Starting a new character is a huge pain in the ass in this patch, not very happy right now.
I managed to loot an entire small town on the coast and still not find a weapon. I found an alice pack and like a dozen magazines of various ammo as well as bandages, painkillers, and food galore, but not a single thing that can protect me from zombies/players.

Zombie aggro problems combined with extremely low weapon drop rates make for a experience which is not always fun.

Anyone else think crowbars suck? It takes like 7 hits to down one zombie and by the time he's dead I'm bleeding at 7k health.
I haven't tried the hatchet yet but I assume it's the same.

i dont know if i should laugh or cry ^^
played with 2 friends, found a bus, fixed it and got to the military tents in stary sobor again. looted everything then someone comes, shoots 2 of us and alt+f4s after i shot him twice. so i bussed up, got my 2 buddies and we did the same thing again just to get flanked by 3 other guys.

its a shame tho that basically on every server i play everyone shoots on sight.
had a standoff in electros school a day ago where i saw 2 guys come in the room i was looting. one didnt have a gun so i didnt shoot him, then his friend comes in with a shotgun. i say be cool over voice and back off while keeping my aim on him.
as i move backwards through the school he follows me and starts shooting as soon as im going down the stairs.
killed him but his friend found a magnum and finished me off.

people always ask if someone is friendly, from my experience friendly doesnt exist in this game.
they need to put in some sort of punishment for bandits. not sure what but bandit life shouldnt be this easy.

In my opinion, shooting on sight isn't nearly as much of an issue as people Alt+F4'ing. People that do that need to go find a different game to play.

Yeah I had some guy help me out with a makarov in Elektro church the other day. I was running in with zombies on my tail and I was like "friendly man, be cool, sorry for the zombies", and we cleaned up them without losing much ammo or health. Then I guess he's friendly, go to the back of the church and grab some ammo and a compass. I tell him I have spare loot in my pack if he wants any (map, compass, binocs, matches) and he still doesn't reply. Go to grab a can of soda and he starts shooting me in the back, I turn round and shoot him in the head (1 shot, beautiful

).
He didn't have any loot really, so I head over to the fire station after hitting the hospital. See a guy on the way in while I'm in there and I talk to him over direct chat, saying I'm friendly, offering an AKM (in the station) and lots of spare loot again if he wants. Get no reply, he obviously thinks he's being sneaky or something, I hang out in there for a bit then decide to leave out the back, and he's lying there at the corner waiting for me to come out. He didn't get a shot off, I just blasted him in the face. Turns out it was the same guy.
He had two opportunities to get some sweet loot from me and make a friend, and both times he just chose to try to kill me instead. Seriously don't get players like that.

[NEW] New players will spawn with flashlight added to their toolbelt not backpack

Wow... I have 30 hours played and found only 1 flashlight (and couldn't even pick it up)... I don't wanna die now...

Definitely worth it for the mod, not heard of any of us who had it beforehand. And it is awesome, theres a lot of problems and bugs now and then, but it usually gets fixed pretty quick.

Will the zombies movement get fixed somewhere down the line? I mean the way theyre running now you basically cant shoot them if youre on open ground.
And i say this after having played fps games for >10 yrs.

I bought Arma 2 CO during a christmas sale for like $7.50 or something because it sounded interesting, but I promptly uninstalled it because it seemed too complex.

Its not worth $25 just for the mod and the I dont seem to understand why players complain the installation or the gameplay in general is complex... It has a higher learning curve but most of the simulation features are not even utilized in the mod itself and installing the game is as simple as cut and paste.

I had ARMA before DayZ, and I have been a fan of Bohemia Interactive since Operation Flashpoint. Not only the mod is worth 25$ to me (poured 300 hours into that shit), but the game itself is very good. Single player is a huge and fun tutorial with a scenario, and it gets serious with multiplayer.
I mean, it's a freaking military simulation, from basic infantry all the way up to commanding troops from the map, from bikes to A-10, from makarovs to nuclear bombs. There's more to be done than you can think of, and it's not just scripted BS like in most modern games.
Also, DayZ isn't the only mod for this games, I heard they are a lot of other very good ones, even some zombie related.

Honestly I would say the game is worth the money just for dayz, I've sank tons of time into dayz and not even touched arma itself yet.
