They've been doing pre-order and retailer specific bonuses, like Civ 5, lately. I'm guessing Seleucids will be some sort of pre-order bonuses with the minor factions being the DLCs and maybe the retailer specific bonuses. That would be incredibly annoying. I hate that kind of shit. If DLC is more along the route of an expansion, it's cool. But if it is just stuff that has so obviously been cut from the original game to be sold as DLC later, it is incredibly annoying. And preorder/retailer boni just need to go. I don't understand how anyone can think that that is a smart idea. If you want to do a fair preorder bonus that still encourages people to preorder, make the game 5-10 bucks cheaper for preorders, or give them a free copy of rome 1/medieval/whatever. That is fair, rewards preorders since that is apparently something companies like, and does not screw over the rest who don't like to buy games blind. And i have no idea why retailer boni even are a thing, that whole concept is absurdly retarded.

Listening to it right now. Wish it were a little more focused on battle gameplay than single-player intrigue. Multiplayer podcast: link.

And i have no idea why retailer boni even are a thing, that whole concept is absurdly retarded. Someone who works at a major comic book company went into detail about preorders, and how much they benefit the creators of games/comics/etc. Basically they make their money by selling to retailers. They get paid when stores need more copies. Pre-orders means that a store is going to stock whatever they were ahead of time +they are going to buy enough to fill the pre-orders in addition to this. Basically it means more, guarenteed sales for the creators. Also when a store gets a lot of pre-orders they will generally think about increasing their initial order due to their perceived popularity of the incoming product. I dont want to go into too much more detail, but this sums it over, and in extremely over-simplified way. Although I do agree about the DLC. So tired of buying a game, and the moment i click purchase.. i realize that the rest of the game is not included... and I now need to spend another 50$ getting the rest of the game I just purchased. Really hate the DLC, ripoff the customer trend in gaming currently. What happened to making a whole game, and selling the whole game? instead of making a game, and then selling someone the rest of the game for whatever they please. because "well its technically fully functional without it" No. It isnt. You are charging me for the rest of the content that the game is incomplete without. so disgusting imo.

And yeah Simberto, I mean it seems that the games industry is just heading towards attempting to cut sensible customers out of the deal. The whole idea of preordering is extremely biased towards the game makers, in terms of benefit. It's a reaction, I think, to the growth of steam meta-scores, word-of-mouth review via facebook et al, and the mounting disregard customers have for review websites. It's a way to more efficiently monetize advertising, which is basically worthless once legit reviews appear. Now with the appearance of Aliens Colonial Marines we see the ultimate result, millions of people pay good money for a game that was not worth 5 pounds.

That said, if anyone knows, how often does CA apply balance patches to its games, especially the multiplayer portions?

Huh. So, we now have a vid for vs. Carthage and vs. "Germania." If they continue to showcase landmark battles, as well as other factions Rome fought against, perhaps we'll see a famous battle with the Greeks? Heck, maybe they'll hype up non-Roman conflicts too, though their focus seems to be on the intrigue of Roman politics.

The game IS called..Rome tho, so you have to expect them to mainly hype any/everything regarding actual Roman conflicts

But there were many conflicts throughout the world at the time that were non-Roman. + Show Spoiler + I'm just mindlessly predicting; don't mind me. ![]()

EGYPT So here are all the factions: Rome, Carthage, Macedon, Iceni, Arverni, Suebi, Parthia, Egypt. Also, there's a funny looking logo at the bottom of the list XD speculation time http://wiki.totalwar.com/w/Factions

That logo isn't showing for me. From what I can see, it looks like it may be a wiki redirect.

With that many reported, however, I suppose it's possible they may include individually unique rebel factions too, lol. Edit: Lol. I love reading comments. X-D Jeeves: 100 factions, eh? Enjoy waiting about an hour when you press end turn.

As someone else mentioned, though, it can't take a whole lot of calculation to figure out what a faction with only a single province should do... I suspect most of the minor factions are effectively going to be 'rebels' but with a little more flavor than the original - single province entities. Probably there will be a dozen or so 'larger' unplayable factions akin to the original with several provinces,(like Scythia, Dacia, Numidia). Along with the playable factions, these will tend to eat up the single province factions. From the faction wiki, it looks like Rome, Carthage, Egypt, Macedonia start a macroscopic number of provinces (3-7 lol). Averni, Parthia, Iceni, Suebi each start with one - I like the idea of building up an empire from a single province so I'm happy about this.

Probably like Shogun 2 yeah, where you start with a ton of clans that quickly get absorbed. And the first turns when they are all there are actually the fastest compared to when there are only like 10 remaining with some being huge. Also if they go that way, starting with 3 to 7 for some and other 1, I really like that asymetric balance and is one of the reason why I enjoy CK2 and EU3. However, I feel like they are selling dreams right now so I'd be wary.

I agree about this selling dreams thing (e.g. the amazing looking Carthage battle). Seems a little too good to be true (don't remember if they claimed it was part of regular gameplay, I'd find it more likely to be a one-off scenario with the elaborate land + naval shenanigans...).

117 factions 183 map regions Man, this is like a game of my dreams shaping before my eyes. I really really really hope that they don't fuck up AI so hard, that people can't repair it. This has got so much potential.

Their goals look really ambitious I'm really wary. I can't fight the feeling that some of it will just not make release or will be botched/simplified. But hey if the game is at least as good as Shogun 2 but in Rome era with more diversity, that's still very good enough for me to buy. Let's hope they at least make it moddable enough. (Oh and please fix sea battles, Shogun 2 sea battles were attrocious..., what a waste to make something so beautiful always auto-resolved... and sieges too, it sucked).
