FFXI ended my life back in 2002-2005. Awwww god... nostalgic memories start flooding back. Endless hours of finding parties, there was so much teamwork required to play the game efficiently, unlike other MMORPGS where you can either get by solo or with just a bunch of randoms spamming skills.

Skillchains, Magic Bursts, Hate control, pulling creeps to camp. "OMG why did you pull the Valkrum Emperor!!!"

If they kept the same sort of structure as they did with FFXI, then I will definitely play FFXIV for a while. Just if they made a little bit more user friendly then it'll be great.

You guys should definitely try it out. You'll probably enjoy it. And it's only going to get better! It's so so so much better than when it was first released. I was in the same boat as most at release and quit for quite a while. I was impressed with the changes when i came back for good a year ago. Since then, it's 1000 times better than it was.

If I remember correctly they did an entire re-release, basically redoing the entire game. And it's better this time around, so I've heard.

The entire rerelease will be 2.0 which will be going into beta sometime in October. However the game is patching often to give us some of what we can expect in 2.0. The game currently costs 13 dollars per 30 days. I believe your first month is free however. But yes, FFXIV now is nothing like it was before

I kinda feel that no matter how well ffXIV is patched up it'll always carry the stigma of its initial launch. It's gonna be a huge up hill battle for square soft to turn this train wreck around.

Even though i never played any FF online, i've always been a great fan of FF (especially the 9 and 12, was delighted to find AGDQ speedrun it)

So it appears that since ARR has been in Alpha, some videos have come to light and have been posted on youtube, take a look

The interface looks MASSIVELY improved as well as the leveling system etc, need to keep a close eye on this

I can say that the feel of the game is vastly improved; Yoshida's dev team has definitely brought it up to par with contemporary MMORPGs, whereas 1.0 had a bloated carcass of an engine. They still managed to do some cool things with it, like legatus hardmode, but I'm psyched to see what Crystal Tower and Bahamut's Labyrinth are like. Hopefully combat speeds up a lot and has a much higher skill ceiling at level cap than what we've seen thus far though.

Just applied to beta yesterday, let's see where this is going.

I actually played the mess it was back then when it came out. It wasn't really THAAAT bad, but still there was a severe lack of incentive for me. I spent most of my time crafting and selling items and actually made a nice profit, but the combat wasn't very compelling. I never really grouped up or saw any of the bigger enemies though.

I've been keeping up with this since ARR was announced. It shows a loooot of potential. I think if they can balance the accessibility of big name MMOs on the market today, and still maintain the "difficulty" of a game like FFXI, this will be my new addiction. The original release was horrid, but there is certainly enough change to warrant a second look. I'm pumped!!

Oh Square there you are tempting me again...

After the colossal failure of FFXIV's launch I promised myself I wouldn't buy another square product so blindly. But I have to admit those videos do look nice and the game looks like it's improved by a landslide.

...Now one of my questions if it goes back to pay 2 play will my crysta still be valuable for subscriptions. (If it uses the same format that is). I stocked up crysta because I thought FFXIV was going to be awesome. Instead it was terrible and became F2P leaving me with 3 months worth of subscription currency.
