If you have ever been to an RPG/miniature convention before you have probably seen the Dwarven Forge stuff there. 3D dungeon pieces that were always really impressive looking but generally too expensive to get enough to make dungeons of any significant size. Well they are doing a kickstarter to start mass producing their pieces in a PVC type material rather than resin like they have in the past. As a result you can get a lot more pieces for a more affordable price. Pretty cool stuff if you play D&D or other miniature based games. Already a bunch of stretch goals unlocked, so if you get the minimum size to earn stretch goal rewards in the 2 set purchase you get the following stuff:
This product has been around and marketed/distributed at the advertised price point for a long time... why is there a kickstarter for it? I'm kinda frustrated with how kickstarter is being coopted to marketing purposes alone...

Because Kickstarter allows otherwise small orders (read: expensive orders) to become large scale orders (read: cheaper orders). Everyone wins.
The kickstarter total is up to $780,384 with 12 days left. A bunch of new stretch goal items added. The price point is significantly less than what the old resin sets sold for relative to how much stuff you get. The closest thing to the single kickstarter set is the basic "room set" in resin at $109. That included 4 swinging doors, 12 2x2 floors, 1 2x2 pit, 13 straight walls, 1 straight wall secret door, 10 corner walls.
I used to really like these when I was younger. Now, I greatly dislike them. Using these kind of terrain props in actual games only slows things down tremendously.
I feel the only way you would ever want a terrain set-up like this, is if you own a store and want to display some game using these tiles (like Mageknight or an RPG), or in an impulse purchase.
Using props for little things like statues, tables, barrels, etc. really can add value to your immersion, but walls/floors? Ugh. I strongly advise anyone from being tricked in thinking these would add to an RPG experience.

Yeah, we use it for introductory rounds during exhibitions/cons. Makes people more likely to stop & watch compared to 5 guys sitting around a table with just minis.
If this was released 6-7 years ago when I had cash to burn on something like this, or released a few years from now when I can get back into this stuff, I'd totally be in on this.
But right now I neither have the cash flow, nor the time to really take advantage of this.
But this is so fucking cool.
EDIT - I'd have taken 5 sets without blinking an eye. I tried making my own terrain for Warhammer in the past, and it is such a bitch to do, and did not come out as nicely as that stuff looks. This looks like it would be such an amazing investment if you're into miniature gaming.
There is another similar kickstarter going on still, Itar's Workshop
