If you release and play as Finland, starting as Sweden, you can't declare on your overlord (Sweden) because we (Finland and Sweden) have the same overlord (???Denmark???). I can't declare on Denmark because I need to declare war on my liege first (Sweden).

So is there nobody who I can give the finger until Sweden declares independence, while the PU can theoretically last until 1820?



Shouldn't it be, that if I declare independence, the whole chain of unions/vassals joins in against me? That would make sense, at least.


I think I figured it out. First I'll declare independence and win the independence war, then I'll release and play as Finland.

is it a standard MP rule that ROTW can't pick exploration unless westernized (I cannot fathom why this is the case, as western techgroup is an insane advantage even with 1520~ westernizations - but it seems to be pretty common on MP rulesets)?

Only MP game I've observed is ddrjake's current one - map seems pretty interesting, but I suspect a lot of that is due to the "15 starting basetax" requirement, leading to a lot of creative strategies you don't really see in standard all-major starts.

It seems to be a rule to prevent early westernatization which could make countries too strong when compared to their low tech neighbours. Still doesn't make much sense to me. Specially when people don't ban France, Ottos, etc.

Started as a 5-province Muscovy in 1375 (with extended timeline mod), and now I've roughly reached the furthest borders of Imperial Russia, 200 years early. I'm missing a few spots in Asia, but those are offset by my gains in Sweden and Romania.

My goal is to get the entire world by 2000.

I've finally gotten the Golden Horde down to its last legs (truce runs out in a few months and I can annex what's left in one go). The other hordes are fighting each other, so I just bit a little piece off each one where it's convenient. I've got a few doomstacks in my Alaskan colony of More Russia to fight off the Spanish DotF. My oldest ally with near maximum trust, Teutonic Order, has become the Defender of the Protestant Faith (I might have helped), so only the Catholics and the Sunnis are my real threats now. Can go nowhere but up.

yeah, it seems bizarre, considering that no ROTW start even starts with comparable basetax to any of the big players (besides Ming, Jaunpur is next with a pitiful 56)

In my current game i'm fighting France as Portugal but whatever I do France doesn't seem to get a river crossing penalty and YES im 1000% sure there is a river between my provinces when i'm baiting France... or am I missing something important?!

Does France have high-maneuver generals? In 1.8 they changed to that the attacker don't get river crossing penalties if they have a general with a higher maneuver than the defenders

How scared should I be of an English DotF if I'm Byzantium and attacking Italians? I'm around 1490 right now. Their navy's pretty shit and I'm more scared of Aragon + Venice pooling together their ships and crushing my victory fleet, but I feel like I can safely sit on my reclaimed Greek territory and take over Venetian or Genoan or Neapolitan trading posts. I kept my eyes to the east while France was DotF, but I feel like now that England has the mantle I can afford to be more ballsy on my western front.

If you're playing the normal 1444 start, England is notorious for being incompetent with their land forces (they land pretty small stacks that you can kill at will)

I agree about AI England's inept handling of its ground forces. It's worth knowing that the English navy might show up in spite of being very far out of supply range, per the confirmed AI Cheats thread. They say the AI isn't supposed to do this, and it doesn't always, but I've seen it happen in a few parts of the world. Maybe it's different since 1.9 but I doubt it.

I love it when England joins my enemies in a war. They will drop these random 10k stacks that you can wipe because they don't have a retreat path. Free warscore!

If the war takes long enough you can usually just admit defeat and get out at a cost of 10 prestige.

My best game by far yet, played it back in November or December, the save file is bugged though and the game crashes, didn't bother to load an older save file at the time (regretting it now...)

Started as Brandenburg, things went pretty well (thx PU), I was integrating Spain and waiting to be able to integrate Portugal, also have a marriage with Sweden, was waiting for a weak heir to generously take control of their country

IMPORTANT QUESTION!

Playing as France, i went to war with Aragon (conquest). I am winning easily, and DURING the war ruler of Castile dies. Which trigers event Succesion war France vs Aragon. Of course i click yes. NOW Question, what kind of peace i should be aiming for? I dont have PU on the list. Does it mean i cant form a union regardless of war result? I can cancel vassaldom of Castile for 100%, but that would be something different i think.

Nation A falls in a PU under Nation B (dynasty stuff). Then Nation C, who is usually a rival of Nation B, gets a popup that gives them the Chance to intervene and attack Nation B (and their PU Nation A) to claim the PU for themselves. Nation C counts as attacker and wargoal is to control the capital of Nation A. If Nation C doesn't manage to disband the PU or claim it for themselves, Nation A remains a PU under Nation B. My head hurts.
