Yeah I will use the LW stuff probably when I play again. SMG pack wasn't that great, but liked Muton Centurion and Leadership abilities.

What is everyone's opinion on the Shen DLC? Just one new class with some side mission to unlock the mechs. Seems kind of lackluster as I would have liked at least something new with the enemies too. Though there appears to be a mod where Advent gets a weaker version of your mech class.

I LOVED THE NEW STORY MISSION. Yeah it is only one mission but holy hell it was an awesome mission. This is how unique missions should be done.

I really liked that it was a 3-part mission. My favorite part got to be the second part with the toxic gas

It is doable ASAP, but it is hard. If you are going to, at least make sure you have the new weapons from alien hunters, as well as having an AWC ready after so that your soldiers can heal

I think naming the facility AI Julian was intentional. After the maker of the original XCOM

Anyone with the low end PC's who had the performance issues on day 1 played the game since? I haven't touched it since the end of February, because of how painful it was playing it with FPS no more than around 20-25. Have they fixed this issue since?

Generally speaking, performance has gotten better after each patch. Only way to know for certain is to try it for a bit and see how much better it is for you.

Shen DLC seems okay, new class, special mission, more customization stuff. Pretty much standard for a DLC thus far.

I have a PC I haven't upgraded in years but XCOM 2 runs pretty smoothly at lowest graphics settings now. If you're still having troubles search for performance tweaks (there's some settings in the ini files that are not changable in-game) and MAKE SURE NONE OF YOUR MODS CONFLICT. A mod overriding another mod will slow the geoscape and tactical game to a crawl.

There's also supposed to be an alien pack coming out soon, and I've heard there's some returning enemies from XCOM 1 in it, so that will spice up the difficulty a bit.

Not a big fan of that last DLC, new class is underwhelming and weaker than your other dudes, the mission is cool from a lore point of view but I'd probably disable it in a real run
aliens rulers was a lot better imo
Be nice, buy wards and don't feed double buff.

changing shadow from "all" to "directional" or "static" only will give you a huge FPS increase

the thing that eats into FPS the most in this game is shadow effect and fire

oh and if you have a xbox controller plugged in it also eats into the fps somehow from my experience -- this game's optimization is all over the fucking place

Hey guys, just wanted to pop in and ask whether the DLCs are worth buying? They got pretty bad reviews on steam, except for Shen's one. People overly sensitive and butthurt or are they really a waste of money?

One of the packs is a cosmetic one. I am surprised why people are butthurt over that one given that Firaxis said from the beginning that the first pack would be cosmetic.

Haven't played enough of Alien Hunters yet, but so far so good

The unique mission in Shen's Last Gift is awesome. That alone makes that DLC worth it imo

Alien Hunters is worth it since it adds a whole new mechanic to the mid-game
Shen, its an extra class that doesn't add that much to the game and 1 mission. You can get it if you want but you won't miss out on anything.
Anarchy's Children is just a bunch of character customization stuff. Most of em are ugly imo and you can find tons of customization for free in the workshop anyway.

The reinforcement pack is all 3 combined. if you plan to get Alien Hunters and Shen you might aswell get this instead and get Anarchy's Children for almost nothing.

So I fired up a legendary campaign for the first time in about six months and added all of the DLC. Is it me, or is the game easier now? It seems like they really toned down the difficulty of the gatecrasher mission (less pods?). Also, the addition of the new alien hunter weapons makes the early game a helluva lot easier. I stuck the axe thing and the boltcaster on my ranger, and he's just murdering fools. And remember the horrible experience of popping a faceless on the first retaliation mission before all of the other aliens are dead? No problem! Just nail him with the freeze grenade and you have like 2 turns to do whatever the hell you want. It also seems like they changed the way that cover works since I last played. You get bonuses to aim depending upon your angle of attack, which really is a big buff for the player because you're generally doing something wrong if the enemy ever gets to fire a shot off at you.

Alien hunter items are really strong for sure, but there are enough borderline op things that I don't really think they affect balance that much. IMO, a lot of the game is balanced around knowledge, so once you know how to approach certain situations (eg. Faceless), there's not really much of a challenge.

The good angle bonus existed in the base game. I think there are even preview videos that specifically point out that feature, since it makes the game more intuitive for new players ("why isn't this a flank" is a pretty common complaint among the uninitiated, after all). It's a buff for the player since the aliens can't get the good angle bonus. However, it's really not that big of a buff. I mean, if you really want to kill the aliens turn 1 (and you should, considering this has been a staple strategy in EU/EW/LW), you can just grenade them out of cover and whatnot.

Gatecrasher is the same I think. Still 3 pods. 1 with troopers, 1 with 2 troopers and an officer and finally 1 with a sectoid and a trooper right?
The freeze grenade is huge especially later on. Hardest parts of legendary havnt changed though imo, like the insane research and construction times. Also the timed missions where you have just 8 turns to complete them are still really challenging.

I hope that they're getting a sweatheart deal with ubi for this. They were talking about making their own game and I assumed that they got a decent payday for their xcom 2 packs. But shit if i'm complaining about getting long war 2 baby!

2k is likely giving them a deal, considering how close firaxis and LWS have been working on the Long War mods for XCOM 2. I'm happy to see them take a shot at LW2 because I've been waiting for someone to make a mod in a similar vein to what LW was for EU/EW, and it never really materialized. I do wonder if they're still working on their own game, though, or if that's fallen through at this point. Hopefully not!

I find it very likely that Pavonis Interactive/LWS has some kind of deal with 2K/Firaxis, given that they get lots of promotion on the official XCOM social media pages and that they were to make launch mods for the game.

Since we don't know much about Terra Invicta (their own grand strategy game) beyond the high-concept, I think it is safe to assume that they are still working on it. Because it is so early on lots of things can change

I'm sure they are still working on it. I imagine they are getting paid for taking even more time off on creating their game to develop Long War 2. Plus the publicity is nice for when they finally do get to go back to creating their own game.

Remember, the Long War devs said that weren't going to do a Long War for Xcom 2 or rather they weren't planning on doing it. So, they are getting paid to do this.

Its also going to be free. I've been seeing people say whether or not it'll be paid DLC/etc, but they have said its going to be free. While I'm happy about that, I wouldn't mind paying for it because they deserve it.

I wouldn't mind paying for it through a kickstarter/profit share dlc. Got a good 300 extra hours out of the original xcom from the first lw for free.
