But if I buy arma2 i know there is no way I will ever play it except for the DayZ mod, so can someone give me some advice on whether this mod is worth dropping the $30 on its own? Well, it's not even in beta yet for one. It's not just me but dozens of Steam friends who at times can spend hours trying to connect to servers because it's so buggy at the moment. It has some nice balance issues going on, and as people said before the moderation staff is extremely incompetent at times. With that said, when you can finally get into a stable server and just play for an hour or so, it's some of the most fun out there I've had in video games. It really pulls off what it's trying to do well. I would not under any circumstance drop $30 to get this at its current state though unless you were fanatical about this kind of game, and would at least wait until late June for the Steam Sale, where Arma 2 will inevitably be like $5 for CO or something and you could just pick it up then, when the game may be going into beta anyways. EDIT: Another reason to wait until the Summer Sale is well, at risk of being flamed into oblivion, this game has FOTM written all over it. It would be a shame to drop $30 on a mod that may only be active for a month or two and then drop into nothingness. So wait until the Summer Sale if you don't already got the game, because you can get the game cheaper, less buggy as fuck, and you can see where it's actually going in terms of a stable community.

Plus for $30 i've played worse games (at release and after) by miles. Regarding the community for this: it's just getting bigger by the day, at the start there were around 10 servers, now there are loads from different regions. If anyone has some questions, you can just PM me. Or alternatively just watch some of the streams/vids of people playing.

Obviously it's still in Alpha, so there are a number of bugs but i have to say, still a great game. Plus for $30 i've played worse games (at release and after) by miles. I'm not outright saying this is one, but it has all the signs of it and if you don't even own ARMA yet I wouldn't go out and buy it yet. Because this wouldn't be the first time a huge mod or game or something went from nothing to fucking huge for a month or two and then went back into obscurity.

Here's a link even It's US only but you can just make your billing address in the US. I've bought about 6 games this way from my imaginary home in Delaware (no sales tax there apparently)

Do you think it's better to get the game on summer sale, or would it be better to wait for Arma 3 and the mod to be ported over? I discovered this game a couple weeks ago, but I don't know if it's worth grabbing or not if everything moves to Arma 3 in 4 months or something. Well, this is not based in fact at all, but generally a mod port can take a very long (relatively) time, so there might be a large gap inbetween arma 3 and the mod being released... That being said, I'm not really sure.

Anything to the tune of moving to ARMA 3 is rumor or pure speculation. Read through the interviews from the developer of the mod and you'll understand that he's very committed to this mod (on ARMA 2).

Yes.. think of it as being similar to minecraft in that regard. You can leave and it saves your stuff/location/etc. This is true across all servers as the save goes to a master database.
