Redskins apparently traded the #6 overall, two future first round picks, and more later round picks for St. Louis's #2 pick.

3 first rounders and more to move up 4 spots...holy crap.

First rounders in 2012, '13 and '14 and a second-round pick this year to the Rams.

They really wanted to make sure the Vikings/Browns didn't get RG3, haha.

Way too much to give up IMO, especially considering the Redskins likely pick in the top 10 for the next two years.

Snyder saw the trade the Falcons made last year for a #2 receiver and knew he could outdo it.

This could be worse than when the Saints gave every pick in the draft for Ricky Williams.

Well, I guess I gotta weigh in as the few Skins fans here.

Meh, I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. I like it overall.

I would've been fine with 1,2,3 + 1 next year or possibly (supposedly 3 is like a 2 next year and then 1 the year after so it seems ok) and the trade value chart is out the window b/c of the rookie wage scale.

If Shanahan thinks they can coach him up to All Pro level then it's fine. We still have:

2012: Griffin + 3,4,4,5,6,7 (campbell 4th) and possibly a 7th conditional
2013: 2,3,4,5,5,6,7 (haynesworth 5th)
2014: 2,3,4,5,6,7
Rest full drafts

And around 50 million in cap room so it seems like it will be OK.... just need to hit on draft picks, and sign more FAs as depth instead of drafting them.

So if you look at it from a global perspective it's not as horrible as most of your are making it seem. If he actually develops into a franchise QB it's a bargain tbh.

Worst case scenario is we finish 4th in the East... which we have for the past 3 seasons so.... what's different?

If he's mediocre, we go with him for 3-4 years and by then we'll figure out he's not the answer and then we will have our 1sts back by then.

If he's great/franchise level, well, then it would be considered a bargain.

So it's a gamble, but a well thought out gamble. I like it overall. I don't like the compensation, but if there were 3 other teams bidding and the brown's did offer 3 1sts then I would say that the trade is great from our side.

I mean, who else are we going to get in free agency for our QB?

BTW, last threads sig bet (with whoever that was) -- 9 of our starters went down to injury so it was moot. T-T

As a Redskins fan, i am ambivalent about the trade. One thing to first point out is that the trade is giving up 2 first rounders, not 3, as the pick given up this year is a swap. The thing that is unsettling for me in this trade is the 2nd rounder in this upcoming draft, as that pick was needed to either help solidify the Oline, receiving corp, or get a cornerback.

Luckily the Redskins have the 4th highest cap space so i expect them to make some splashes in free agency. This trade, although gives up alot, is better than another year of journeyman-interception-fumble-machine/played-3-games-and-sucked quarterbacking. RG III is smart, fast, confident, and has an arm. He will pick up the system Shanahan has in place quickly, and will have his legs to fall back on. The more i think about it the more i don't care how much they gave up. Time to roll the dice on someone that has an upside.

Fun fact: John Beck had Roy Helu break the franchise record for completions in a game by throwing so many checkdown passes, a record previously held by Art Monk, a record that previously meant something and now doesn't.

I would be so happy if the Jags get Blackmon at the #7 spot.

I can hope right? :<

yeah it doesn't seem like this is a s all in or nothing as it appears. if rg3 is a total flunk then they'll get set back a couple of years but at least he's one hell of a promising prospect go bet on.

wonder how the rams are gonna do with 2 more 1st rounders and a second rounder. this could really turn that franchise around

but man if rg3 turns out to be as promising as cam newton was in his rookie year they'll be hella happy to give that up.

As a Rams fan, I'm extremely pleased with the trade. I have full faith in Bradford coming back and having a great season, he just needs more weapons. This move allows the Rams to move down to either get Kalil or Blackmon with the Redskins' pick. The redskins are banking on RG3 big time lol.

Wouldn't you do the same if option #2 was Rex Grossman?

Not as big of a gamble as most people think... see above analysis.

Though I don't think Blackmon or Kalil will drop to the 6th....

Indy - Luck
Skins - RG3
Minny - Kalil most likely
Browns - Blackmon is my probable bet to grab a weapon for McCoy/Flynn if they sign him. Else, could be Richardson.
Tampa - Claiborne

I would think Richardson is most likely to fall to you guys though as WR seems to be more important in this league now and you can usually get gems for late round RBs now.

If Blackmon falls you take him..., if Richardson falls I would guess you guys would want to trade back.

There's a double hit if RG3 turns to be a bust though.
Not only will you not have a franchise QB, you'll also have blown any chance of getting one in the next 2 seasons.
And you could be giving away very high 1st round picks for nothing.

No that trade is awful hahahah

That is a huge gamble. Even if he turns out to be pretty good, they've very much torpedoed their chances of getting immediate help from a good young player unless they strike gold in the next two drafts that follow. At worst, RG3 is terrible and they don't have the means to draft someone who has franchise potential early on.

I don't think I need to start talking about the Skins and their recent 'success' in free agency

Personally, I am intrigued by RG3 and think he can be decent if placed in a good system. The kid put up solid numbers even when he played oklahoma, texas etc. I just really doubt that is anything the Skins have atm.

Seems like a HUGE risk to nerf your team that much by giving so much for RG3. He definately has the physical attributes to become great but if he doesent pan out Skins are fucked for awhile. They probably think that with big cap space they can fill in the blanks with free agents but is there enough talent available.
Seems to me like a total all in building around RG3 and way too risky.

The thing is all those 1st rounders are likely to be top 10 picks. Even with Cam Newton having one of the best rookie seasons in NFL history, the Panthers still ended up picking in the top 10; if RG3 performs at the absolute highest level, the Redskins will still likely end up picking in the top 10. The Panthers's are arguably better all around than the Redskins too.

The Redskins gave up by far the most anyone has ever given up for a draft pick and they didn't even get to pick the QB of their choice. They only get whichever one Indianapolis passes on...

It was a great, great trade for St. Louis who gained a boatload of high picks and lost basically nothing from their standpoint.
