It took the guys around a week to crack the initial version. I'm sure they'll crack the new patch. However it definitely confirms the artificially restricted city sizes and probably will have "bigger cities" DLC, for only $19.99!
Yes, but wasn't it known/published long before release? Besides, no one forces you to buy dlc. One could argument about how much more you could have got, if they developed it without microtransactions. But even at the actual state of the game, it's worth its money as a computer game.
Problem with this line of thinking is, yeah, the game is worth $60. But the creators probably envisioned the complete experience with larger cities, which they intentionally cut off while being in the initial package for the sake of then selling it to you.
In conclusion, they purposedly sold you an incomplete game, even though they have the complete game available.
Poor business practice, shows little care for customers. And shows they want to force people to buy the DLC, because otherwise they won't experience the full game.
I agree on all off that. But this business model is up&coming and very probably not to stop. Do the most of it now, enjoy what the industry delivers (simcity is enjoyable, for me at least) and maybe we will survive this period of gaming, and be smarter in the next :p
Holy shit this game is good for my health. I'm a really heavy smoker (2 cigarettes an hour), yet this is my first cigarette in 8 hours. You just disappear from the world.
This generation of gamers is so spoiled. I wonder if Brood War was launched by now, people would try to "fix" its flaws (and whine about them in forums)

You do know about the flaws in this game though, do you?

Welcome to the entitlement era, where everybody has their own opinion and will try and force it down your throat. The best way to go about things these days is take what everybody says with a grain of salt, look at professional reviews + audience reviews and find a happy medium.

Not fixed yet, since its not live. But like you say, nice to know they are aware and care. Hope it gets pushed through soon so I can start playing again.
got this game about a day ago and I've never played the others before. I was just so bored waiting for HoTs... maybe my anticipation for that game got me too eager to play something. Made a city and got to 100k in the first few hours. i tried sandbox but it didn't work because i didn't know how to progress and turn off buildings.
gotta say, it was worse than what I expected. for a 60$ game, it was nothing comparable to starcraft.
multiplayer was fucked. you cant search for games. it displayed games that you cant even join! what is the point of that. The server lagged so hard, and the same games to join were showing up on top that you couldn't join.
I then later found out the only way to join a game and play with a stranger is to stalk a random person, go to their profile, and search for their games. Most like they made their own or have friends playing together with... It kind of made me feel sad for having to do that... and sheepish.
So the city... yeah, once your city reaches aorund 100k population, your traffic is clogged... forever. I redid some cities, just beccause of that. Nothing was moving, literally. Was it a bug?? So you can't upgrade to avenues, didn't know that. Apparently you have to destroy buildings and everything to build them. Even having every transportation method like streetcars and shuttle bus didn't help the traffic.
also, theres always people protesting at the city hall, even tho nothing was wrong.
they need to add in some sort of reference to know the maximum building density so you don't constantly guess.
yeah, im done with this game. its multiplayer sucks. sims are stupid. traffic is the main cause of all that is wrong. and with the sandbox, i pretty much explored everything, and it just got boring from there.
regretted buying this game, but good thing i gots hots!!! yeaa
Thankfully, they are fixing the main thing that you have a problem with Lokian.
I also doubt you explored everything. Tourist city? Industrial? Park? Commercial? Residential? Services? Link your regions as you control a bunch of cities that help eachother? Different city layouts? I dont see any way to fully explore this game in a week.
Ugg, what's with people releasing games unnumbered or without a subtitle or at least a date (like Simcity 2013 instead of juts "Simcity") these days?
Kind of like the SSX from 2012 (which funny enough, I just realize is also from EA games).
It makes it harder to search for things on google, gamefaqs, etc.
Imagine 10 years later, they release another unsubtitled Simcity game.
Sure most of the time people talk about the most recent version but it's still really silly not to put a subtitle or a number. It helps prevent confusion and makes it a bit easier on everyone.
It's not like saying Simcity 5 will make people go "Oh noes! Since I haven't played Simcity 1-4, I'll definitely not buy Simcity 5!".. I mean I heard Diablo III sold kind of well despite having a number in it (Diablo III was the best selling PC game of all time on Amazon AFAIK).
If not a number, at least add a subtitle or the date. (Simcity 2013 would have worked IMO. I mean, I guess I can see maybe like 1-2 people out of like a bajillion think they'd have to play Simcity 1-4 before playing Simcity 5 but if you put Simcity 2013, no one would think that).

I was watching a stream yesterday where the guy was able to with 420k population with an 80%+ approval rating and very little traffic problems without using a single piece of mass transit. Don't go blaming the game for poor urban planning decisions.
While that is true, the pathfinding is still inefficient regardless. For situations that really are poorly designed, it probably won't fix it that much.
While this is a deliberate attempt to show the fact that they need to change their pathfinding algorithms and AI, it's also a result of silly / stupid planning too.

I mean, take my words with a grain of salt since I still don't actually have the game yet, nor am I any expert on Urban Planning/sociology/anthropology, but the way I see it, the sims sort of behave people do:
1) they try to take the shortest route to their destination, regardless of traffic. 2) They will stick to the shortest route, regardless of traffic. 3) People generally are not aware of traffic levels unless you are using a smartphone with Google maps on it. Even then a lot of people don't check traffic (if they did, there wouldn't be traffic jams). But if you really have to go somewhere, conditions 1 and 2 tend to override the fact that the current route is jammed pack.
The AI is still pretty bad though, and it could use work. I've seen cars go through the weirdest ways to a destination. And emergency vehicles need to be fixed.
It is specialized in Alloy production at the moment. Not a big population, but then it doesn't need much of one. Plus, with that topology, trying to get optimal density is a royal pain the butt.
