minus the launch server issues it's a really fun game, I have like 10 hours total playtime since it released.

Bullshit. There are plenty of PC games in 2013, even among major studio releases, that don't require that. It's a bullshit limitation for bullshit reasons. PC games without drm yes PC only games without drm fat chance. Exactly most people i've talked to who actually played the game still find it fun it's different and takes awhile to get into it but it's still a simcity.

After getting it working it 100% reminds me of the great Simcity 2000 I played for years. Takes awhile getting used to it but I can spend hours just messing with the city and adding buildings. Same with Civ 5 sadly lol.

As far as the always online - it's mostly for DRM, and then some of it is glassbox. I mean, my computer can't handle 5000+ individual Sims. The previous games didn't have to - but they dropped the level of simulation down to that level and kindof altered how the entire game behaves. (Such as - c'mon guys, get your asses out of bed, get in that firetruck, and go put out that gorram fire!) A disaster isn't utterly crippling, and non-grid cities are interesting. The city size seems larger than the beta (but I can only go based on TB's stream, and either he's a more aggressive expander or there's a little breathing room) but then that might also depend on the region. I created a region on NA East (Well, NA East 1 now I guess) called Northwest Flawridah (I think - can't get in to see it), a nice place called Pensivecola. (If you're interested, my name is my name is my name. I've used this handle online for over 20 years - kills my anonymity a bit but it simplifies life and I like the continuity.) That region has only *three* city slots on it. Other regions have more. And of course, if you really want to, you can create a private region, and just take over all the cities on it. (Call yourself Governor, maybe.) I don't see anyone pulling off a megacity (as I've seen in other SimCity games, with optimal placements, insane math to find it, and 6+ million residents) because, yeah, you just can't - but you could create your own regions, and manage several cities as a unit with different specialties. (Create a Seattle-Tacoma style relationship maybe.) I like it, but I want to get back to my city dammit. LET ME IN.

In this one, it's just industrial. (Likewise the other two zones.) On the one hand, it makes it easier to manage, although I have run into issues where I borked a road placement or spacing, and then find myself having to wait for simolians to deal with it. The game itself is pretty decent, and I was able to play (and stream) last night without any issues. Seems a mite busier today, so I'm hanging in the queue. :/ As far as the always online - it's mostly for DRM, and then some of it is glassbox. I mean, my computer can't handle 5000+ individual Sims. Industrial mixes into tech level in the surrounding area so it's not quite just Industrial. Road and traffic is such a dick in this I often use the first city to send shit tons of money to another specialized city who has full sized roads built in advance for high density. So far the best i've hit is over 100k with half the city just covered by skyscapers, so maybe can hit like 300k if my placement was a little better. That being said they shit soo much dam their waste and killing my land value. So far i've only messed with smaller regions someone could probably take one of those 16 cities regions and make 16 optimized cities. So far the one thing i really wish i could do is just level X by Y section this click each building takes forever when i want to restructure an area. Maybe i can do that and i'm just an idiot.

Modding (NAM) helped fix this issue. Stuff like this just kills me. 1) SC4 developer includes a traffic model (shortest route) that is basically completely fucking broken in any real sense of creating a large functioning city, 2) the community creates a mod (NAM) that introduces better models fixing the mess made by developers 3) SC5 not only uses the original broken traffic mod, but doesn't allow mods. Only saving grace is that the city size is so limited, you might not even really feel the negative effects of their traffic model. i thought about this when i wernt to sleep. all they had to do is add attributes for each road for each type of agent. For example, electricity gets the value 1 in each road. For traffic, the avenue gets a 0.5 and a dirtroad a 2. Then you use the exact same pathfinder as they do now, but you just multiply all the lengths the pathfinder uses with the attributes you set. this doesnt avoid traffic jams, but at least they use the best roads, i think it would be quite close to how real people behave. baffles me that they didnt implement such a simple solution.

Also took a few log-ins in and out for the changes to happen. I believe so. God mode is turned off by default in bunch of pub regions, but I haven't investigated the cheat codes to turn on disasters and what not. IIRC your existing cities work similar to a mmo champion list, you have a limit on how many you can have at once but you can remove and make new ones whenever.

Hardened me against this, anyways it's not like i'm losing a master piece atleast not yet.

I guess that would explain why it went so fast.. but it still doesnt make sense to preload only 0.268 / 12 GB

Anyone tried a VPN to access the game early or does Origin not allow this? Tried it and I could see the US store but it still said Sim City was unreleased >.<
