This.
And, I played the beta. Tried to get a char on a NA server. Keep not being able to log in due to server being full. Now can't create another char on a different NA server.
lulz,
WTF

Just tried my first crafting class. Man making one yarn at a time is annoying as hell, and I thought Wow's professions were bad.

e; Maybe it feels so slow because I'm leveling as a CNJ. I grabbed Thunder from THU but it wasn't as good as I thought it'd be. Maybe the level 4 ARC skill is better.. I dunno. It's just if I ever level out with my quests I feel like I'll just kill shit too slow.
e2; I play on Ixion so msg me if you play on that server if you ever need a CNJ/WHM (when I get to it :D)
this is normal at lower lvls if you do every quest/fate you find. this gap will become smaller as you get higher lvls.

Better get used to it, its horrible inefficient to do anything besides single crafting even when you do get the quick synth ability.
Set up a macro early, it will make life alot easier

Awesome, thanks for that mate. I noticed a lot of my friends did FATE grinding instead of questing because the leveling is so much quicker. Is that recommended? (I don't mind missing the storyline quest since I'll eventually get them all done via other classes anyway I guess)

My advice: Do whatever you want and stop thinking about "what is the fastest way to level/get items/whatever"
Just sit back, enjoy the music and scenery, enjoy the gameplay and do what you want.

I strongly recommend doing the story quests until lvl 22 at least, which leads you to join a Grand Company, and your personal Chocobo mount. Doing FATEs without GC membership is pretty stupid, as you'll be missing out on the company seals that they also award (used to buy stuff from quartermasters).

can i play on Eu servers with the [NA] version, for example from Greenman gaming?
its so much cheaper.

its so much cheaper. "AU" version from SOE online store gives access to all servers, im assuming that would too.

So I don't know how many people know this but, you don't need to face the mob when using an ability because it'll autoturn you.
What this means is if you walk through a mob and hit an ability right away, it'll count as being behind them. So, if you're a Lancer or Pugilist that gets benefits from being behind an enemy, you can have 100% positional up time on those abilities.
I can get a 100% crit rate on every Opo-opo Bootshine.

am trying to figure out what i want my main class that i level first to be... am considering bard... but idk why anyone should go bard...because if u just play as an archer, you can use abilities from Lancer, Marauder, and Pugilist... some of which are huge damage increases... or u can become a bard in which case u cant use skills from marauder or lancer, but u gain some mediocre support songs....
really wish they had a true damage variant of archer instead of bard -.-

For those that played FFXI, doesn't logging in feel like the new HNM claiming?

And youll miss out on a nifty mount at the end. Doing all the quests while running to any active fates is still the fastest

I love the game, my THM is so fun. P2P is ironically refreshing. Horizontal progression allows me to keep busy and having fun while still getting to play with my less efficient friends.

So..... no one is able to create a character until next week.... What about open beta players? If I bought the game today, could I be playing on my open beta character? I heard that they carried over to release.

Well the Bard songs are pretty pointless for 4 man play, but I can see them (especially the mana regen one) being useful in 8 man + content.
I still like Bard cos Bards are awesome in every game ever, but yeah I don't think it's implemented particularly well.

Maybe FFXIV is completely different in this regard, but from a brd main in FFXI~ brd songs were never pointless. We trio'd (pld, whm, brd) almost every hnm there was during the lvl 75 cap days. Wouldn't have been possible without brd. I realize they are 2 different games but... I hope you're wrong.
