Honestly, when I was raiding, I kind of expected my guild to get Heroic because Heroic was pretty easy. I expected progress on Mythic, but for it to be very slow and was fine with that.

Recruitment is a problem, but it's solved by having one or two people actively working on it. 90% of all applications you'll get are complete trash, but turnover tends to be low so you only need 1-2 new people a year anyway.


I saw very high turnover in every guild that i joined in WOD, that's mostly guilds halfway into heroic to reaching mythic progress.

I'm in a guild that killed Normal Archimonde for the first time this week. Our turnover is really low.

We're basically talking about different things. You're still talking about progression guilds, albeit ones that aren't as serious as top guilds. I'm talking about guilds that don't really care about progression, they just like raiding and however far they get is however far they get.

The difference in mindset is fairly important.


Sure, if you're in a friends and family guild not going for progress at all then it doesn't really matter to anyone. Those guilds can also just sit casually at 8-40 players.

I remember the ignorance I treated you with after I coined you on our second or third Oregorger kill. I was an ignorant at the time, playing Demo because it was fun and competitive. You stood in my bank, waiting patiently for your time to shine. Fast forward some months, HFC drops and so did Demo's damage. Back to Destruction, the Darmac trinket was just not good enough. At that point I remembered you. My trusty GSR. No socket, not warforged, just plain ilvl 700.

Lets enjoy these last few months together, good friend. Before 6.2.3 hits and you can't be upgraded. Let us show Affliction how good Destro burst is when you proc 3 times in a row under bloodlust.

Screw class trinket. Flat int and a mad crit proc. Best trinket I've ever had!

It was sad to realize i would likely be losing my [Beating Heart of the Mountain] if HFC trinkets are upgradable but BRF ones are not. 10ilvls mean a lot.. but it has so good ring scaling, it might come out on top still at i700 with high ilvl rings.

As for gorefiend, about 70 wipes in and made it past the second feast. Nowhere close to a kill though. Maybe next raid.. maybe not

How's your boss% after each feast phase? When do you plan on using lust? How are your raid cds looking like?

Keep at it and it will soon be down! Soccy and Iskar are loot pinatas that should take under 80 wipes.

gorefiend progression looks like that, if people fuck up shit just snowballs cuz everyone is starting to play like shit if too much is going wrong. we just recleared for manno progression, didnt do bottom of the instance for a long time due to progression top floor - first time killing him after the nerf, everyone was pretty rusty on the mechanics so needed some pulls.

cd wise it depends, hunters use stamp at pull if u dont see a third feast so u use pull > f2 and thats how u do with every 5m cd, ring etc is pull and then feast and so are every 2 minute pulls, no clue what 3m cds users do, i am a hunter myself and got none of that shit so what do i know ~

We just got through second feast. A bunch of people died in feast 2 but we got 62% on first feast, 40% on second. Looks like 60/30/0 is doable. That's lusting in feast 1 at the moment ~ We only reached the first feast twice in the first ~35 wipes so it's looking a lot better now


If you sac in the first few seconds (death at ~7-10s, though you had to jump in pool 5 seconds before if you don't get the debuff), use legendary ring inside, shoot some skeletons and then keep the big add above 75% until the ring explosion goes off, you can get it super low. I've got it to ~17% before it came out, without that it's mostly at ~60% because you only have 1 global to take it below 70% before it goes invulnerable

Lusting on feast #2 might be a bit more efficient due to 5min cds coming back up (popped on pull > +2m till feast 1 > +1m feast > +2m till feast 2) and also helps with healer mana.

We used the legendary ring explosion on the boss, outside. The tank add is easy to handle, just have people that got in throw some dots or a nuke (there should be plenty of time). The dps inside will probably have cooldowns active since they were used on pull so 1 chimaera or chaos bolt or any other big nuke will take out almost a third of its hp. When it goes outside make sure the people are cleaving from the tank add, not the boss.

How are the skeletons and essences handled by your raid? How many locks, hunters, spriests (or any other ranged form of execute) do you have? Do people remember to use slows, stuns, grips on the adds (both inside and outside)?

Couple of mythic kills and suddenly we get a bunch of new trialists immediately, compared to nothing for a month or so. Hopefully some of them are worth a thing.

So do we, but the rings from the first 3 inside used on tank add. If you use the ring like this, you'll have 3 DPS inside with ring on a cooldown seperate from every other DPS. It does wastes some considerable damage on the boss, now that we are killing stuff cleaner it's probably not worth it i think. Originally i was excited by the ring explosions taking big add to 15% but it's not so reproducable and we're actually failing to meet enrage now so perhaps not so good

The tank add is easy to handle, just have people that got in throw some dots or a nuke (there should be plenty of time)

we have 1 spriest, 1 lock and 4 hunters. That's mostly fine, almost killed it (enrage) but only getting near third feast with will raid for a fraction of pulls because of a lot of random chaotic deaths. Adds are actually surprisingly fine until shit goes bad

^I can see this sounds overconfident having not killed the boss but a lot of stuff is going fairly well - just not everything :D I think i'l record next attempts

first reset on gorefiend over now. 5% with people dead and cooldowns not used on the pull - also we got 13/13H clear with boosting, 5/13M and then 110 pulls on gorefiend in 1 week, getting work done

but RIP social life

Hmm the tank add didn't give us any problems, we only had 1 random tank death in 200 pulls overall (brewmaster wasn't broken free fast enough and our DK overestimated himself instead of asking for an external or die by the sword taunt).

One of the bad things about the fight is how the adds sometimes decide to glitch instead of blowing up. They turn around, take a few steps then go back on the player. Other times they detonate 5 yards away, or they can take 1-2 seconds do that. Might be latency issues though.

We have 30 people signing for mythic ATM but some that can't attend and we have only 4-5 mainspec healers. Tried 4healing it when one healer had to leave and it didn't work at all

As a very casual player who's only seen gorefiend on normal, I think it's my favorite fight this expansion.

@akatama why do you use 5min CD's on pull and then 5min+hero in second feast, rather than getting the same 2x usage and 1x hero but doing them in feast 1 and 3?

That way you put one set of 5 min cd's in the feast and you put the hero in the execute phase

First, guaranteed procs from both trinket slots means you do insane damage and that doesn't really happen at any other point in the fight unless you get extremely lucky. Overall it's a very similar amount of damage if you could stay on boss all the time. However people lose dps time when they have to clear debuffs. Now add in pre-pots and you get a winning combination.

You could pop lust + second 5min usage during 3rd feast, but for some classes haste loses value in execute range.

Second, lust also helps with healing at that point since most major healing cooldowns take 3 mins to recharge.

The gap between feasts pretty much perfectly matches with 3 min cd's AFAIK (we just use the same ones every feast so far)

Thanks to you guys I am now planning to quit once we arrive at Gorefiend. Should be soon since council almost down last week. And we only do 1 mythic raid per week so Gorefiend should take forever.

Haha yeah~ Took us 3-6x as long as any previous mythic boss and we could choose a comp out of 30 people now that we didn't have many of before. The random elements and snowballing make it very difficult to get anywhere until a large majority of the raid is comfortable enough with the fight to adapt without stress. Have heard that Gorefiend is the hardest boss in the first 11 bosses, not sure how true it is but i believe it to some extent at least, given the difficulty of the first 5

I just cached the Xhul mythic offset helm piece so i now have 53.43% crit 24/7 without any procs up at i717. Softcap <3

The gear is gonna get much better, as much as 20% maybe notably more before having to face archimonde because of the ilvl upgrade patch and getting stuff from mythic
