I'm convinced that Nintendo is pretty much completely stupid in certain aspects. Their response to the campaign against region locking, their WiiU advertising campaign (or lack thereof), actively taking down YouTube let's plays, and this debacle, it says Stupid with a capital 'S'.

A smart company would enjoy the benefit of free advertising for the franchise.

A smarter company would post up at EVO themselves: set up their own stream, set up demo booths for the next Smash Bros, host a Q&A panel, reveal new characters.

Sigh.

Don't worry, there are a lot better games from a spectator point of view than Melee. I recommend watching a lot of the other games purely because you never know what will become Super Hype.

Really idiotic decision by Nintendo by the way. With a new Smash game on their new console, you would think they'd embrace the publicity which is going to be 100% positive for them with absolutely no downside. They'd rather alienate their current and potential customers.

Utterly imbecilic. Also not at all a Smash fan but really quite angry over this. For me, its mostly the audacity of not mentioning this until theres <1week until EVO. Flights booked, tournaments arranged, stream schedules setup, people probably planning their weekend to watch what they want to watch, then fuck it, Nintendo decides that now is the time to bring up that they have a problem with it instead of 2+ months ago, or hell, as soon as they noticed their game was one of the candidates in the charity drive. Completely disrespectful.

This makes me 100% convinced that the new Smash game will be just as bad/worse than Brawl from a competitive standpoint.

Such a shame. Melee is a really deep and technical game, but Nintendo is insistent on staying as far away from that as possible apparently.
