If anyone needs a beta key, i still have 2 left.

How do I change my sensitivity ingame?

I had a 7-day beta a while ago and got a new 30-day beta 2 days ago which I haven't started yet. Coming from a Q/UT background I played exclusively Joust and I had a lot of fun with it. A matchmaking system and a ladder and I'd play the shit out of that game.

Shootmania is now on Steam and has Open Beta. So you can basicly play for free till the game comes out I think.
Couldn't get the demo working on Steam, but the Maniaplanet launcher does work.

I wish more people played this game. I generally like what they did with beginner servers but if you've advanced past beginner servers but aren't quite ready for elite yet, there aren't a ton of other options. If there were more players, I'd think the non-beginner royal servers would be more populated. Been playing a lot of joust in the meantime, but sometimes it's hit and miss with people being on those servers.

Shootmania got released on Steam now and i'm wondering what the general opinion is.
I saw it on TBs channel a while back and it didn't really look very interesting. The developers also seemed to have a "We'll release something very basic and let the community mod it into something good" attitude that i don't agree with.
So how is the game? Is it worth picking up?

I'm gonna update the OP "soon", most probably this WE. (meanwhile, if a mod could remove the ALPHA tag from the title, i would really appreciate )
The game is good. There is a lot of new features that has been added since beta that removed the 'this game is too simple' factor that existed in the alpha/beta. This includes new moves ( wall jumps, shooting down rockets with rail... ), new block with special effects ( wooden plank, fast path, grapple points etc..), new features that were not possible ( weapon switching, item pick up..). I think it has enough complexity to really become THE competitive FPS.
It will remain however community driven. The developers have clearly stated taht they want the community to create the maps/ game mode they want to play. Right now the competitive mode is Elite (3v3, 1 attacker with rail vs 3 defender with rockets each round), but i could see the new combo mode (2v2 with items and weapon switching) being really popular too. I'm not really sure what you dislike about this, but it will remain so.
If you like fast paced FPS like quake/UT, you should probably try it. The basics modes ( Royal, Elite and Joust) are Free To Play if I am not mistaken. So try it for free

I really like this game as a spectator. its very easy to watch because you can just follow the attacker.
rounds get pretty intense with the timer. I also like how on one end it takes a lot of team work to defend but with the attacker you also need individual skill.

I'm sure I could see myself enjoying the play, but it is so drab to watch the comp matches.

Hmmm....
I've played a few games in Battle and Royal now and have to say that i'm not convinced of it at all.
While the movement and the maps feel ok, the combat and general gameplay is very underwhelming. The slow projectiles of the guns make the combat very luck based at anything other than point blank range. You have to predict where the enemy will ADAD-wobble next and hope that he jumps so you get an easy hit. Aiming is quite pointless since the enemy can have moved over half the map before the projectile reaches the place he was at, so, unless the enemy is simply stupid and moves straight in one direction, it's mostly spamming in the general direction and hoping one of the projectiles hit.
Are there any modes with a variety of weapons, health/armor pickups and such that feel more like Quake?

I personally think the weapons are fine. The rocket is a bit slower than in quake, but not enough not make it unusable in a middle ranged figth.
You migth want to give a try to the combo mode. It is still very different from quake, but includes armor pick-up and weapon pick-up. I will edit the OP with the new available modes as soon as the mods unlock it ( old OPs cannot be edited).
