what does assigning do?
guard is clear, he goes to partol, but what does for example assigning to food do? And can i make my village produce stuff or do they just exist and eat my food and take my electicity ;D
i still enjoy the game btw, but bethesda had the experience and money to do something epic, which this isnt.

Well, armor vendors etc have to be manned (same for your food production). I think a single person can only do like 5-10 crops, the rest he won't touch.
And they produce stuff, yes. Scrap. Which you can use to kit out your weapons, and armor. And you can build vendors, too - if you have the right perks.
And hell yes, i enjoy it alot. It might not be epic, fair enough. Neither was any Bethesda game since Morrowind (imo). But it's the base for something amazing (mods, eventually). It never really was the base game that rustled my jimmies. Same with KSP btw, base game is decent, but the mods make it worthy of my approvement.

After 10 hours of gameplay...
This game is NOT a Fallout game. This is The Sims: Ultimate Wasteland Edition(with stupid UI and bugs) storyline is sooo bad.
Im so disappointed

This game is NOT a Fallout game.
I think this is the most widespread problem with this game. It actually IS a fallout game. It is NOT what people wished it would be - a Fallout NV-2. I really think half the people commenting on how much this is not a fallout game didn't actually play Fallout 3 (unmodded) or have some form of wishful thinking when they remember it.
I played through Fallout 3 and Fallout NV in the last 6 weeks prior to launch, and god is unmodded Fallout 3 awful. Maybe not awful, but far, FAR away from what people say it was.
The new artdesign, well, you can like it, or you don't. I do like it, kinda. Would've preferred a grittier, darker style - doesn't mean that i think the new design is shit. It's, well, different.

It's a shame that "Fallout" doesn't refer to the first two games, which are what set the archetype.

I wish we could fast forward through the bitter disappointment stage in this thread and get to sharing builds etc. already.

I'm not bitterly disappointed, i enjoy the game a lot.

watching streams of this and I'm going to pass for now. I would be super hyped if obsidian got to write/produce a long dlc for this game (not counting on a sequel to NV).

I went into it knowing the game will only get better in the future. Kind of dumb that fans have to make bethesda games good, but in a way it's also kind of awesome...
Anyway, I'm liking it. UI is absolutely hideous, hopefully someone fixes that soon.
Anyone else really irked that this is all 200 years fater the fact? it should be like 30 years judging by the state of things...

Fallout 3 had the same problem. Parts of the world seem barely touched/looted/lived in despite it being 200 years.

Is there any way to scrap the non-totally-destroyed buildings in Sanctuary so you can build the whole place again? And which of the options works as a defensive wall that you could build around a whole settlement? None of the junk wall thingies seemed to snap, so it would be tedious as hell to try manually make it out of those.

is there a way to angle camera views while placing items? i can't seem to flush cabinets to walls when placing them lol

Seems to me the only way is to move your character around. You can turn items with LMB RMB and some things like walls, floors and roofs seem to snap at corners if the game decides it makes sense, but I couldn't get it to do that with anything you'd consider an outer defensive wall to a settlement. I wanted to wall my shit in and have the gate guarded by turrets and towers, but seems to be a huge amount of work to get the outer walling done if it doesn't snap
oh and this tip picked up from reddit: when you craft items, it will take materials from junk items you have, breaks it down for the raw material and uses it. BUT it does not give you any other materials you should get from the item. Like a golden watch could give you (I actually don't know what for real) gold and spring, if you use it on an item that requires gold, it wastes the spring.
What you have to do is manually take your junk items, throw them on the ground and go into the build form and scrap all of those items manually to get all ingredients....yea. Clunky as fuck. Whoever thought that was a good idea.

ok, that's pretty retarded. lol thanks for the PSA, just returned to town and threw everything that is more than 1 raw material to scrap manually

Their game are for tools. The most hilarious tool is the guy above that mentions name Fallout but ignores F1 and F2 which are the games that set the lore and the world. Fo3 and Fo4 are like hilariously bad fan made stories.

I'm still waiting for the day someone does a follow up on Fallout: Tactics. I love that game to bits.

I also liked it but hardcore Fallout fans would kill us both for admitting it :D Although after Fo3 , Fallout: Tactics is no longer the biggest offender.
