If you release a vassal via the create subjects menu, can you still annex them later on? I just started a campaign to get the achievement Sweden Is Not Overpowered, but I also want to keep Gotland around as a vassal (because I can and because live there IRL right now) but I don't know if I can keep them around until I get that achievement.

Yes, released vassals work in exactly the same way as any other vassal does. (Except in lower tech groups where they might be protectorates which suck donkey balls, as i recently noticed, but that shouldn't be a problem in your case)

well if you're all about that local-patriotism, when you release a vassal, you can tick "play as released nation"

otherwise i dont see the point in wasting that diplo slot, they're same culture and religion as you, cant feed them sh*t

As I said, I wanted to keep them around because I could, but I still wanted to go after the Sweden isn't OP achievement. I thought that releasing them and annexing them could be a way to "fake-extend" the time Gotland has their core on their island. Needed to restart that run though because I made way to many mistakes during the first try.

Edit: I've seen AI Gotland have their capital on Bornholm while also having control of blekinge and having cores on Gotland and Närke

adm republics are pretty good. Autonomy goes away fast so you can make the big $$$ pretty easily.

Map of mp game I'm in showing players + vassals, year is 1475. I'm (savoy) much weaker than I appear as I have a 6 province milan, 4 province tuscany, and 2 province pope as vassals. I can't fucking integrate them because it will lead to civil war due to my 15 legitimacy king. The good thing is they have around ~25k troops combined which helps, the bad thing is my income blows.

France went quantity first idea and is terror with 95k+ manpower and 3-4x my army size, and they are allied w/ Burgundy. Currently they are threatening me over Provence

. I'm allied with Austria (HRE bros 4 lyfe) and Castile who is pissed about France taking a bunch of Aragon. Only major PVP wars 1st session were 2 wars involving Bohemia where they got partitioned and then a war where Sweden + Brandenburg decced Hansa who had taken Denmark + Pomerania. That war eventually escalated into Sweden + BB + PLC + Austria vs Hansa + Burgundy + France, where Hansa eventually lost giving up Denmark to Sweden and Pomerania to BB.

I'd be pretty pissed as Castile if France took the Aragonese Pyrenees provinces too. That's usually where you stop the damn French. Was gonna say you look pretty strong for 1475, but I guess the fact they're vassals kind of throws a wrench in that.

Yeah the new disaster system fucked me, civil war disaster starts to tick if you have a king with less than 50 legitimacy and your average LA for non-overseas provinces is >10%. My 2nd ruler had mega low legitimacy and conquering 2+ provinces would put me over the LA average even if I immediately reduce autonomy. If I integrate say, Tuscany, I'll get 4 high LA provinces which easily boosts me over 10% average LA. Only hope is for my king to die ASAP so I can integrate. Not being able to easily increase legitimacy is 1 of the biggest problems in EU4 imo. Even if I whore papal influence for legitimacy thats still only +10 for 60 influence and I'm getting ~5 a year.

I tried it out in SP and the huge rebel stacks that spawn from high tax provinces like liguria and piedmont were 2x the size of my current army of ~22k. So something like 40k+ or so rebels. Even though I could kill them with help from vassals and spamming mercs it was disasterous to my economy and manpower pool. Plus the civil war popup would alert France that I have one so thats the easiest war ever since no chance I could do anything. Maybe I can try to see if Austria will help me kill rebel stacks.

Got the die please die achievement from a 0-0-1 king, 0-0-1 regency, then my 4-5-4 heir died, regency ended (after like 13 years) and got replaced by 1-1-2 king.

I hate this game.

what speed are mp games played at normally? me and my casual buddy just play at speed 3 due to reliability issues normally.

Speed 3, speed 2 for big player wars or for brief periods of time if people request it, but usually speed 3. Netcode is garbage so we get 1-3 rehosts needed per session but can usually get around 40-50 years per ~4 hour session playing once a week.

You must have a really disciplined group to make this happen. I always wanted to get into MP but I think I suck too much at this game.

Maybe get England to fight France/Burgundy with you. Promise him those sweet, sweet Channel provinces. But he's probably lame and wants to stay on his island while playing the colonial game.

I wrote a related question regarding HRE, but is there any reliable way to grow an OPM (European, if specific. Probably Aachen or Navarre) into a great power, or will it always rely to some extent on luck and getting on the right side of other countries' wars?

As a smaller country you basically want to ally someone that doesn't like your target too much, declare war against them and let your big bad ally handle all the fighting. It's not exactly luck, you are not waiting for an opportunistic war, you are creating one.

You can't rely on moving a doomstack all around Siberia all the time. If you need to handle stuff on both fronts at the same time, you basically need to keep troops on both sides of the country.

Songhai ironman. Had horrible leader rolls so tech was a little behind after the initial 3 monarchs my best was a 3/3/4 I was very disappointed.

My house was filled with foul language when then happened. They need to clarify what "range" means, I had done the math before this attempt and even went as far to purchase a +3 colonial range adviser only to have this happen ended up costing me probably 300 gold so early in the game.
