styles make fights and thats why Marquez is such an uncomfortable opponent for Pacquiao. frankly Im surprised this hasnt happened yet since Marquez is such a great counter puncher and Pac swings wildly at times, even if has cleaned up his style alot over the last years. and the best counter puncher in the business today is Mayweather so its fairly easy to see why that fight hasnt happened, although Im sure Floyd is to blame for that as well. honestly though I dont think Floyd is, or was, particularly worried over fighting Pacquiao, it just became a huge ego thing about the ped-testing and how they would settle the financial aspects.
still Its a shame they never did fight because that would have put Floyd right up there as one of the best ever, now his legacy will always be questioned because he didnt even fight the best of his era. if the Floyd-Pac fight somehow does happennow the result will always be tarnished with excuses like "Floyd was in prison" or "Pac's jaw was shot by Marquez".
but yeah congrats to Marquez, but if you want things in context go watch Mayweathers total destruction of Marquez.

Manny got so greedy at the end there. He probably thought Marquez just wanted to turtle out the clock, so he threw a reckless left. Except Marquez saw that coming and countered with a beautiful and absolutely brutal right.
Gut wrenching to see Manny go down like that, but at the same time with the way that he fights it was only a matter of time before a counter puncher got him, and Marquez got him good. TBH I was kind of scared for Manny there. He just lunged into the full force of a boxer's right hand, and he didn't expect it one bit.

But really, still think he can beat Mayweather after Mayweather dominated Marquez in their fight? I hope Pac retires. That was a Pacquiao-Hatton like KO. Marquez looked like he was dead, i think most people understand how close marquez was to going down late in that round. pacquiao was unloading at will with huge left hands, his nose is likely broken lol he landed 46% of punches while marquez was at 21%. Props to marquez but that shit came out of nowhere lol If anything this is a blessing in disguise, mayweather will probably finally have the balls to take the fight. Sigh... I don't like explaining this everytime, but Bob Arum is the one stopping the fight from happening, not Mayweather. Anyway... about that gif: ![[image loading]](http://thebiglead.fantasysportsven.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/pacquiao-ko-marquez.gif)
His eyes look closed when he throws that shot. Closed eyes = prayer. Good punch, and well timed, but if you don't watch it in the whole way, you have no idea if it's actually going to connect. It's like taking your eyes off the ball. Could just be that they're swollen shut too.
Pacman should hang it up. I haven't watched this fight yet, but his last few fights have been lackluster, at best. While he beat Bradley, quite soundly, he used to knock inferior opponents like him out. Maybe it's all the other things he has going on with his life, but he is not the same fighter that he was a year and a half ago. He's 33, with 61 fights now; that's a LONG career, and he's never been the kind of fighter that avoids hits. Marquez and Floyd are defensive fighters: counter punchers. They'll have longer careers as a byproduct of their style. Manny gets his face beat in every time he steps in the ring and doesn't end it quickly. Over the last few fights, I think we've seen a steady decline. I think he's at the end of his run, but it was a good one. It's just a shame that he and Floyd never got it figured out to have that mega fight. I still think that 2009 Manny gives Floyd a better run for his money than any other boxer could have (though if I were a betting man, my money would still be on Floyd).
I'll have more thoughts tomorrow or something when I actually see the fight, but this is the first time I didn't think Manny was going to beat Marquez, and it was based on how he looked vs Bradley. Granted, from the comments I've read, and the gif above, it seems that he was winning early on and got caught, but that's why these are just preliminary thoughts.

I like Freddie Roach, but I feel like his reputation for being weak on defense is well earned. Manny left himself way too exposed against a counter puncher.

Concur with the other guy. Manny should hang em up. He had a legendary career and his style made me actually enjoy watching boxing unlike Floyd's. But there is a price to that and he is now paying it.

I dunno, even though Marquez was getting hit a lot prior to his counter, he was taking them pretty well. It's possible he was doing it to let Pacquiao get overconfident, and overextend himself, so Marquez could get in a well done counter like he did.

Aside from being physically knocked down that's how marquez looks every time somebody hits him.
Let's not blow Marquez's skills outta proportion here. He's a great counter puncher and all, but he was getting fucked up the two rounds before Manny went and expose himself in the dumbest of ways and paid for it. The punch was well timed, but it looks like such a textbook counter to someone who drops their hand so low stepping in, it honestly seems like anyone with enough balls could have went yolo with that shot and win the fight, and that's one thing Marquez has against most people who fought pacman after his Mexican Executioner stage. The dude is willing to hang in and throw shots.
I used to doubt Mayweather's advantage over Manny since he has troubles against people with better handspeed than he does, but after this fight it's clear. You won't win against a technician with bad defense.
