More excited about this than with any Blizzard game in the last few years. This and the English version of Mystery Dungeon. Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky had a great plot.

If the 3DS becomes super popular you betcha there'll be emulators. It's not a matter of difficulty but a matter of popularity. There are (mostly for reviewing purposes) connectors which allows you to record 3DS footage. Just google 3DS capture card which should help you out. If you're serious about making pokemon X and Y, or any other 3DS game content on youtube I'd recommend that.

I hope the metagame will be less focused on weather than Black and White's, 'cause that sucked.

Obviously, emulating the 3D effect is kind of out of the question, but it's just cosmetic anyway. What makes it hard is that 1. It takes a lot of time and effort to map everything out and test it to get full emulation. 2. Requires a lot of power (though I certainly think a modern computer should be able to play 3DS games just fine if there was a well-written emu out) 3. Games need to be decrypted. 3DS roms are encrypted so they won't play, even if you had a proper emu (which you can't even really design as long as the games are encrypted). Dolphin already runs Wii games just fine (hell, you can even play Skyward Sword on it), there's no doubt in my mind that there will be at least one successful 3DS emulator... but yeah, expect it to take a few years.

I remember seeing this episode and thinking that Ash has become the next Pokemon bonjwa because he and his level 200 Pikachu are so gosu that they can damage (and knock out) ground types with electric attacks: Seriously though, it looked like Ash was on his way on become a Pokemon Master in that episode... of course he started sucking again and getting owned like usual as time went on.

True emulation takes a beastly computer to manage actually.... There must be a TON of speed tricks used in dolphin... Not saying that an emulator that can play commercial games is that far away, but just wanted to point out that actually properly emulating a system takes far more computing power than you'd expect. Just look at bsnes; it's the only truly accurate snes emulator and it takes a decent modern computer to run at full speed. It doesn't even run at full speed on this laptop.

That said, the Pokemon battles in a normal single player walkthrough don't really require any skill at all and it's far from a challenging experience in pretty much every Pokemon edition, will this change in X/Y? Most likely not. I recommend the mods Sacred Gold and Blaze Black 2 if you actually want to be tasked. Also the story is still in general garbage and targeted at kindergarten kids. Pacing too is problematic as random encounters and trainer encounters are very common and both take too long to load, display text and the battle animations take a while. Even when I was playing the mods I mentioned above with roughly 2 times the speed I still used Repel nonstop after some time just because of how bad this is. The competitive aspect, which is one of the few really positive things about Pokemon, is in general much better now. There are often lots of options to play against AI and see how far you get and/or online play vs other people.

I don't have the attention span to grind Pokemon like I did when I was a kid. The older games on emulators are still fun because I can press spacebar for 1000x speed, but this will have such dramatic animations that grinding will take even longer

The frequency you run into shit in the grass in B/W really turned me off from the game tbh.

I assume you couldn't play Black / White 2 on an emulator due to hardware restrictions?

The only reason it takes so much power to run is because emulators are made by enthusiasts and small "basement" teams, they are heavily unoptimised and actually terrible-terrible programs coding wise. A properly coded emulator would not take 20x the power of the machine its emulating. (E.g the Wii with SNES/NES/N64 games, you dont see it struggling, you see performance boosts and the Wii sitting around at iced temperatures.) So your right and wrong, emulators are illegal so you'll never see a superbly-coded one apart from resales on older machines like the PS3, Wii, 360 has on its stores. Thats the only reason they take so much power >.> POKEMANZ AWESOME! <3 was just playing pokemmo and saw this xD

I assume you couldn't play Black / White 2 on an emulator due to hardware restrictions? You can turn battle animations off in the options menu. Just blew everyone's mind.

I assume you couldn't play Black / White 2 on an emulator due to hardware restrictions? There is a working 3DS emulator. Not sure how fast you can run the game on it though. Emulators are illegal or at best grey areas though. Make sure you own the console and the game if you want to use one.

More and more it does seem the games will revolve about genetics/dna. So I also expect Pokemon like Deoxys to take part. Just think about it. The pokemon, starters aside revealed so far is an eeveelution who's DNA is unstable to begin with. And the Legendaries seem to be related with that as well. Should be interesting. ![]()
