That is exactly why they are so boring.
Actually out of all the starters, only Blaziken is considered OP (cough speed boost cough) and banned from OU by smogon.
There are other starters that are okay like Swampert, Infernape, Charizard (only mega-evolved ones), etc but none of them come even close to Blaziken (which also got a completely unnecessary mega-evolution for some reason).
speed boost blaziken is from dream world i believe, cant actually get him as a starter. i really think swampert is the best starter if you're playing the games and not competitively*. he has great typing (one quadraple weakness? just get something to roast grass types), great movepool and really good stats.
*coming from a guy who used to play gen5 UU a lot and gave a shot to gen6 ou and uu
