Honestly, though, it's a sheer time-waster to make people play, like, 50 matches to unlock everything and be on the same, level playing field as an opponent who's simply played more than you. I would love to see more player-customized options, but not at the direct expense of game balance.

My first battle the 5-6 units i had available got completely slaughtered. What's the point of that then?

I am really looking forward to this, it will be great for sure. I can´t remember a Total War episode that were "average" or even "bad" they sometimes have somethings that i persionally dont like (i am not a big fan of Shogun mainly because of the setting) but thats personal taste.

Can anyone tell me if it's somewhat easy to get into, or how it is? ![]() Don´t be afraid to start on a easy difficult. Usually the AI don´t attack you there. You will need time to learn the interface, the diplomatics just ui stuff. Also it can help to start with a "big" nation like Rome or Katargo, they are easier to play than the little ones. The series ussually has a very good tutorial with small fights and a smaller version of the global map, that helps too with step by step advices. The game gets better as longer you play.

Have you ever played Master of Orion 2 on hard difficult? Against that BroodWar feels like HelloKitty Online. ![]()

You're gonna have a whale of a time : D I'm the same on Shogun btw, I barely played that game at all, and I hope that Rome 2 is a little closer to the original rome in terms of some of the mechanics than Shogun 2

Initially i'd suggest picking a roman faction since they are generally the most forgiving army and have a hell of a lot of staying power. if the game follows the original romes "senate missions" then just following those should be fine for setting out initially. for actually fighting a battle in person (which you don't need to do btw) i'd suggest first playing custom battles to learn the various strengths of each unit and how you should fight with them. also it important to note understand what units your men are using, a cavalry unit with spears should be used differently than a cavalry unit with swords. overall try the romans since they are usually an easy faction to start with and learn your units. Also as a biased note - heavy infantry is awesome disregard light entirely when you can

Oda is the hardest I think. Literally horrifying to imagine how long it took to work that out!!!!! However, it's not a grand campaign so in my mind it doesn't count ![]()
