That Mimic nerf is not enough, item is still OP. It needs to be a consumable that you need making new ones as you use them.

Has the game been patched up for performance issues? Was waiting to buy when things got fixed.

Yeah. A few setups still have weird problems, but it works really well for me.

I do recommend a few mods that don't effect gameplay:

- Gotcha (Flank Preview)
- Evac All
- Overwatch All
- Stop Wasting My Time
- Free Camera Rotation
- One of the Health Display changers (I use "Show Health Values")
- Quiet Bradford

Seems like a lot of mods, but they really make the UI a lot better. I actually did a complete run-through without mods, and it was fine. These will just remove a few annoyances + save time in a few places. (The Retaliation missions is where Bradford gets annoying after the second time. )

148 hours so far. Need to finish up my current Legendary Campaign when I get a chance. I'm not one for Ironman runs, though. I look forward to whatever content DLC they put out. There's still a lot more they can do with the game. It's a great platfrom from which to build.

Picked this up on sale. Fun game, but suffers from the same things as the predecessor.

Beginning is too hard, end is way too easy (enemies should have more armor/hp and be a bit more numerous in the final missions).

It's also surprisingly laggy even after some patches.

Yeah, but you can always add more late game enemy variants with mods. Like Hive Queen, Sectoid Commander, Muton Centurion, etc or change the dark events.

Do you have any suggestion for dark event mods? This is something that I would like to try.

I've been meaning to pick this up recently now that I have a little more time on my hands

but so many of the recent steam reviews are saying that the game is massively buggy and almost unplayable at the moment. How true is this? Is it worth waiting on the buy?

It is buggy, but none of the bugs I saw break the game. (Other people have had trouble with the very last mission, for example.) Might not want to play ironman at the moment, but you can definitely play and enjoy the experience.

Not true for the most part. The so called bugs are mostly people complaining about game mechanichs they do not understand. There are some bugs, but not gamebreaking.

Performance in the other hand...

I actually haven't tried most of the late game mods yet since I've been playing other games and when I did play Xcom redoing the early/mid game because I want to add/remove something. The biggest map pack seems to be Realities'

He made a DE pack with a lot of very tough events like Sectopod pods and then made a more casual DE pack. This is the combo of both.

I just bought this a couple days ago and beat it in a few days. I didn't encounter any serious bugs. The last level has MASSIVE slowdown for some reason but other than that it ran fine on my 5/6 year old PC. They patched out a lot of the bugs; there are a few graphical bugs but nothing major.

If you can find it on sale somewhere it's an excellent buy.

Started playing again, got the mod that adds more mission varieties. See the Rescue VIP with the added qualifier that resistance members are distracting Advent. Get into the mission see there is no timer and think "well that's lame" it's just the same mission type but easier because the timer activates later. Fight near the VIP's cell accidently "rescue" VIP by creating a hole for line of sight, but not enough for VIP to escape while fighting a pod a mission timer to evac now starting. Can't kill the Commander, and another pod is dropping in so I think about just escaping. Then I'm confused as I don't see the evac point and can't call sky ranger either. I get even more confused noticing I tabbed to an entire new 4 man squad of rookies. The rookies are the resistance members which would very helpful if they weren't so far away. So now I have to evac two squads and then realize reinforcements are gonna come every turn. The timer is also not how much time you have to evac, it's the amount of turns before you can evac with Firebrand. So I know I'm screwed, enemies are adding up, I can't get to the commanders who are behind high cover as I only have squadie and rookie units. On enemy turn they kill one of my squadies which triggers a rookie to panic and throw a grenade at my two other rookies hurting them and destroying their cover. A captain kills one of the other rookies and another surviving captain inures another guy with more reinforcements coming.

So I'll have to redo that mission. The early VIP activation screwed me since I don't think reinforcements come until VIP activates. Still this is a fun mission type, sort of a mix between VIP extract and base defense. Having 4 extra squadies early on will be a big boost though, but I'm playing on legendary bronzeman with extra mid game and late game threats so I'm sure it will still be difficult.

I finally beat this for the fist time, and I've gotta say the last part of the last mission was much more enjoyable than EU. Both in terms of the content of the fight, but also that the writing seems vastly improved (if similar). EU's ending just left me confused in the "You're just not making sense" way, whereas XCOM2 at least felt like the writers were keeping things deliberately vague.

Although the ethereal's dialogue through the final mission just made me annoyed from the perspective of "If you would share info on your supposedly great and noble purpose, I might stop murdering you." But since you aren't it just comes off as desperate deflection attempts.
