it seems like half Blizzard's Starcraft team is old C&C guys. LotV is really taking a hard turn towards C&C "fast & fluid" style of RTS. I wonder if Blizzard's next RTS will be in a newly created C&C "near future" style universe.
I'll be happy if they just make any RTS game of any kind though. As noted by a previous poster Blizzard is making giant piles of cash in several other genres.

Quote from producer Tim Morten :
"It’s very rewarding for us to hear that there’s demand out there for more RTS content in the Warcraft universe so once we’re done with Void I think we’ll get together as a team and talk about what would inspire us to work on next. There’s no question, though, that we’ll consider Warcraft, StarCraft, or even new ideas. Anything is possible."
My thoughts :
FUCK YES ! Even though it aint no confirmation , I'm glad they have it on their minds , and they should focus on finishing the Sc2 trilogy and make sure it's a good game , then and only then , go for Warcraft 4 if they choose to.
Tim Morten is not funding a new RTS project so his comments don't mean much.
a decision to no longer make RTS games is above Tim Morten's pay grade. That decision will occur at least 2 management layers above him. Thus, what he says does not mean much in terms of guaranteeing another RTS game from Blizzard.
I want to know what the executive producer thinks about funding another RTS game.

Well my bad then ! XD
I was kinda happy to read it anyway

well, i hope you are right man... it'll be great to see Blizz make another AAA RTS game.

Which is then f2p :D
Today was in the news that they made with Passionstone 20 Million $ per month. Sounds for me like more then they ever made with HotS for example... and that has a larger team...
Why should they do ever again a AAA title.
|
Diablo 3 sold like 10 million copies in the last year if I am not mistaken so maybe there is still hope for non free to play Blizzard games
|
Well AAA doesnt mean that it's not F2P or not. I think HOTS is AAA and thats F2P.
But here's an interesting thing about Blizzard http://www.polygon.com/2014/9/23/6833953/blizzard-cancels-titan-next-gen-mmo-pc
"He explained that Hearthstone had helped the studio realize that they don't need to fit themselves into the box of only making products of a certain scale.
""Maybe we can be what we want to be and inspire groups around the company to experiment, get creative, think outside the box and take chances on things that just might thrill people," Metzen said. "Maybe they don't have to be these colossal, summer blockbuster-type products."
With the success to Hearthstone, maybe their future is more interesting multiplayer games, as opposed to the traditional huge big budget single player campaign with multiplayer as a 2nd thought like everything pre WoW.

I think a WC4 would need a "big budget" single player campaign. The bar's been set pretty high with SC2, and the campaign was one of WC3's best features, particularly for the casual player. Whether they can write a coherent story considering how far the Warcraft universe has moved since WC3 is a tougher question.
At this point though I'd be fine with a WC3.5 which gave the game a texture update, brought it on to new bnet and eliminated hackers and gave the community tools to manipulate the map rotation. SC2 was a thoroughly uninspiring game in my view and I don't have faith in Blizzard to be able to reproduce the magic that is WC3.

I think in terms of campaign for a potential wc4 the best course of action would be to completely ignore everything in WoW.

Just reinstalled WC3. Anyone on here down to play?

I don't believe for a second Blizzard can top WC3. That game is just magic.
Although, Heroes of the Storm is pretty fun, I'll give them that. But it doesn't have nearly as much depth as WC3, or Dota 2 or LoL. It's just not as dynamic. But it's a good game.
There were rumours of a WC3 HD remake around BlizzCon last year, but it never happened. It was sparked by the addition of the WC3:TFT logo to the BNet launcher. And it also does seem like there is a team doing SOMETHING pertaining to WC3, because when they reset the ladder, they also published a message on BNet 1.0 stating that "more things are coming from the WC3 team".
So... we'll see.

So we shouldn't make another new RTS ever again after SC2 in fear of not reproducing magic of what's come before? Just pack up our bags and just never try again?

I think Blizz might have to change their payment system. there are MANY players who bought the game in 2003/4 and have since been playing on Bnet consistently. So Blizz gets 80$ once and maintains the Bnet for 15+ years. it isnt really fair and Id be ready to pay more. but most people prob arent. how much costs does a person produce if they play wc3 on bnet for 10+ years?

I wonder how would they split the races. Will they go with orcs/humans etc or name them alliance and horde. Also would they go the sc2 way and not add more races or go for more than 4? What could be some possibilities for a 5th race besides the burning legion?
|
@lestyle: what i mean is: you paid something like 80$ or so for Wc3 and TFT when you bought it. then kept playing the game for endless hours uptil today on bnet. most players in Wc3 today have been there for many years; not sure how often Wc3 is still sold.
@jimmy raynor: I think keeping it at the four races is the best choice. one idea of mine would maybe be some kind of folk or gathering of underground creatures, like Elementals, wyrms, corrupted dwarfs.. that could be interesting. of course a new race should have as few overlaps with the other races as possible

Sure. They've proven themselves unable to repeat their success. And why not just enjoy that we had amazing games and keep it at that instead of risking ruining the memory and legacy? (*cough star wars)

Agreed, I grew up with the trilogy and haven't cared about the franchise since (cancellation of Adventures crushed me), as I never got into WoW. I can live without IV but I'll definitely see the movie.

(*cough star wars) Because games get old and people want new adventures. Especially because even if you think that they're not as good, they're still top tier RTSes. There's always enjoyable aspects, even if the game design/balance brings you back to the old game. I don't want SC2 to be the last RTS ever to exist.
And I don't think a bad sequel ruins the other games. The other games are still there exactly the way you played them.

New RTS are fine, I'd just prefer to see WC3 given a new coat of paint over a sequel I doubt will live up to my expectations and will be the final nail in the coffin of a game I very much love.
That said if WC4 was announced I'd be fairly hype and probably end up playing it.
