I think the History Channel using it is more of a stigma than anything :x And I really hope they take inspiration from mods like Europa Barbarorum and Roma Surrectum. Vanilla was fun but my god was it inaccurate haha

One thing I hope they change is to discourage fighting with enormous armies (i.e. making guerilla warfare more viable with better targets than just settlements) because one thing I hated about Shogun was that if you lost your deathstack you were pretty much fucked

Also, hopefully they finally invest in a good Ai programmer. I mean, the odds of that are small because, you know, its CA, but still.

Basically The idea is that you'll make fewer, but more important, decisions. You won't be spending all your time nudging a single unit of archers around, or adjusting endless tax rates. Battle objectives will also be more varied and interesting, and city invasions are expanded with multiple control points. Naval battles are also grander in scale, and offer richer tactics. A unit is no longer a single ship, but a number of ships. Because you're able to disembark on land now, you could potentially stage an assault on a city from multiple beach-heads. Some cities, like Carthage, even have entry points for ships to actually move inside them, which will allow you to use ship-mounted catapults on defending infantry behind their walls. The Total War team has almost doubled in size since Shogun 2, and the game's budget has increased by 40%, so this'll be epic in every sense: from those enormous battles, to the production values. Sega have yet to release any gameplay footage, or even a trailer, but when you see the demo in action that we saw running in real-time, you'll really understand just how insanely good the game looks. Also, supposedly there's going to be up to 200,000 troops on a battlefield and you will be able to zoom out into a tactical map-esque thing if you'd like.

I liked being able to individually micromanage all of my cities. It allowed me to specialize them and determine what exactly would be best for the empire. I also liked moving small, mobile armies around to clean up smaller brigands and routed enemy troops. The macro was already pretty simple, no need to dumb it down any more in my book. The new battle objectives sound fun, though. Crete usually started off rebel with only Cretan archers in the square, with a bunch of other units outside the city. You could take it with one general and one hoplite/hastati and it just seemed really gimmicky, so I'm glad that situations like that will be changed. On the other hand, by far the easiest way to capture Rome was to sneak in a spy and bum rush the square with a bunch of cavalry while sending infantry to hold off reinforcements. I hope that stays in ![]()
