There's a lot of history to the mannerism of fighting game players that dates back to the arcade days. Days where you had to wait in a long ass line just to get a chance to put your money in the machine to play the winning player on the cabinet. The atmosphere can get ruthless because you had to pay money, and have to wait in a long ass line just to play a quick game. It wasn't a really welcoming environment and to earn respect you had to earn it by beating the other guys ass in the game and send him back to the end of the line, then stay on the cabinet as long as possible. People played dirty with the "cheapest" tactics in the game to win. You know those hate messages you get online when people hate how you play for cheesing in SC? Well cheap play would also get people very "salty" as they call it thes days, and even start physical fights if you throw too much in SF2 back in the day lol. Elbows smashing into each other while you play in a dark danky arcade was the norm back in the day. Shit talking and other "macho" showboating behavior happens. If you lose you go back to the end of the line. You win, you stay and try to keep your spot against the snake line of players. Now it's a bit different with these days now that arcades are mostly dead around and the shit to console play. The scene got a huge boost with with the console release of SF4, online play era, and mass produced sticks you can use at home, but its arcade roots still show. A lot of organizers and top players were old school arcade players as well. And unlike the SC2 scene, a lot of the spectators in the crowd are actually participants in the tournament as well, and do go to local tournaments or get togethers as online play is often considered a joke because of lag & latency inputs. Even though it isn't the arcades anymore, the mannerism and atmosphere is still very similar. You still play side by side with your opponent and you have your peers behind you watching. There are money matches, shit talkers, groupies in the background cheering their friends or talking smack to get in your head etc.

He beat Mike Ross and Poongko to get to Top 8, win against Mike made no sense b/c Mike then beats Uryo (#1 Sakura) in Losers. Poongko screwed up in his match and let his mistakes pile up.
