Get in a war with Austria and release Styria out of them that would make them lose votes for emperor.

edit: You could also try to vassalize Byzantium ASAP and feed Ottoman lands to them. This gets rid of one of the Great Powers really fast without you getting AE in Europe.

other than weakening the emporer directly, dragging him or electors who are not willing to vote for you into wars with each other can help.
other than that idk what advice to give.
usually i dont like to attack england super early because they take exploration 2nd, so you have more time to shut em down than castile/portugal if u want to go for the WC.
also, as always keep your eyes open for any PU possibilities, as they make life so much easier

So, if i tried again, my plan for the second run would be to cripple france again, then concentrate on england and portugal and then try to become emperor asap. not start with administrative tech and instead go for diplomatic or influential, as soon as i am emperor, take france and whenever i can not to anything, rampage a bit through africa, but leave marocco alone, the increased coring cost is not sustainable at the start. Any tricks how to acieve these things fast(er)?


You shouldn't integrate Aragon right away. Leave them around and feed them those North African provinces with increased coring costs.

I've got a question for you guys about what the best play in my situation would be.
It's the year 1512, I'm playing as Albania, I've eaten Bosnia, Serbia, half of Hungary and a couple provinces of both the Ottomans and Naples.
I'm currently in a war with Naples who called in Naxos as their only ally. The plan was to eat Naples and vassalize Naxos. I've got them both at 100%
I already tried to diplovassalize Naxos, because I wanted someone to feed the Ottomans and the Greek minors to. However, this failed because of some last minute bullshit modifiers, so I can't do that anymore. I do still have a Royal Marriage with them. Oh and Naxos already ate a bit of Greece, so they're at 4 provinces now.

Here comes the twist: Naxos is in a defensive war with the Ottomans right now. The Ottomans have 33k troops with 35k manpower and about another 30k troops in allies. My allies are Poland, Lithuania and Austria. All three of them have about 20-25k troops, but they all have no manpower and they're all involved with another war. I myself have 25k troops with 10k manpower.
I've got a shitload of claims on the Ottomans so I can take as much as I want if I get them to 100%. I also really want to get Naxos vassalized. However, I don't know whether I can win the war. I don't trust my allies to not be utter idiots and I can't take 70k troops right now.
If I just peace out Naples, the Ottomans will probably full annex Naxos, which is also something I don't want.
What do I do?

What are the military techs of Poland, Ottomans and Austria? If Ottomans have higher tech they'll destroy you. You could simply take Naples for now, and then take Ottomans later when you've recovered and are benefitting from the Italian lands you conquered. You can always beat Byzantium out of em.

I believe we're all tech 8 or 9, at least no tactics differences. The problem with just taking Naples is that in that case the Ottomans will take 4 more provinces and they're also already starting to blob in the east, so they're kinda snowballing. I also don't know how long my alliance with Austria will hold since we share a 3 province border and I have around 20 AE with them.
I could just invest in a shit ton of galleys and cheese the Ottomans, but I don't really feel like that either.

I guess I'll just take Naples for now.

in your position I wouldnt risk a war with the Ottomans. In the start of the game they tend to have stronger units than the europeans. So unless you can trap their armies in anatolia with boats you should just take naples.

You can just annex Naxos and release them as a vassal once you're at peace.

Okay, this is slowly getting ridiculous. Does the AI get a hidden bonus in combat? I am playing a really risky opening and i am paying it over and over again, and it starts to really get me riled up.

No tech bonus for anyone, no discipline, no nothing. Just same troops for everybody. No matter what happens, my side loses more people. Like, ridiculously more people. France attacking with a 4/4 generaly into a 1/4 general, more troops on my side in the battle, although coming in 2-3 days too late. 16 to 8k losses. We win the battle. i am attacking with 19k into 4k with river crossing, same generals, 2k to 2k losses. Enemy attacking into mountains with river crossing, but having 1 shock pip more, losing the battle, same losses. Like WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK? The very best thing i can do is win 2-3 very costly battles and then miraculusly stack whipee em because they run to the wrong fort. I know the number of battles is probably not representative, but there is just something i don't understand. We have more cav in those battles, if they are dropping in later, they still kill more the we do, i just don't understand. If i have 5% discipline, nothing changes, having more morale, same result, rolling 9s in the the shockphase, win the fight, yes, still losing more men.

I am really at the end of my wisdom, this should not happen.

Casualties were making me fucking irate during my Prussia campaign too. 2-3 more morale, 15% more discipline, better or equal general and units, no terrain penalties and I would still lose considerably more men in every battle, offensive or defensive. This continued up to the 1700s when my space marine armies were finally good enough to out-bullshit the AI and kill everything.

consolidate your units before any decisive battles

cav is generally not even useful unless you outnumber them so your cav is not being direct targeted by the frontline, its super expensive to reinforce (unless you are playing hordes which get free reinforce)

also keep in mind some countries and ideas give you +combat ability and make sure lucky nations is turned off.


I am currently playing as Japan again and managed to unite the country by 1500 but fuck me Ming is so ridiculously OP in this patch.

Over the course of 100 years I barely managed to annex all of Korea with the help of Manchu because Korea is always allied to Ming and Ming fields 100k troops.

in the last patches if you managed to beat ming a couple times their country would break down and rebels would pop everywhere but in my game Ming has 0 manpower and just runs around with 60000 mercs and 40000 normal troops and kills everything.

I could just play a not so fucking aggressive start, but if you want to get a world conquest, you cannot idle around. Last time i finally got a constellation where the war with france was relatively easy, 2 minutes later my king died, then my 0/0/0 king died 20 minutes later (yay? i try to kill of the bastard in battles for like a week) But now i am in a regency for 13 years, so, next try. This time the first war was so costly i almost considered restarting again, but then it somehow managed to work out. So what does the game? My ally burgundy goes to war with the released champagne and gets 60 AE with all of france and germany, fucking A. This war will probably make the burgundian inheritance fire and the balance of powers i am trying to build will collapse once again. It's soooo infuriating. I should really just play a different start, i am only bitching. It's like iam in the shikyo thread....

How about Siberia then? Takes two years to colonize each province out of Moskva once you start approaching the Pacific.

Yes, but at that point, it is kind of uninteresting how quickly you colonize those lands anyways. WC means conquering/vassalising all other countries, not owning all of the lands.

The only situation when the speed of colonizing is relevant is to prevent other people from colonizing those countries, because that would mean you would have to conquer it afterwards. In Siberia, you usually don't have that problem. Thus, the only thing faster colonization of those lands gives you is slightly more power slightly earlier. I don't exactly remember what the penalties for moving your capital are, though. If they are really miniscule, it might be worth it for a very slight gain. But i doubt it is really something that makes or breaks a run.

They'll be back in a few years is the worst part ^.^ But hopefully I improve relations some out of the coalition. Diplomatic (extra diplomat to improve relations, and more alliances) or Quantity (always strong) - what do you think?

Influence was considered but I need something that gives me power NOW, and diplomatic and quantity have the strongest immediate punch.
