But tonight especially, I found myself so fucking sad that the show had to end. I hope they see if Uncle Oris can revive Tudagub.

Poor guy flies up in a panic asking fight or flight, realizes they are too slow to run away, and after wounding two giants rushes over to heal his buddy as his dying action before he's run down. Ouch, Tudagub. RIP.

They didnt get another lightning bolt, Neal clarified this in the qna, also Yila betrayed them so shes a cunt.

Brave Tudagub, gone but not forgotten.

I realize this takes place within the framework of D&D, but I feel the campaign would be best off avoiding laissez-faire use of resurrection, especially unrestricted use by NPC 3rd parties. It somewhat cheapens the suspense of a plot when you know that short of a complete team wipe, any character can simply be brought back to life. While this is DnD, it's also clearly a viewing experience for the rest of us and few plots are improved when characters can be resurrected, it somewhat makes death/sacrifice meaningless.

I'm sympathetic towards someone who's made a character, such as a priest or necromancer and got it to a sufficiently high level and is able to perform such a feat, resurrection being an integral part of such a character, but I think it would be appropriate for it to come with fairly severe restrictions and costs. i.e. In JRR Tolkein's Lord of Rings Sauron, the big bad Dark lord himself, can only return to life if his ring is intact (in D&D terms this would be a Lich’s Phylactery) after a long period of time and hes a shadow of his former strength. It would of made for a very short story if every time Sauron had "died" he got back up at nigh full strength a week later. Take a look at the priest's spell Resurrection. It doesn't really place much restriction's on a character. The cost of material's probably isn't much of an issue to a high level priest and the duration of corpses time since death is ridiculous, measured in decades.

Really this is simply a wider warning from falling into the D&D universes trap of Linear Warriors, Quadratic Wizards. In other fantastical settings, there is often severe restrictions placed upon high level wizardry shenanigans to bring spellcasters down to a few levels. Warhammer is the best know fantasy setting in Britain, and in it casting high level spells is like playing with a nuclear reactor without an instruction manual. That spell you just cast to call down a giant flaming meteor? maybe it will work, maybe demons will materialize and eat your face drawn by the magic or maybe you'll turn your allies into jelly and ice cream. In D&D however, at least in the earlier editions, high level magic seems to have very few restrictions placed upon it and very little negative effects, to such an extent, it's less occult mysticism and more closely resembles actual godhood.

Basically I hope roleplay never has turns like this:

Turn 1

-Vincent longborn the warrior swings for XXX damage

-Haxxor the wizard stops time in the local area. Haxxor the wizzard opens up a portal to a dimension entirely made of gold. Haxxor summons an army of magical servants to magical mine out the gold. Haxxor teleports the gold into coffers of every major city in the material plane and petitions the mayors to raise there armies in return. Haxxor the wizards teleports the armies back to the battle location. Haxxor the wizard now restarts time with 10,000 troops behind him.

Turn 2

- Vincent Longborn the warrior swings for two attacks at XXX damage..... etc



I really have enjoyed Rollplay. I hope it continues as good as its been. But I also hope JP just re-rolls a new character.


TL:DR

Just be careful with what magic can do in this story. Resurrection is a bit like time travel in stories, it's very hard to do it compellingly from a narrative point of view.
