I did play old Simcity but i was 8 and had no idea what Im doing but if i understand this game correctly its all about getting all the tech, have the largest city while having happy people. Basically get your city to the point where there is nothing more to do ? If so, my question is why dont just use build of some pro and just finish the game ? Simcity looks great and I can tell from streams that people are having fun but I just dont get it. the goal is to reach end game with export profits or tourism profits. export is easy but i'm having difficulty with gambling city and its trial and error until it works. trying out different things with different city: recycling highly educated, rich, less populated city or polluted oil drilling high density city, etc, etc. etc.

Despite that, you don't necessarily have to build the biggest most efficient city possible. You are free to build any kind of town you want really, I guess it's up to the player's imagination. I mean, from what I've seen, the enhanced road tool as well as the building diverstiy and the beautiful graphics allow for the creation of some pretty wonderful landscapes.

My waste trucks were stuck, my firetruck were stuck, everything was stuck! The city became derelic in a matter of minutes because of the traffic. My income went from 20k/hour to -3k/hour. I removed 90% of my industry and commercial zoning and left it running for a while. The pop went up to 300k and my income to 6k/hour, but there was still monster jams of people going nowhere in particular. It got me pissed. I bulldozed the whole city and rebuilt everything on a single wiggly line. If I can't control traffic, I might at least have fun with this silly game.

There was no issues with fires, waste or traffic. When I came back and the rest of the region was built up with other cities, my streets became clogged! Trade is fun and all, but I'm trying to make a city without trade. I also discovered another bug, after I bulldozed my city earlier, the services like garbage, recycling, fire, police and hospital no longer dispatch vehicles. So my city is essentially without services despite having all the right buildings.

This, along with the infinite visitor, and trade problems, should be fixed in 2.0, along with cheetah speed, sometime this week. I hope.

I made a pretty river city first (no trade), was the first city so I wasn't terribly smart about things. Ended up with most of my sims commuting to one of her cities for education, my sims became very smart, so I plop down a nuke plant and things work great. I leave that city and go off and found a disgusting dirty industrial alloy+metal city that rakes in money. I played it for a long while, made a ton of money, sent some $ gifts to my wife's cities. Decided to go back to my original city. Load up my original city and all of a sudden my people couldn't go to school in the region anymore (I think my wife played the city where they were all going and the schools got filled up). I wasn't really paying attention -- well that was until my nuke plant blew up, right in the heart of my river city (river cities don't have that much room since maps are small and rivers are big!). So the city began collapsing in on itself and losing tons of money, so I loaded up my rich city. Set my rich city to make a ton of money, sent about $1.5M in gifts to my original city (after you send the gift you have to wait in that city for ~5 minutes until you see the "gift sent to such and such" pop up on the top of the screen). Then loaded up my original city. I played the city for a good while waiting for the gifts, but they never came. My bank account hit zero, and I had to turn off some services (don't need healthcare for nuclear fallout, right?). Flipped back over to the rich trade city. Sat in the rich trade city and saved up another $1.6M in gifts, sent them along to my poor nuclear wasteland. Went back to the wasteland city. Crime was horrific, everyone was commuting everywhere else which jammed up the entrance to the city, everyone was sick and dying. Interestingly I still had a fair number of tourists (Is Chernobyl really a tourist trap?). Finally the $1.6M gift arrives (mind you this was the second gift arriving before the first!), which gives me enough working capital to start restructuring. I've played intermittently and one of the last times I was playing my nuclear wasteland all of a sudden the $1.5M gift showed up. With $3M in the bank I have enough to stabilize the city while I wait for the fallout to dissipate. It's been interesting to see the effects of this on the region. Because the city ran without police for so long, there were so many criminals roving about that the region has had terrible crime problems Aside from the bugs (of which there have been plenty) it's been kind of interesting to play a region and see the interaction between cities. I would say that I can see some promise in Sim City 5, if they would get rid of the bugs and the more frustrating limitations (city size! regional traffic!).

i was trying to have all RCI to make everyone happy, limiting flow of people going from city to city but i'll be removing all my industrial as it seems i dont need them. plus my people wont stay educated....my community college is getting 47 students and my university is closed because i didnt place a dept. of ed. after restart. after bulldozing and rebuliding, i had a huge traffic problem (50,000 commuters for no reason from restart) but after fixing the layout a bit, the traffic flow is pristine. huge thing that helped is medium density road and high density avenue intersection does not have traffic light and does not hold down traffic. as for not getting students, i think it has to do with "not enough teachers". do i build $ or $$$ zones for teachers/professors? there is high demand for $$$ residential

I reallly wanna get an upgrade for it. The school of science would be nice (I wanna research the nuke plant upgrades). But the layout of my town basiclly has me totally handicapped for growth (stuck at 39k). I guess these kinds of cities need the aracology or other cities in the region). I think I am going to start a new city and get a recycling center asap. I would like to make a city in a region with other players but because EA turned off the filters finding open spots in regions is damn impossible. If any TLers would like to invite me to their region (Orcasgt22 on origin) that would be cool. Or I could make a private one and invite you guys Oh they released a new item to DL from origin. Its a Nissan Leaf charging station. Its free to DL and provides happiness to the entire city. 5k to build and can make 5 of them. No power, sewage, water or pollution is generated by it. Adding it acctually reduces air pollution from cars because Sims will be driving the Leafs instead. Up keep is 100 and its absolutly worth it to plop 5 of these in your city at various locations.
