Chrono Trigger. 'nuff said.
Possibly, to me, the best game ever created.

This is pretty subjective but the thing i didn't like most is some of the skills we can choose. No game in 2015 should have skills like "plus skill level*10 endurance/damage/resistance" or any flat additions like that. Witcher 3 had this as well btw, flat damage or health increases via mutagens. They might be effective overall but not fun choices in my opinion. Stuff like increased explosion range, reload or movement speed, most skills in the luck and endurance tree are fine though

you always felt like you never progressed through the game, most of the skills were cool in theory, in practice you might as well never put a point into anything because you never felt a change in your game i agree "more damage" skills are kinda boring, but they give you a sense of progression, you are doing more damage, your numbers are higher, etc...

Skill tree for fallout 4 below + Show Spoiler + https://i.imgur.com/Ipbu9Zh.png I think damage and defense progression can be better achieved with items, weapon mods and trinkets(more item slots needed for this to work in fallout) There could be more skills like moving target that could increase your battle effectiveness but toughness/refractor/life giver or all weapon skills are straight up lazy. This was the same skill tree structure for skyrim as well.

The thing is, you could wait till the last piece of DLC is released to own the season pass but by the time GOTY version should be around and should be cheaper

I don't expect the game to be ground breaking but should still be fun as long as the fun elements are enchanted which I think it is looking that way

The new mechanics like weapon crafting and settlements are especially exciting for me since there is so much mod potential to expand on them if Bethesda lets modders tweak with them once modding support comes out. Bethesda's games are flawed compared to a lot of their peers nowadays, but they're still the #1 mediums for modding and customization that hopefully will continue with Fallout 4.

It's why I feel Mass Effect 2 is a much better game than the first one because a lot of the gameplay elements they removed/drastically altered were things that Bioware is historically bad at, so shifting focus toward other elements of the game rather than doing those things poorly creates a better game overall. I'm not going to criticize a developer for recognizing something they're bad at and designing the game accordingly. Recognizing your shortcomings as a developer and shifting game design around that is smart design. I found Mass Effect to be the most interesting of the series. What should have been done with ME2 was refine some mechanics of the original. I also don't agree that Bioware changed the series from ME to ME2/3 due to recognizing flaws in their design capabilities, but more a case of EA not being present during the development of ME and being present during the development of the following titles of that series and driving the series for more mass audience appeal.

My problem with the Fallout series isn't the inventory, upgrading, and customization systems: it's the combat. You can't do level based shit in a first person shooter. You can't tell me my perfectly aimed shot missed because my character's aim skill sucks. You can't tell me that my gun does less damage because I have less ranged skill. You also can't tell me that I can and will walk into areas with "overleveled" enemies that can kill me in 2-3 hits and whom have so much HP I cannot touch them. All of those things happened constantly in Fallout 3 and NV and made me quit both games after just a few hours. Fallout 4 looks like it's continuing this system and I hate it. Even the shitty combat in the Elder Scrolls series lets you outplay by dodging, blocking, and swinging such that you can kill things that overlevel you if you play it right. I'm not convinced you can in Fallout. Example: In NV, I ran afoul of Ceaser's Legion fairly early in the game. They sent a group out to hunt me. The leader of said group took every single bullet in my inventory to the head and still had ~30% health left and never stopped chasing me. I eventually got away because one of the settlements had guards that helped me out, but once I started exploring again, they showed up again. They were too high level for me to deal with no matter how well I played. I couldn't melee because they killed me in 3-4 shots, I could bob and weave and shoot them all day, but it did no damage because I wasn't a ranged focused character. Another example from NV: I went directly north from the starting area just out of curiosity. It's something that you can do in every Elder Scrolls game: say "fuck the story" and go where you want. I was immediately met by an irradiated scorpion who took every single bullet in my inventory to the face without so much as a scratch (given it was the starter weapon) and proceeded to 2 shot me once it got close. Apparently I wandered into a higher level area and couldn't do anything about it. You never have these problems in ME or Elder Scrolls games. The fact that it's ostensibly supposed to be a shooter makes it worse.
