Gore is still good but he's not Arian Foster. I'll believe the Vikings can stop the Texans when I see it come week 16. The Texans have a much more explosive offense than the 49ers, but a less stifling defense (IMO). I'm not sure why everyone is convinced the Vikings are suddenly a good team. They barely beat Jacksonville in OT, lost to Indianapolis, barely beat a struggling Lions team, and crushed a hapless Titans team. The only convincing win has been the 49ers, which was still an 11 point game and everyone will tell you they have bad games now and again.
I'll believe the Vikings are for real when they win some of the harder games after the bye week (Chicago and Green Bay twice, Houston).

I think the Vikes are better than everyone thought they were at start, but still not a contender tbh. Like maybe a 7-9, 8-8 team at best. Harvin looks nasty this year. AP is AP. Don't think Ponder is legit though. Don't care much for that D except for allen and a few others.

Christian Ponder doesn't have to be excellent to keep winning these games. Just has to keep the ball with his team and not turn it over.

Trust me on this one. Start Luck . He'll pass and run the ball all over the Jets. Kolb is too inconsistent. He's a hit away from getting hurt. His O.Line is not good enough for the Bills front 7.

I think that the Vikings are probably a fairly solid team. I can see them competing for a wild card, but I wouldn't rank them as an elite team yet.
As for the Texans, I'm not comfortable calling them the best team in the NFL yet. The jury is still out on them. On paper, they have a very good team. From their performance last year with a backup QB, I'd definitely rank them among the best teams in the league. However, I still want to see them play some serious contenders. So far, they have only been beating up on shitty - mediocre teams: Miami, Jacksonville, Denver, Tennessee and the New York Jets. The Denver and Jets games were far closer than they should have been given how good the Texans should be. Their next four games are Green Bay, Baltimore, Buffalo, and at Chicago. We'll have a much better sense of how good the Texans are after that stretch.
In my opinion, the top teams are the Niners, the Patriots, the Giants, Bears (though they may fall off if their defense stops scoring so many points), and the Texans (and not necessary in that order). I really am not sold on the Falcons. I think that they'll fold when they start playing some decent competition.

Not sure why you'd put the Bears in that group but not the Falcons. The Falcons have a much better offense and while the defense isn't as good is serviceable. In addition, they don't really have any competition in their division unless the Saints make a miraculous comeback. At this rate the Bears won't top the NFC North, and you can always count on Cutler to choke like it's going out of style when the season is on the line. They might be able to grab a wildcard but it's tough to say with how jumbled up the NFC has gotten with the west performing well and the south and east sucking horribly.

I put the Bears in because they have been taking care of business against better competition than the Falcons. Their only loss was to Green Bay at Green Bay isn't much to be ashamed of. I don't know why you don't think that the Bears will win their division. They're 4-1 along with Minnesota. Green Bay is 2-3 and Detroit is 1-3. All of those teams have equally tough schedules. Minnesota and Chicago have the inside tracks to winning the division given their current 4-1 records, and I think that Chicago is simply the better team. Who knows, though. Green Bay my go apeshit crazy during the remainder of the season and finish 11-5, which could be enough to win the division. But yes, Cutler could choke.
As for the Falcons, I think that it's a given that they'll take their division and earn a bye week (probably number 1 seed) given how easy their schedule is. However, I just don't think that they're that good. Their defense definitely is suspect, and their offense probably is overrated. Just look at whom they've played so far. None of those wins are anything to write home about other than San Diego.

you should change that Cutler could choke to Cutler will choke.
I wouldn't call the texans best team in NFL just because i dislike teams who defense is considered good when it uses the blitz as much as they do.
I would call them best in the AFC just because there is only a few teams you have to consider them beating to be best in AFC
I mean off what I've seen it's really just texans, ravens, patriots for AFC's best.

I like home teams this week, except I think Indy is going to beat the Jets, Jets offense is god awful.
edit: and now that the rest of the games are in I also like New England over Seattle, even though that place is tough to play for visiting teams I just dont see Wilson matching Brady. also Skins over the vikings is probably an upset, but it's a homer pick even if RG3 plays (sounds like he will) it's going to be really hard.
also I never vote against Peyton Manning on Monday night football, his record is like 11-2 or something on Monday night games.

I picked: Pittsburgh-Atlanta-Jets-Detroit-Miami-Cleveland-KC-Baltimore-Arizona-Seattle-San Francisco-Minnesota-Green Bay-San Diego

So I have kinda a goofy week in my WR corps. I need to choose 3: Andre Johnson vs. GB Hakeem Nicks @ SF Torrey Smith vs. DAL Pierre Garcon vs. MIN Andrew Hawkins @ CLE
Standard scoring, no PPR.
Currently, I'm thinking Johnson, Garcon (because he gets a ton of targets), and Hawkins (for the matchup). Also Nicks is hurt and Smith has a pretty rough matchup. Is it worth starting Garcon and Hawkins over Smith?
Also, you have to put Chicago into the list of top teams right now. Their defense is way too good not to put them in the top tier.
|
Garcon is a hard pick against minnesota. hes going to get pass's thrown at him but RG3 might not be 100% and hes going to be under a lot of pressure without a solid run game to fall back on.

SL, how much of the Ravens is Cam Cameron vs Joe Flacco
Yeah, certainly Cam Cameron's play calling is very questionable at times. I'd definitely agree with that. The thing is, Cameron isn't the one overthrowing wide open WR's in clutch situations, Flacco is.

Hmm, should I play Alfred Morris vs the really good Vikings run D or should I play Mendenhall vs the pretty bad Titans on short rest? Morris is the man but it's one hell of a tough matchup and if RG3 is out I don't know what to think.
These RBs coming back and kicking ass after blowing up their knees the year before is really going against what the "experts" were saying coming into this year.

I'm not sold on the Bears yet. Their offense is suspect until they beat a defense that knows how to play them. I think I've said enough on my questions on the Bears, but they're very suspect. The guy below this post said something about not including the Falcons if you include the Bears, and the difference between the two teams is that the Bears start slow, and then bitch slap the opponent into submission, where as the Falcons are squeaking past shitty opponents.
The Broncos are a good team, but they're playing poorly at times, and it's costing them. They're dominating fourth quarters, but they play so badly in the first half that they're unable to win.

The way he's choked the last two years? He got the Bears to the AFC Championship two years ago, then got injured. Last year, he had the Bears at 7-3 with the worst OLine in football, and no WR's to throw the ball to, being talked about as a team to watch out for, then got injured. He has bad games, and makes really stupid throws sometimes, but he's not exactly a choke artist the way you're making him seem.
A defense is good if it stops the opponent. Do you not consider the 2000's Ravens defenses good? Because they blitzed a lot of the time, especially the dominant defenses that Rex Ryan dreamt up. Exotic blitzes defined the Ravens D under Rex. Blitzing defenses are bad when they're like the Saints, and are A) required to blitz to generate any pressure, and B) still give up a ton of points despite their blitzing. The Texans aren't either of those. I'd be interested to see the stats of their defense on how often they're sending 5+ defenders, since blitzes are so commonly used in a 3-4 scheme anyway. I bet it's not that often.

I agree with this completely. The only team that they've beaten with any pedigree is the 49'ers and I honestly think if they played 10 times SF would win 8 or 9. Their lines are really good but the backfields are weak and have to play nearly perfectly without turnovers to win against quality opponents. Chicago is looking like really strong in the North, still give them the edge until GB figures out what the heck its doing on D.

I believe Dallas will take Baltimore and the Giants will beat the 9'ers this week. I don't think Smith will be able to hang with the Giants' pressure up front and Manning will be able to move the ball enough to put points on the board.
