Not like they can add more to the story in a good way after the events of ToB. I doubt they can pull off the same epic feeling with BG3. Specialy since they would most likely dumb it down to increase sales. If they made a slightly updated version of the old games i wouldnt mind(With increased resouloution etc)

I really hope they stick to 2D. So superior to 3D in games like Baldur's Gate, where the storyline/characters makes up 80% of the enjoyment value.

Especially considering the time passed, the change in publishers, the recent controversy around BioWare and the general trend of the gaming industry. Chances are we'll see a hack'n'slash third-person game filled with microtransactions released in late 2014. I really, really want to believe, as Baldur's Gate easily is my favorite gaming franchise of all time, but I doubt a new part could reach or even surpass the older games in quality, scope and replay value.
True, there will probably be 4 different weapons in the game and you won't be able to change your party's gear, because that's just too much for us stupid gamers to handle, what we want is simplicity!

I don't care 2D or 3D.. But i want an Engine that is really good at showing stuff from above (not like the NWN or Dragon Age "thing" that constantly wants to drag you closer...).

If Obsidian could make it, they might have a shot at developing a game with an awesome story at least, Bioware could pull it off, too. But both companies seem to be busy with something else right now. Bioware at least - for Obsidian I read something about burnt bridges..

This could be either the best game ever or the biggest dissapointment ever, no pressure developers

Oh. My. God.
Let's hope that stay true to the isometric viewpoint along with the beautiful 2.5d 'paintings' as environmental graphics.

Oh dear. Somewhat intrigued, but I would say that the chances of them not screwing this up completely are next to zero.
PS. D&D3.5 rules or go home.

holy shit..
I really hope thats true !!! ;D
BG is like the best singleplayer game ever..

Baldurs Gate II is STILL the best RPG ever made.
If this is real and they don't fuck it up I'll be in my room for two weeks with no human contact, just like bg2.

So if this is true, who is gonna be the developer?

Not getting my hopes up until there's an actual announcement, and even then, they'll probably make some half-assed RPG with loose connections to the original series. It's all about money to them. I'd rather they not ruin one of the best video game series of all time.

Bioware is awful now.

The guys that did NWN2: Motb.. at least the story, should get this. Then this could become awesome

They will most definitely not use a D&D ruleset, I would bet on that. Publishers tend to think that every gamer is an immature imbecile and simplify everything.

Then this could become awesome Obsidian already has 2 projects on their hands (Wheel of Time and South Park), and I've heard rumors that they botched their corporate relations with Atari after finishing NWN2, so that's exceedingly unlikely.

I've been waiting for BG3 for more than a decade now. This has got to be the most wanted game of all-time, and at the same time the hardest one to make. SOOOO many things have to go down right - if the game will be anything but perfect the fans will shun the new release. I mean the game is easily the best RPG game ever made (even by today's standards). I think it's the best game ever made, period.

As a huge Baldur's Gate fan, this scares me. Looking at the direction of games nowadays, they will probably make it a 3D action RPG, with big-titted women and flashy finishing moves and an ultimate cliche save-the-world plot.
