Havnt played since early cata but back in the days plate armor was the most expensive to repair and cloth the least expensive. The difference was quite big. Warriors had to pay almost twice as much as mages, priests and warlocks to repair their gear. I remember a plate class complaining of a 2g repair at like level 40 and i was like what the fuck!  goes to show how much gold has inflated since then. It went up by like a factor of 5 in TBC (though i might be off on that) and now, i can get 100k more easily than i could get 5k in TBC, people just seem to have infinite money. Medallions are still selling for 7k and if you have 2 characters and an hour of time, you'll get ~2.65 of them a day (18.5k, easily 15k). The raw volume of players spending like 100k to jumpstart a rep that didn't actually do anything important to me was pretty surprising. The augment rune is nice, but it's a fraction of a % DPS gain - i see a few people fighting to buy it when they lack BoE gear which would help their DPS by way, way more. The shipyard ship is also nice, but it doesn't really help either. Most of the time my shipyard is idle waiting for any mission to come in that's worth actually sending TBC vs now for me was the difference between farming to make a crafted item and selling it for 1k vs farming to make a crafted item and selling it for 65k | ||

Regarding inflation, I think on can say that the value of 1 gold today equals the value of 1 silver in vanilla. Mabye a little less than 1 silver actually. | ||

I'm not surprised at originally people trying to get them - it's just, three weeks later and they're still worth 7k each. You can literally spend 20 minutes a day per character and get an average of 10k gold from it, it's ridiculous. I have not done it because i honestly have nothing left to buy (maybe that's the problem) but it's there Regarding inflation, I think on can say that the value of 1 gold today equals the value of 1 silver in vanilla. It's not so easy to earn.. but it seems to just fall into your wallet from stuff like those medallions | ||

And a medallion that gives you 1k conquest points/ honour points sells for 17k. | ||

I just got a coalfist gronnling though which should get me ~25k and i've got four of the fel pup things across 2 characters, giving me about 20k total from that too in the last ~4 weeks | ||

Now I used it up.  But tbh it is pretty funky. Reminds me of vanilla WoW when I found an Onyxia welpling pet and threw it away, not realizing I could have sold it. I was like "Wtf is this crap, it doesnt do anything. Just flys after you." Sadly the missions are pure RNG. With multiple characters since the start of WoD I havnt even seen the Gronnling one for example. That's probably because missions are now somewhat account bound rather than character bound and they added that mission+mount a month ago | ||

It went around reddit and the official forums not long ago. I've verified it myself on a half-dozen alts. Edit: As a minor correction you do need iLvl 675 followers, but you also need your character to be above iLvl 675. | ||
