Sweet ty! I just met the Capra Demon, OMG, hes fucking ridiculous, is that the only place left to go after ringing the 1st bell? Or am i supposed to go towards the forest area? Im also streaming if anyone wants to see me Rage http://www.twitch.tv/rebufferingg

Forest is later. You can hang around there for a bit if you want, maybe farm some souls there or something, but for general progression you would want to go downwards and kill the capra demon. He isn't actually that hard, just really annoying the way he is in an incredibly small place with 2 dogs. If you kill the two dogs, you can easily kill him, his stuff isn't that hard to dodge. Main annoying thing is that you pretty much have a 3 second fight most of the time until you learn how to dodge which way.

So i start climbing dem' ladders, i got to the last ladder which is on this tiny ledge, AND I FUCKING BACKROLLED OF THE LEDGE AND DIED!!!! LOL. Thank god them bosses stay dead, i dont know why i tapped B when trying to climb that ladder. Hilarious either way, so many derp moments like that. I swear i must have lost 30,000+ souls trying to kill those gargoyles, as i died so many times before picking up my corpse.
I love how those tips specifically say to not go in the graveyard. I also died there dozens of times thinking i could kill those fucking skeletons! Fuckers are tough, but i was like, cmon, ive got the skills to kill them......i really dont, and im never returning there ever again lol. Thats the spirit!

Lol this Capra demon is going to take me like all day. Man everytime i try to dodge left, theres a dog that blocks me!!! Fucking dogs!

The stairs are usually a good place to head for, the demon often can't get up there for a few seconds allowing you to kill doggies. You might want to consider getting a good spear so you can kill a dog while blocking. The demon itself usually doesn't cross the room tooo fast if you are across, also allowing you a few precious seconds with the doggies. Don't fall into a defensive mindset while the dogs are alive, though. They must die, fast. Once they are dead you can study the demon and learn his tells.

I tuned in for a stream, not to watch you reading this thread!

Capra is kinda iffy though. Sometimes you won't be able to get up the stairs as Capra or the dogs can block you. Kinda dumb but it can happen. + Show Spoiler +Just keep trying until you can get up on that overhang. Capra can't really get you and will keep falling down and you can pick off the dogs.

Notes on Capra: + Show Spoiler +Capra is intrinsically an easy boss. All of his attacks are either very dodgeable or very blockable.
What makes him really brutal are the combination of dogs and tiny room. The stairs are okay for killing the dogs, but I've historically had a better time killing them right as I come in the room. Once they're down, and assuming you don't get caught against a side of the room, Capra isn't so bad. If you have a basic weapon, you can gold pine resin it to kill the dogs faster. The rest of the fight is straightforward.

Seeing someone on their first playthrough and discovering everything and all these people discussing/giving tips makes me all tingly inside :D. This is such a wonderful game, with an awesome community.

Taking a break for now. LOL i just lost 26K souls, cause i fucking backrolled off a cliff right before picking up my dead body. But i made good progress! And i hope people enjoyed the rage and confusion! Going to try to get video quality up, it shouldn't look THAT bad, my PC/bandwidth should be able to handle it better than it is currently.

Well if you picked the black firebombs as your starting gift, then you can kill him with those. Otherwise you gotta jump on his head (after you enter that white mist door), then just dodge some attacks and get some hits in. Persevere my friend, there's always a way.

Also, to state the perhaps obvious, he's pretty hard to kill when you first go in the room.
But in general for most basic bosses, remember that you can block a surprising amount of shit. And if you ever see them winding up, get out of the way. But otherwise, mostly just circle for the tail and hit him, remembering to keep enough stamina to dodge/block any attacks.

That's the way with most of the game, you're looking for very old school way to killing bosses and enemies. Either looking for the 1 hit ko. Or you're trying to follow their attack pattern and look for an opening, sometimes looking for something like cheesing like circle strafing. Either way it's good practice to not think about attacking just dodge and observe till you can get a feel for their attacks and effectively avoid, block or parry them in a profitable manner all the time then look for an opening. Darksouls is a game heavy into attrition.
Learning how to dodge and block and enemy attack patterns is pretty much 90% of the game. The rest of it is just learning the map and a few area/boss/enemy specific tricks. Leveling etc wont help you as much as just learning how to dodge then attack back on enemies with your specific weapon set up.

And parrying is boss. It's trickier than block/counter, but if you practice a lot on the goons, you can get good, and it makes a lot of the game easier. The black knights, for instance, are tricky for a new player, but really easy once you get the parry timing down.

How does parrying work exactly? Your supposed to hit LT right before you take a hit or something? Either way im bad at it lol

Yeah. A lot of the weaker enemies have long attack animation startup times so they're pretty easy to parry. You have to have a shield (but not a greatshield-class) equipped to do it, and the parry timings vary between the small shields and the medium ones. Once you parry, you'll hear a satisfying sound effect (the same one those assassin guys used on you when you got owned in Lower Undead Burg, before Capra) and the opponent will be stunned, and you can use RB to riposte for huge damage (this, along with backstabs, is called a Critical Hit). You have to be right in front of the enemy's face when parrying though, because the range on ripostes is pretty short.
Generally, you can't parry stuff that's much bigger than you, and you can't parry grabs at all. However, for strikes (or even projectiles!) that aren't parryable where you still hit the button at the proper timing, the attack will go through you and you'll take some residual deflection damage, giving you an opportunity to reposition yourself or counterattack. Thus, "everything" (again, except grabs) is parryable with varying levels of effectiveness depending on the enemy, but you should take any instance of a deflection as a lesson that says "this enemy doesn't recoil when I parry, I should probably think of another way to fight."
