It still got quite a good score (87%) but the author mentions the same things as I noticed by watching some streams: it's basically a conversion of Skyrim to the Fallout universe. Gameplay wise almost nothing has changed. The author also (as always with Bethesda) critically mentions the horrible menus and controls on PC. And obviously it's not setting any new standards on story telling either. I will watch some more streams over the next few days but I think that I will wait till a christmas sale or even next year. Doesnt it have kind of the same linear progression through a couple of locations? Every game with a main story and a „finnish“ is obviously not totally open world. What normally is considered as open world: You can go to many, many places right from the start, even if they have nothing to do with the main story (Baldurs Gate, Elder Scrolls games, Gothic and the old and new Fallouts allow this). BG2 is open worldish because you get thrown into Atkathla and from there on only get the goal to gather money. Now you do as you please until you pay for your travel to the one big railroad section (Spellhold), after it opens up into a larger area were you can do tons of stuff that also isn’t necessary (Underdark) and then lets you roam totally free again. You can finnish the game easily whiteout having seen half the game ![]() Kotor and Dragon Age aren‘t nearly as open. Both would work whiteout you chosing which Planet/Area you will visit next (arguably they would work even better). You are clearly expected to visit just about any place in the game anyway.

Especially when u read a bit about it before playing through it. It's genuinely interesting. However, I don't know exactly how much nostalgia is involved in that statement.

I guess that means, if you like Bethesda games and Fallout 3/NV, 4 will be right up your alley

I'm sure they will find something else to complain about though.

Bethesda games bore me to death, don't like being in a world without a clear goal, don't like that there are many systems but each of them is very shallow. Besides, Bethesda games are broken at launch, need at least 1.5 years for the mods to kick in full gear.

It will be interesting how well it will run, i play skyrim with heavy graphics mod at 60 fps most of the time, this game should run the same considering my skyrim looks just as good with suboptimal mods and ENBs. And yeah, ifdf you dont like Bethesda games, then just skip it. There arent many companies that make these kind of games, so i rather want them to keep making their games and let Ubisoft and EA handle the other crowd

Honestly, Skyrim was a game for me that had a great initial offering but horrible aftertaste. I'm not buying another Bethseda game until they change their dry formula. Probably they mostly care about this thing. I am pretty sure for someone didn't play any bethesda title before, play skyrim for the first time when released, it would be a hell of a blast. They make money out of it. It is history to put enjoyable elements which surface more when you play more in current industry. Skyrim was enjoyable though when you consider Oblivion & F3 experience. I'll just wait here until the game matures, modes will gear up & prices will fall down.(Hope not rot)
