 we should keep an eye out for the Apocalypse around the corner.
fuck art its a competition if you dont get pissed off when you lose you dont care enough - Idra, on the "art" of RTS games.

That was the plan all along, at this point its just, put enough games to keep people entertained but not enough to waste that much money and development.

the 3DS line up was much, much better

wot wud u change to ff7 combat system?

it was only challenging when u were having to spam heals to barely stay alive whilst dealing damage

99% of the time i just amoved with basic attacks iirc. all materia was sick but apart from the very start of the game i think i just amoved everyone

so maybe if combat was more fluid/less wait times

maybe if it was a lot more "dangerous" , but negative effects of losing combat dont necessarily have to be "you die, game over", maybe you dont gain xp or ap if you get wrecked in a fight. or maybe you LOSE xp/ap if you screw up a fight (like lastgen MMOs, where dying actually meant something and it created huge tension)

In terms of the battle system, I'd like them to find more ways to differentiate the characters aside from limit breaks and some slight base stat differences. Something like FF6's system where there's customization by assigning Espers to whoever you want, but everyone also had their exclusive abilities so there's more of a reason to mix up your party. I don't want a bunch of clones come endgame. Being able to equip everyone with more items would also be cool (think FF9). I never liked being limited to just a weapon and accessory with materia slots.

Next, I may be wrong about this as I never managed to play any games in the FF13 series, but I'm pretty sure FF9 was the last in FF to feature the overworld (and a damn good one at that). This needs to make a big comeback (or rather stay intact). I loved the exploration and non-linearity this used to provide even if it meant more random encounters when traveling from zone to zone.

I'd like them to bring over the hunt system from FF12 as well. That was a brilliant idea that kept the game interesting and non-linear in the midst of a rather dull story. Finally, I said this before, but the game needs super bosses out the ass. FF10 Monster Arena style!

edit: oh yeah, and the ultimate weapons need to be more interesting/harder to obtain. Not that they're really needed but I always found it fun trying to hunt them all down just for the hell of it. FF10 did this the best by far in forcing you to not only scour the world for them, but to also play all the mini-games to fully unlock their power.

Finally scraping the bottom of their stagnant barrel? FF7 isn't even my fav PS1 FF, Tactics and 9 where better. Hope they don't replace the whole game with cutscenes and awkward act transitions as per their recent games.

top 3 things I'm looking forward to with FF7 remake :

*Aerith's possible complete storyline (parts were cut due to budget and time constraints and what not)
*Tifa's enormous..."bosom"... and how they will defy gravity... now only in HD!
*Cloud dressing up as an escort girl as he's about to earn his money by getting "friendly" with the old man.

Need to contain my hype, this was the game that got me into gaming, this one changed everything for me, so much memories, me and my sisters played through most of it at least a couple of times before finishing it for the first time. Also, yeah, thanks Square for making my sister buy a PS4 for the household

That said, on the Gamespot stream they were discussing that they wouldn't want to play this if they stuck to the turn based combat, hoping they would make it more like FFXV. I was like... what? no... why would they change that, wouldn't be a remake if they turned the game into an action game just because apparently next gen graphics are too good to be bothered with turn based combat according to some people on Gamespot. I really don't want VII to have kingdom hearts or ffxv like combat, that would totally ruin it in my opinion, some tweaks would be nice but stick to turn based combat.

Agree. They can polish the combat mechanics, but they cannot mess with the turn-based system. I don't really imagine the materia system would work well without turn-based fights. The two form a solid strategic combo.

i hope they redesign the whole game. i dont think the turn based combat of the ff games (up until ff13 i think?) will be a lot of fun nowaday.

It depends on who they want to sell it to: nostalgics or gamers in general. FF7 & 8's combat systems are hopelessly outdated.

I don't think they can really mess with the battle system without pissing everyone off. The best we can hope for is for them to rebalance stuff so spamming Cait Sith slots / Tifa powersoul isn't the go to strat for every fight regardless of where you are in the game.

if they sell it as a new game and not just "hey look, its ff7, remember when you were 12 years old and played it?" i think they can have much more success with a completely new game. unless you have played the game in the 90s and are heavily blinded by nostalgia, there is no way people will enjoy the slow paced and one dimensional combat system of ff7.
