Especially if 1 guy is close to the server and the other guy is half way round the world... will he simply lag and the other guy have a smooth game? Etc. They said this is a good thing as they don't want everyone to suffer because one guy has bad internet. Yes that is the good part. But my example is not about bad internet, it's about the distance between the server and the player. There is a reason blizzard games have regions... and blizzard games are not even full server-client. They said Korea is its own region while EU and USA are same region.
From what I read, they are using Steam to host games so everything will depend on quality of Valve's service.
How good does Dota 2 , TF2 and CS:GO work?

I've been seeing some streams, the game is quite interesting. There are nice decisions to be made, and you need some micro. Split vs artillery and air, and harass the goos.
|
all i've seen is a post from a CM in their official forums stating the game is $50.
they still have not posted a price on Steam yet and its 22 hours before launch.
it'll be hilarious if u need steam to play it, but you can't buy it on steam

bikerush is gonna do a 24h greygoo stream, it seems.

Whenever I open his stream he is either promoting buying the game over G2A or his stupidity of giving lessons for a game that is not out yet LOL.
Even as only streamer of GG he has around 100 viewers.
As soon as any SC2 streamer decides to try the game, nobody will watch him.

I definitely liked the C&C series and SW: Empire at War was pretty good too (though definitely a highly underdeveloped idea).
Sure, I'll keep an eye out for this game.

I hate RTS games like this where you have like 1 base that everything extends from and the units are non micro turrets while they are on move command.
|
Only Humans have one base. And only some units fire while moving.

You shouldn't compare the speed of a Grey Goo unit with the speed of a Starcraft 2 unit because they will never interact with each other. What's slow for SC2 is about average for Grey Goo because the game is intentionally designed to be slower-paced than SC2. The Drover is fast by Grey Goo standards but slow by SC2 standards, but only the former matters because it's a Grey Goo unit and not an SC2 unit.
Also, the developers have stated multiple times that esports won't be their first priority. Esports doesn't have to be everything. Games don't have to be hard to be good. Games that are easy aren't necessarily bad. And please, stop conflating skill floor with skill ceiling. Starcraft 2 and DotA 2 both have nigh-unreachable skill ceilings, but the latter has a much lower skill floor, which allows for a much, much larger casual playerbase. Grey Goo doesn't have as high a skill ceiling as those games, but that isn't necessarilly a bad thing. Not everyone is as competitive as your average TL.net poster. Heck, I'm casual by TL.net standards but I'm the most competitive (in video games) among my real-life friends.
If you want a high skill floor, high skill ceiling game, play SC2. If you like a lower skill floor and a lower (but still unreachable by normal humans) skill ceiling, play DotA 2 or Grey Goo. We "casuals" have the right to play video games, too.

Interested to see what it turns out like. Anyone streaming it atm?

BikeRush is the best player streaming like now, though he's a bit... undignified.
I will not be streaming myself, but will be posting YouTube videos. I will start with a Let's Play of the campaign.

So today is the day.
Will be buying it, even if it is just to support petroglyph, cause at the end of the day it's a legit try at a classic rts game and we need more of those.
|
Will get that game as well, hope it has a better start than Planetary annihilation.
|
I am waiting for Steam sale but will try the demo if available.

I dont care if it is a slow- or fast-paced game. sc2 is too fast-paced without any big intensity in it (too fast-paced ist the reason here with sc2 design). I prefer intensity with only soft counter units (the opposite of sc2).
edit: speed & efficiency and too fast-paced might look intense and badass at first glance, but utterly boring after one year.

Watched it for a few minutes, doesn't look like it is for me to be honest. I like more fast paced, it does look like it would be fun, but a more casual type of fun. I understand that is what this game is aiming for but still I hope it can move a little faster than that.

I will probably get it to have some more rts to play, looks interesting to say the least.

At the moment anyone that streams or you can see in VODs is basically Bronze level sc2 player with few being up to Platinum (including this Bikerush guy).
While the units don't move as fast as in sc2 the game has potential to be multitask and micro intensive in good hands and with proper builds.
The game is like playing with weaker Archon mode in sc2, like you got half a player to do macro for you. The UI enhancements let you macro at half APM of what sc2 needs so you can focus more on micro and multitasking. And even by watching streams of bad players I noticed lot of micro interactions that can be further improved, especially vs Goo.
Also nobody that played Humans did anything close to what Humans are capable: Teleporting units, and turrets. Humans can get their power conduit to important parts of the map and teleport their cannons around to protect their base. It is all APM intensive. I seen everyone fiddle around with human bases and make huge mistakes. Top Human players will be amazing I think, probably even OP.
