I'm afraid of potential non-TL randoms joining the group. Not everyone's Steam name is similar to their TL handle.

look i bring sewers , schools, walls, grand temples and even occasionally an awe inspiring colliseum, all alongside low taxes for all. i think that allows me some freedom in how i plunder my enemies.
but in truth i actually play as a good guy most of the time, and if i make an alliance with someone i will stick with it till destruction or betrayal (theirs i don't do that)

Joined. Preloading now, such a shame I have to be at work tomorrow.
Only played Shogun 2 so far in the Total War series and loved it, didn't really have a problem with the non-existent unit diversity but that's probably because I don't know any better. From what I'm reading most people that played the other games thought that was one of the worst things of S2 so I should be liking this one even better. Plus I just love the entire Roman setting. All in all, very hyped, can't wait to play tomorrow evening

It´s just historically accurate that there are no good guys around there. It´s not like today were nobel prize winners would never bomb som.. oh wait .
Jokes aside i personally have always more fun being the bad guy in games. In some ways there are cooler story lines and sometimes it feels more realistic to me.
Especially in games like Mass Effect were the "good" side is just hilariously stupid "well i am the only chance for the whole universe but sure i have time searching for random shit on random planets for random reasons".

When I am not specifically trying to beat the difficulty, I like to play realistically. My characters behave according to how their character traits develop. If they are cruel, I sack towns and murder the inhabitants, and kill prisoners. If they are good, I occupy peacefully and build beautiful structures to please everyone.
Similarly, if they ascend to the premiership of my faction, I like to take the faction in their 'direction'. If they are a sly underhanded dickhead, I might buy assassins and even send the sons of his which are lame off to die. If they are noble, I might lower the tax rate and declare peace with my enemies. It's all part of the fun .
In fact I wish that they could implement a grand idea of mine which I think would make Total War amazing. Hopefully they will do it in the future: have a complex algorithm that makes the 'narrator' voice appear and do a narrated cutscene every like, 50 years or something, chronicling the history of your faction. It would be very complicated and difficult to pull off but would be unbelievably impressive. Imagine a booming voice declaring:
'after the crucial battle of Granada, the borders of mighty Carthage grew and swelled across the Iberian peninsular. A great mission to bring the civilisation of Islam to the heathens was undertaken, as the new rulers erected impressive mosques and statues in the name of almighty God. However, the occupation of Spain was not taken lightly, and a savage rebellion in Zaragoza took thousands of lives before it was crushed. It is yet to be seen if this militaristic expansion will be rewarded or punished in time.
It would essentially involve a lot of synonyms being thrown into a random generator and then pieced together using a lot of 'when/if' clauses.

i'm fairly sure islam didn't exist ~200 BC, so there might be some slight issues with you campaign, but yeah a narrator would be awesome.
"the armies of Macedon fell upon the city states of Greece unrelentingly, Athens fell in the first year it's walls torn down by thundering siege engines, Corinth fell two years later, a victim of deception and intrigue as Macedonian spies threw open the gates to the invading army. Of the 14000 people living in Corinth, over 8000 were put to the sword that day. And finally the brutal warriors of Macedon turned their gaze upon the defiant city of Sparta whose people still stood unwavering against their foes, Yet sheer numbers looked ready to win the day, had it not been for the arrival of messengers bearing news of a Roman invasion from the north, Forced to quit the field the Macedonian army looks trapped between an approaching Roman force under the command of Aurelius Brutus advancing from the newly liberated Athens, and the merciless warriors of Sparta eager to avenge their fallen brothers,"
something like that?

No you're right . It would probably be impossible to do it with individual names but the rest is spot on! It would be so rewarding and fun.
