I don't think Chase Daniel is a bad backup QB. The team will not win more than 4 games if Brees is not QB.

I anticipate Brees getting paid big money once Manning's contract is sorted out.

From a business standpoint, regardless of how good Brees is, you're not going to pay him at the old contract standard when it's likely that overall QB contracts will go down. The franchise tag this year will be costly, but it's likely (considering Roethlisbergr's salary taking a pay-cut and Manning going to be playing for much less money than he did pre-injury) that Brees is signed for less than he would've been if they just tossed a "max" contract at him now.

Tony Dungy is apparently relating a hit Peyton Manning took from the Washington Redskins to the beginnings of his neck problems. This hit looks pretty similar to some of the hits Favre took in the Saints/Vikings championship game. Three guesses who the DC was.

I've never been a Gregg Williams fan, hopefully they ban him from the NFL.

Looks like the Skins might get fucked by this too, probably the Titans and forget what other teams GW was prominent on.

I just realized.

GW was the Defensive Coordinator and had his bounty hunter system in place when the Skins first injured Peyton....

Truthfully, I dont think anyone is going to get fucked by this. I fully expect to see the NFL to try and sweep this under the rug and run with whatever the next big story is that comes out.

Edit - I should add to this, I expect this to get swpet under the rug because this is not solely a Gregg Williams issue. This sort of program has existed in the NFL for a long time and it has occurred with many teams, that much becomes apparent listening to current and retired players talking about the programs they played in. That said, Gregg Williams may take the fall for it, but that would just be to placiate the masses and certainly not for player safety concerns.

I agree with you, though I still see the punishment being severe.

Goodell has gone out of his way to punish players over violent hits, and to try to protect player safety in the league. He sends too much of a mixed message if a coach caught encouraging intent to injure isn't punish severely. Given that Williams has brought this behavior to multiple different teams (and the ramifications of his actions on some fantastic QB careers - Manning, Favre, Warner) I can't see a scenario where he isn't crucified for this.

The real question is what penalties, if any, the Saints face. Apparently this bounty system will mean both the Saints and Redskins have violated their salary cap in previous years, which will equal harsh fines. This may go quite poorly for New Orleans- who seems to be getting the brunt of the Williams guilt association- probably because unlike other Gregg Williams teams, they actually won.

Boo fucking hoo. Once again this sickens me on how pathetic this leagues stance has gotten on physical nature of the game. Players suit up every game knowing any errant, fluke hit could end their careers. They take that risk because they are paid millions of $. Take a look at the hits from any Greg WIlliams led defensive team and you will see they aren't any worse or flagrant than any other team in the NFL. This is completely blown out of proportional simply because of the usage of the word "bounty" and heads will roll simply becasue Goodell is going to please to stupid masses who want retribution.

I agree with what you said. In addition, many retired players are suing the NFL right now. It's pretty much a legal requirement to show they are serious to protecting player safety as much as possible. These kinds of things usually follow the reasonable person standard.

Williams was the coordinator for the Saints the past few years. Possible statue of limitations in the league's code of conduct and availability of evidence are why they're getting the brunt of it.

Uhhhh no. Players suit up every game knowing that they'll get hit by other players trying to make a play. There is a big difference between being hit by a guy trying to make a play, or even trying to hit you hard (I certainly enjoyed it in high school), and a guy trying to hurt you. A HUGE difference.

I don't think the punishments will be as severe as everyone is touting, but this is a serious issue. Providing monetary incentives to hurt other players will never be good for the sport. Neither will creating rules that remove all physical contact, but there is a happy medium in there that honestly shouldn't be that hard to find.

It's pretty fucking bad. Sure football is a really violent sport and people are basically out to crush each other every play, but you can definitely go overboard sometimes, and I'm sure a bounty could drive some people to push it a bit too far.

I dunno, i guess in practice it really isn't the most crazy thing, but just the principle of it is pretty barbaric.

The news about the saints offering a bounty on knocking brett farve out of the game a couple years ago is making me really bitter about it all. No one watching that game could say those where fair hits to expect in a physical game and they where all gunning for some extra cash to hurt a guy trying to live out his dreams once more. hope brees leaves New Orleans and goes to a shitty team that will offer him the cash he thinks he wants.

No it isn't. The team's been good for 3 years and we're suddenly on a crash course to being laughingstocks of the league again like the previous 40 years.

The organization lowballing the only relevant player in the team's entire history is sickening and disrespectful on top of an already shitty situation they let go under their watch. It's pathetic and painful as a fan.

Team is basically saying "fuck you" to the star player which gave them their first Super Bowl Ring, and now he's pissed off? A player who has made it quite known he wants out in recent history and doing stuff like this only makes him want to leave more?

That's the "so"

Call me messed up, but that's why it's so fucking funny. They have this huge burst of success, and I was personally very happy for them -- but they find a way to fuck it all up with this Bounty scandal AND pissing off their star QB.

Good ol' Aints. I truly do feel sorry for the genuine fans out there, but how long did you think this would last? I just hope that front office can pull their shit together.

I was actually more or less indifferent about all this until I heard Greg William's bounty system was in place when Peyton had his neck hurt the first time. That really pissed me off. I dunno about the rest of them, but a coach letting this kind of shit happen is just disgraceful to the league.

It's only funny when it's not happening to your team. This is the worst offseason in the team's history and it's only going to get worse once Colston and Nicks leave.

I hate every single person who calls my team the Aints.

Interesting to hear that Brees is thought of as the only relevant Saint by a Saints fan.

I know they were never "God tier" like Brees is at QB currently, but I always thought very highly of Deuce McAllister and Joe Horn. I thought they were two guys that were very solid, and deserve a reputation they'd probably have had they gotten to play for just about anybody other than those old Saints teams.

Those are relevant to the Saints themselves. So is Morten Andersen and Archie Manning, but they aren't all time greats like Brees. The only other all time greats the Saints have ever had who are KNOWN as Saints are Willie Roaf (and even then people don't care enough to glorify Offensive Linemen) and Rickey Jackson, but I bet most of you don't know who he is (one of the best OLBs ever, but wasted most of his years on terrible saints teams that couldn't win a playoff game. Went over to the 49ers to finally win a ring).

There's no Hall of Very Solid, no matter how much we love Deuce (Joe Horn was a fucking tool and I hate him)

Yeah this is pretty huge news, feel sorry for saints fans I'm just glad Greg Williams chose to go to the saints and not Green Bay. We ended up with Capers and for that I am thankful
