I need this for my sister who started the game as gladiator and doesn't know how to take aggro/enmity, keep it, or retake it when stolen. I don't think she even have a combo for just fighting, probably just spamming skills. All I know is she opens with shield lob because she read it somewhere. So she'd need a pretty clear-cut combo to use in each situation(ie. to take aggro do A, or to keep it do B). I'm going to make her rerun Satasha until she gets it right. Also advices for playing the game with gamepad would appreciated as she plays it on a PS3.

Against a single target, all you have to do is follow the sequence: Fast Blade -> Savage Blade -> Rage of Halone. Against two targets, Flash should probably be used sparingly, and as long as one target is being focused down, you can primarily use your enmity combo on that target (groups will often mark targets sequentially to make sure this happens). Against three or more targets, you're probably going to want to dump a lot of MP on Flash while making a judgment call as to where to place your enmity weaponskills. At a low level, you have so few options. It helps to read the tooltips to conceptualize how you should use which skills and in which situations. The stronger the weaponskill, the more enmity it will generate. The only concept that might come across as really foreign for players completely new to MMORPG mechanics would be how Provoke works. Provoke doesn't just "increase enmity", it actually sets your enmity to that of the enemy's current target and adds a single point of damage's worth of enmity, forcing the target to attack you as long as nothing else happens. So just using Provoke alone won't really help get a mob back; you have to Provoke and then generate snap aggro via weaponskills and other abilities. A common tactic is to start your enmity combo, Provoke, then finish your enmity combo, forcing the generation of burst enmity. Pulling trash is pretty simple. Shield Lob or run in, Flash to make sure you grab everything, then just 1-2-3 the target being focused down. Flash or change targets if healer(s) are generating too much enmity, Flash a lot if people are using AoE damage to kill the trash. Bosses are even simpler: just keep on using your primary enmity combo. If adds spawn during the fight, you can pick them up with Provoke followed by a Shield Lob or Flash (as if you were pulling fresh trash). Keep in mind that healing output will generate enmity on every mob currently engaged. On December 11 2013 07:11 Tachion wrote: So uh, how is ff14 doing? I don't play but I still checked this thread from time to time to see how the game was evolving. Kinda dead here lately though. 2.1 was both really good and kinda weird for the game. There are a ton of "regular" activities to do now, so people have reasons to log in every day, and there's more weekly content outside of just Coil (CT and extreme primals). However, by filling out the gear curve horizontally and below, then further emphasizing the importance of Allagan weapons from turn 5, the devs have set up an awkward leap-frogging process for itemization. PvP is surprisingly more fun than I imagined it would be, but is obviously in its infancy and needs a ton of work.

Bots are basically in the background now, whereas they felt like much more of a problem in 1.0. Post-2.0, the economy has sort of taken shape to be a little more like WoW's, where there are only a few major gil sinks (my FC bought a large house). Generally speaking, consumables used for regular daily gameplay are easily purchased with a minimum of effort. Someone who plays an average of 14 hours a week or so can probably be self-sufficient depending on time management. PvP is pretty wacky and shallow, but feels a lot better than most of us had anticipated given the state of the game engine. Hit detection is better than in PvE but still needs a lot of work. SMNs are extraordinarily strong. CC is probably too much of a focal point. Matches tend to be really short (2-3 minutes on average from my limited experience), much shorter than what anyone who played WoW arena would be used to. There is no duel function unfortunately. There are some hardcore PvPers who hit rank 30 pretty quickly, but it's basically a straight grind; there is no rating system in place, which is good and bad. Because you aren't penalized for losing, it's easier to experiment or queue up with random friends without fear of tanking your rating. It's a good diversion, but I would vastly prefer 8v8 CTF.

Is it possible to get much accomplished with random people through the party finder? Pretty hit and miss I imagine? Pretty bad. Party finder works, but you're going to have to muscle through a lot of groups full of people who have a much higher opinion of themselves than is warranted. People like to label PF groups as "farm groups for experienced people only" but there are zero guarantees, even with higher ilvl requirements due to how mythology works. There isn't enough content to maintain a concentrated level of interest for endgame players who keep up, but that doesn't mean you can't stretch out the content that does exist to a certain extent. For example, we know a lot of people have already been doing Titan Extreme with 1 tank and 1 healer, but we're pushing our speed kills to see how fast we can do it:

Soundtrack is straight up amazing, Nobuo Uematsu made a masterpiece once again. Can't talk for PvP since I havent touched it yet but PvE is really fine imo. I'm playing on a japaneese server so I don't know if that's the reason but so far everyone I found on the duty finder knew how to play his role.

http://ca.ign.com/articles/2014/02/18/final-fantasy-14-gold-saucer-development-has-begun That'd be amazing, and I would love it. Motorcycle game please! I started playing FFXIV around this time last month, but I haven't had much time to play. I would recommend the game to anyone who likes FF though, it's really, really cool! I haven't tried PvP, but I hear it needs work. I'm hopeful, the combat system has potential if you ask me. Some say it may be slow, but I would personally take this a thousand times over the overly fast and clunky combat system of GW2.
