Not that he's even remotely hard to kill, but probably not a great idea to make enemies out of people a few meters from your current spawn. Haha yeah, lesson learned there. There was a sign near him that said "try attacking" so i assumed...that it meant him. I fought him a couple times and i could parry/riposte him like 4 times and seemingly do no close to no damage. I'll probably start over and try again, we'll see. Good to hear they're getting rid of gfwl for DaS2. Now if ubisoft and ea will follow suit...(i can dream)

Also, those orange signs (after you get off the Undead Asylum) are written by other players lol, so yeah, some will be fun and helpful, but you should take them all with a grain of salt.

In their defense, Without those Orange Soapstones I would have been so lost and confused in the Crystal Caverns

The first message showing the first hidden path in crystal caverns is put there by developers I believe.

Weren't those messages from the developers added later with a patch ? I'm pretty sure that if he played the game at release there were no messages there.

Awww yeah the good old "Try jumping" or "Amazing treasure ahead" in front of a clift, so tempting.... Once I used all my souls and jumped following one of those messages, the next thing I did was to write "Liar ahead" xD.

The only worth while messages are all the "amazing chest" ones by Gwynevere and her statues.

I should try to play this game again. Was going trough my steam games and saw this the other day: "played 40 hours" "Last played 08/03/13"
Maybe I restart to celebrate the 1 year off.

is there any matchmaking in invasions? Because some dude jumped into my game and basically insta-killed me. I'm in the ghetto cloth starting gear and he's got some black armor that looks like it's made of fire. Do you just kinda have to deal with people showing up out of the ether and killing you, or just play hollow until you're max level?
|
It is based on soul level. However, you can finish the game and get all gear at level 1 if you are good enough. Thus, there are assholes in the starting areas preying on beginners. I'd suggest being hollow whenever possible so you don't have to deal with the silly invasion mechanic. Luckily, being alive doesn't actually have any advantages except for kindling fires, and you usually gain enough humanity to just unhollow yourself whenever you want to kindle a fire.
Probably this is the point where someone will come out and tell you that the whole invasion thing is totally cool and fun and stuff. It might be if you are an asshole that likes killing beginners for fun. It is not when you are someone that just wants to play the game and then keep on getting killed by assholes against whom you have no chance whatsoever. Invasions do not produce balanced PvP, they are a mechanic that rewards assholes for being assholes, and gives them a constant stream of victims who just want to play the game, are prepared for PvE, and then get slaughtered by twinked out characters at every step of the way. I repeat again, just don't be alive, there is no benefit to it.

I have a SL 1 Darkwraith myself, I spent about 15 minutes in undead burg instagibbing beginners and got bored beyond belief. There's literally nothing fun about it, even if you dick around, your opponent is not going to enjoy himself, and there's obviously no skill involved when you kill them in one hit and they can't even touch you. Even worse when the players you come up against might be running through dark souls for the first time and have no idea what they are doing, so you'll win even without having gear equipped.
I wish Dark Souls 2 would handle it differently... there are fun ways to PvP in dark souls, forest guardians covenant etc. When people are at a similar level with similar gear, that's when it becomes interesting.

WHY YOU DO THIS TO ME T_T

Probably will do another playthrough of Dark Souls before DS2 releases for PC. Been thinking about just doing a Pyro since it's like the only build I haven't done in the game yet...
Also, if anyone still doesn't have it, Dark Souls is $10 right now on Green Man Gaming.

I decided to do the same, tried to play as a sorcerer but quit because it was way too easy. Now I´m playing a cleric which I want to become sth similar to Artorias.

Its funny, I just got into Dark Souls 1 after quitting it the first time after 30minutes. I really got hyped about DS2 and wanted to learn the Controls again before DS2 comes out late April. And now I just beat the Sewer-Dragonthingy before Blighttown. That Boss wasn't even that hard, the hardest part was that I fell down some hole and got cursed. I was scarred as fuck as I saw these big-eye things and had to google how to fix that. I guess my Level34 is kinda high for that part of the Game, I failed alot at the start so I got alot of Souls to level up early.
But I'm so lost when it comes to equipment and gear. I googled that Katanas are a good Dex Weapon and thats basically it, what I know when it comes to my "Build". I now have my Dragonsword and my Katana +5 and that shows how good the Combat system is. With the new Weapon the Combat feels completly different. But I feel forced to google for everything, because the Game tells you not alot. And boy can't I wait for the Teleport feature in DS2, its so annoying when you clear half of the Map and then die and spawn in the Depth again. -_-
And probably the worst thing is, the Game forces me to play it Cracked, because I can't be bothered with GFWL (what is dead already!). So I guess no online features for me.

Hopefully not a spoiler, but you unlock a Warp/Teleporting between bonfires feature about halfway through DkS1 as well. You can't warp to every single bonfire, but it still helps a lot.

Who designed that Stray Demon, the Beginning is so fucking annoying.
€dit: Well got him finally, after I lowered my Equip Load.
