“As with Shogun 2, we will continually improve the game’s compatibility, optimisation and integral features such as AI and gameplay balancing post-release, and plan to add to that with new control schemes and additional free formats on other operating systems,” Russell says. He also announces the plan for modding support, saying they hope that Rome 2 will follow Shogun 2 onto the Steam Workshop.

so it should be getting on the steam workshop sooner or later, in addition to other DLC like campaigns factions units and other stuff
great... I seriously hope it won't be modding like fucking Shogun 2 where it wasn't possible for modders to change the campaign map - for things like - say, adding a new region.
Yo Creative Assembly, there are reasons why there wasn't a single amazing mod for any of your games since Medieval 2, it's not that hard to find out why, you may want to look into it.
Nhnnnghh. Looks like I won't be able to pre-Order. Strapped for cash. Hopefully Greek states DLC will be available sooner than later. Was really looking forward to playing Sparta

You might have not tried the latest Darth Mod Empire then, which finally made this game playable.

Yeah but that didn't really change much except number values. I think he is talking about the amazing mods like Third Age: Total War for example.

in all honesty was medieval total war 1/2 actually any good? i never got into either of them, primarily because i couldn't invade scotland because of the damn pope refusing to excommunicate them -.-
But on the modding note, i don't really know but if the CA team intend to add in separate campaigns then it should be possible to mod the campaign map aye? dunno any more than that article though

That was expected to not be possible in R2 since this as been the case since Empire.

Medieval 1 was really good but it was what got me into the series so I may be biased. Medieval 2, I really liked it, it had flaws but since I just love the era I probably liked it even more than Rome 1.

Figured you'd want to play as Scotland, being Scottish.
Medieval 2 vanilla is an aesthetic treat but mechanical nightmare. If you bump up to the Kingdoms expansion, it's another 4 campaign maps of visual, historical, audio awesomeness. If you want to play the game with any sort of functionality, lol, I recommend downloading some mods instead. A.I.'s been tweaked to not be goodness-awful. Third Age seems to be the community's top pick. I plan to do a Hyrule: Total War campaign soon someday.

Thought they were day 1 DLC. Not free, but if you drop the extra buck on launch day, you should get them.

i didn't see an option to play as them, i got barely 6 hours in to the campaign as England before i just went meh, i had no idea what the hell i was supposed to be doing with merchants and stuff like that and france was being annoying so i just decided to go back to rome 1 and conquer gaul... again.
i'm biased though because i came into total war via rome, and while i enjoyed shogun and shogun 2 they didn't have the variety that rome did. i didn't play napoleon or empire, but medieval just lacked the heavy infantry style i liked from rome.
you have not played rome till you put a maxed out unit of Urbans/spartans/arcanii on one end of the bridge and ~3000 peasents on the other side, and watch your men not only win but barely lose a man

Oh. Well there's your problem. X-D You had to win a campaign as any of the initial 5 factions to open up 80% of the other ones, Scotland included. Medieval 2 also had heavy infantry, but it was negated by gunpowder units near late-game campaigns. I remember marching Muire as Ireland in the Britannia campaign.... Head to toe in solid steel.
Streaming later tonight if anyone wants to tune in or join a game with me. Game choice is up to you, but I won't be on for an hour as I have to eat some dinner.
man medieval 2... the last time i played that game i picked france. at one point my king found out he preferred men which led the pope to excommunicating me and crusading against tolouse. i never played it with mods (didn't know those things existed at that time) and i kinda liked it, but i think i had lower standards back then... never drew me in like rome did.

you would love Europa Barbarorum then. they have these spanish heavy infantry that are pretty much tanks on sandals. you can put 3 of them in a city guarding the chokes and 10.000 militia hoplites in the hands of the ai to try and take the city square. You will go down in the end, but these dudes die hard lol. The ai will lose like 9k soldiers before they break them.
