The Ransei region A land of Pokémon and Warriors and the ties that bind them.
Conquer, all 17 kingdoms, and the legend of Ransei will be Reborn!
Become a Warlord... Link with Pokémon... And let the battle begin!
Pokémon Conquest
Due to the game being relatively new, I ask that anything that can spoil the plot/character development please be put in spoiler tags.
Note: Since I am currently playing the game, I don't know everything, so if you do have anything else to add either post on the forums or PM me. I will however be updating this thread as I get farther and farther into the game.

Synopsis
Pokémon Conquest is a strategy game set in the Ransei region. You play as a Warlord of the Primus Kingdom, one of the 17 Kingdoms in the Ransei region. You are charged with the task of battling against a wide variety of powerful opponents, including the mighty Nobunaga, whose goal is to destroy the Ransei region!

Pokémon Conquest is a spin off crossover between the Pokémon and Nobunaga's Ambition series. Featuring a 6 on 6 turn base strategy with various Pokémon from all 5 generations.

Well because most of the features are straight forward I'll just be adding some of the in-game mechanics that I didn't understand right away.

Warriors
Recruiting Warriors: After playing for a bit you're able to recruit warriors who will; be able to fight for you, and will be able to link with more pokemon. To recruit a warrior you must either: Beat them in 4 turns, beat them with a super effective move, or beat them with no allied pokemon taking any damage from their pokemon.

Recruiting Special Warriors: Some special warriors are unable to be recruited until an event or after beating the game. The special warriors are gold linked with their pokemon meaning they can get a perfect link with their pokemon.

I've been kind of desperate for good turn based strategy on my DS lately, I am not sure if I am THIS desperate. Pokemon has a lot more depth than people are normally willing to grant, but it's not like it's ever been particularly well balanced or innovative in gameplay.

From what I've seen so far it's pretty basic. I'll be going online vs my friend in a few days and I'm willing to record it, if it does actually happen so I can show a bit more GOOD footage of the games aspects. From what I've got from it so far, is it has some resource management, and it's reminiscent of something like the older final fantasy games when I was growing up. :D DS is kinda lacking for good TBS though so idk. I'm enjoying this regardless, I love pokemon and I enjoyed nobunaga's ambition when I played it and so far this crossover is quite enjoyable. The only downfall I've found [ and take this lightly because I'm only 3 hours in] is the AI is very easy, at least for me.

I've never played Nobunaga's Ambition, I've got Disgaea, FFTA2, and Fire Emblem as my DS TBS games.

I really don't think you can make a difficult but not impossible TBS AI without really restricting what people are allowed to do. Kiting, terrain manipulation, and any form of crowd control can all be abused to no end in a strategy game.

So how does this game incorporate Pokemon (if at all)? Does it use the same battle system or mechanics? Or is it basically Ambition with Pokemon characters thrown in?

I remember seeing this game from a Gamespot ad in my email and thinking "WTF is this?" And now, after doing a ton of research and seeing this thread, I'm like "WTF is this?"

LOL anyway, I kinda got the impression that this game was a stab at getting older players back into pokemon or into it for the first time. I'm glad that there are some more good games of this genre on the ds.

Try Devil Survivor Overclocked. It's a pretty cool trpg with like 60 different endings. Definitely worth the price, also incredibly hard and challenges the player to think instead of taking the typical route of gameplay.

Basically your warriors can carry 6 pokemon [who will represent the warrior on the battle field kind of like trainers -> pokemon] and you're controlling all 6 warriors in which are controlling their pokemon. Basically you're in control of upto 6 pokemon vs the oppositions up to 6 pokemon.

Pokemon have energy which delegate if thier attacks do full damage or anything less than that. Pokemon evolve and there are, warrior skills that are any pokemon can get based off of which warrior you link the pokemon to [linking is basically like catching the pokemon but this region doesn't use pokeballs.]

All in all its just a generic 6v6 TBS with each pokemon having a ranged or melee attack and then a secondary ability. example: your eevee will use quick attack as its attack which is a 1 square adjacent ability. Along with the secondary ability of celebrate which allows your eevee to move and attack again if it kills a pokemon with its attack.
Following this your hero or heroine will also have a warrior ability, in this case you will get the ability top speed which allows your pokemon to get move movement for 1 turn.

TL:DR in fights you control 6 warriors who can have 6 pokemon and only use 1 in the course of the battle.

Then there is the region itself where you manage your gold/pokemon/items and prevent your opposition from flanking and attacking your cities.

There are 17 cities in Ransei, and I'm currently holding 6 so I'm about 1/3 of the way done. [But apparently there is more after you beat the game so idk how much there is to actually do.]

I've been following this game's progress because I follow the pokemon scene (and I'll be getting Black 2 when it comes out)

As a general rule, I don't touch or watch anything with anime in it, and this doesn't look good enough to change that: even with pokemon in it

Depends on what you count as anime, there isn't really any movies, its more like a old JRPG when people talk with the emotions and ect. The scenes aren't really anything out of the norm from other pokemon games, such as in pokemon black where you start talking to n and it takes you to a video cut scene [not the in game ones] its basically the same thing.

Well I'd say you should get a 3DS But there really isn't anything amazing on there that makes it worth getting.

Also for DS, if you are looking for a couple of straight up turned based strategy games, try the Advance Wars series.

I have too many GBA games I enjoy to get a 3DS. I still have my fat DS.

Speaking of AW, I have it on my GBA and didn't particularly like it, which is why I avoided the sequels.

It's pretty much a dumbed down handheld TRPG for kids. Unfortunately for me, as I love both Nobunaga's Ambition and Pokemon, it looks like this game will get me addicted pretty quickly.

Well from my experience of playing competitive Pokemon, they're actually categorized into tiers to balance things out. And the gameplay is pretty deep and there can be a whole lot of metagaming going on with all the possible move combinations and stuff.

I have very, very fond memories of all that time I spent trying to master the art of mindgaming my opponents and outpredicting them.

The very art of building a competitive team was actually something fun. I would tweak a team to death until I finally deem it good enough to be "retired". (Which meant I wouldn't really modify the team anymore, and thus I deem it "tournament-ready")

Of course this was all on the NetBattle system, which meant I didn't have to go through the hassle of "raising" Pokemon.

I used to be high ranking UU on Shoddy, but haven't played much since they released the new client.

I just can't get/am not patient enough to figure out the RNG necessary to breed competitive EV'd pokes.
