*shameless bump*
Come on people, I didn't make this post so it can be ignored
I spent a good 30+ hours on this game and really enjoyed myself. It definitely has a lot of potential. IMO it deserves some attention.

What's new in Super besides being free?

Dude...you have no idea how awesome this is to people who are super financially conservative.

They will also be supporting the game with free content updates that add Characters, Maps, Gameplay Modes and more.
If you have the time, watch that Quick Look in the Videos section I posted. The developers talk about pretty much everything in that video.

Seems interesting. May check it out next time I need something new to play.

Holy crap! I love Monday Night Combat, and this sounds like a great way to move the franchise. Very very very excited for this now, thanks for posting it
|
I wasn't blown away by the game, in it's first iteration, but it was very very solid. I like the concept and I was really sad that it didn't get more attention.
I'm really hoping that this one is successful as the developers deserve it. They've obviously put a lot of work into creating a very lighthearted and fun game.
|
Nice! I just got into the "Invitational" haha :D excited to play some!
|
I liked MNC, but yeah, some of the moves were so overpowered. Was definitely fun, but really not worth more than a week of play. The F2P thing is a good move, but feels like a gimmick or something that won't really make it all the more worthwhile.

I recently played one of the best/worst matches ever:
My team was getting dominated pretty hard, the top 2 players' stats of the enemy team were 10+ kills, 0-1 deaths, 5+ assists. While I was the best player on my team and had 5 kills, 4 deaths, 4 assists. As soon as I saved up $4000 for one of those big robots I bought it and pushed the left lane. And what do I see when I get to the enemy base? There's NO ONE there! It's completely undefended! So I just get into turret mode (I was playing the Gunner) and together with that robot I destroyed their entire base, winning the match for my team. After the the game everyone in chat was like "WTF!!? WHAT HAPPENED?"
I spent at least 3 minutes giggling to myself. That match made my day!
And it's not like their loss was undeserved. The game is very good at notifying you when your base takes damage and you can also see the status of each lane on the UI. They definitely could have stopped that. I have no clue why they didn't.

I have 72 hours of MNC logged on my steam account, loved the shit out of that game - would've played it a lot more if not for some crashing issues. Getting a beta key would definitely be neat, Terr are you in the beta? Because I can't gather from your posts if you're playing SMNC or regular MNC... and if you are what do the new classes do?
|
Yeah, I'm in the Beta. I've heard of MNC before, but I didn't play it until SMNC.
I can't tell for sure because I didn't play MNC, but there's at least 1 new class in each class category( Commando, Striker, Enforcer, Sharp Shooter, Defender) The new classes definitely are interesting, check out that Quick Look in the Video section above to see them.
There are 13 classes in total and Uber Said They'll be adding one more (A Striker) in the coming weeks.

I got into the beta last week and I have to say it sucks at first, but once you get a better understanding it's pretty damn fun. I don't think it will ever be some major esports title but it's a blast to play with a group of friends. The only major flaw so far is that you can't queue as a group unless you have 3+ people. So if you and a friend want to play on the same team you have to find some random pubbie in chat that's willing to queue with you.
I generally play combat girl and have the most success but lately I've been mastering capt. spark.. melee heros are extremely frustrating or extremely rewarding depending on how the game is going.
PS I have another invite to give out if anyone wants to trade for diablo 3 access. (Yes, this is a pathetic long shot that doesn't really belong in the thread.)

Finally got beta access, and after getting used to the changes from MNC I'm starting to get really into the game. There's a funny bug where if you queue as a team, you get put on different teams, and thus get play vs the people you queued with. They also need to add some kind of MMR, because from what I can gather the quick match button randomly throws people together.
Other than that the actual gameplay is quite solid, but tbh I kind of miss the original MNC vibe which was more FPS less DotA.

It's already in the OP read the spoiler tags

I've had similar experiences with a lot of games. For example, when I first played Tribes: Ascend I couldn't help but think "Maybe this game isn't for me" but I stuck with it and now I love it, same with Super MNC. Sometimes you just gotta give a game a second chance. And Super MNC at its current state isn't really finished I bet Uber will improve it a lot in the future. They are already doing so at a pretty solid rate.
PS I've updated the main post. I hope it's a bit better now.

I'm @ 56% download atm for beta. Super excited to try this out and hopefully I won't drag my team down too bad for my first match.
I'm not sure how many of you TLers out there have played vanilla MNC before but it was actually a lot of fun especially for a Xbox live arcade title. I watched the whole interview thing the other day and I gotta say it looks like quite an impressive and fun re-imagining of the game. I'll probably edit this after playing it a bit tonight, can't wait!!
|
I just received 2 Super MNC Beta Invites on Steam. If anyone wants one PM me your email address so I can send it to you.
I'll update this post when they are gone for clarity.
Edit: They are gone! Ettick and Mtndrew got them!

I got into the beta two days before release. Yay? I still haven't played it yet anyway but it's probably decent like MNC was.

I tried this game out, but the queue times were insane, and it was really hectic, not really sure what was going on.
|
TBone, the video above should clear up some things.
The 3 most important things in the game are: -Killing bots -Not dying -Making sure the enemy team doesn't get the annihilator.
You can grapple people with the right mouse button on your secondary weapon. Getting grappled can be pretty frustrating but once you get the hang of it, it's very fun and tactical.
Other than that you can click Play>Training Camp to play on a map that is designed to introduce new players to the game.
Matchmaking is still being worked on, you can reduce waiting times by playing on more popular regions.

I've been playing it a bit, and I'm not too sure about it. The graphics are nice and the concept is cool, but I'm just not enjoying it at all. It feels so random, suddenly you just stop hurting your opponents at all and get completely stomped, there's pretty much nothing you can do about a decent minigun-dude and healer playing together unless your team actually does something about it.
Maybe my aim is just terrible, but I feel like it often doesn't register when I hit, and some weapons just do almost zero damage even when you've maxed offense. Maybe people just have really good endorsements or something, but I find it almost impossible to get kills unless I play assault or rocketlauncher-lady and get a few nice splashes into a group of enemies already at low health. Even with a ton of bot kills and no deaths, I find the game just escalate after a certain point where the enemy team becomes impossible to stop.

Bullet weapons seem to have an effective range, the further you are the less damage you do.
|
Tobberoth, perhaps you feel like it's random because you are often not aware where the enemy team is and you just get ganked. And levels also play a huge role, if you let the other team get ahead by killing more bots and killing players they'll become a lot more powerful than you.
I've played for 200+ hours so far personally never felt like something is unfair. Usually when I get together with the people I play with we win 95% of the time, which goes to say that teamwork, is in fact, OP. Which is why it can be frustrating when your team doesn't work together.

Played this game the last 2 days. Was really impressed with it. Very fun free to play game.

Picked up this game on steam about 2-3 weeks ago... and since then I've sank 100+ hours into it. It seems like people have a few MAJOR misconceptions about this game that lead to bad reviews and quitting early.
1. It is NOT a FPS. If you are a beginner and are just trying to kill the enemy team members, DON'T!!! Kill bots!
2. Know the annihilator locations / times on EVERY MAP!!! This is the SINGLE most frustrating thing when new players simply ignore it. It is the most important element in each match, and if your team loses it consistently, it's almost a guaranteed loss (not always, if you know what you are doing)
3. DON'T OVER-EXTEND. Stay back with your teammates. This is NOT a Rambo FPS where you run and gun people down. It is a tactical TEAM arena game, and sticking with allies will benefit your team.
4. Don't be greedy. It's MUCH better to go 2-1 (kill / death) then it is to go 15-13. The reason for this is when you die the other team gets money. Even though you are killing people, it is MUCH better to starve them of those resources then to be all gun-ho and go for a million kills / deaths.
5. Spend your money. Spawning bots is very important. Bouncer bots cost 1,000 and are crucial in lane pushing, and can even net you a few kills here and there. You can also use your cash at pads to refill your health, increase your speed, and refill your juice bar. You should NEVER have more then 2,000 coins on hand at any given time UNLESS it is late in the game and you are saving for a jack-bot (4,000)
6. Know your role. There are 5 distinct class archetypes in SMNC, and each follows a similar role. For instance, if you are a Support class, don't run up into the jungle solo trying to gank kills. Your team NEEDS you to place turrets, launch airstrikes, heal allies, and when the time is right they need you to pump some shotgun shells into an enemy that is getting too close. Knowing your role is the KEY to victory in this game. Try different classes until you find one that suits your playstyle... but for the LOVE OF GOD don't cry imbalance and quit the game because you rolled Support and went 1-8.
I'm sure there is more... but these are the major annoyances I have with new players. This game is quite balanced at a high level of play, so don't blame the other team having an OP character when you are losing. Look at what you are doing and how you could be doing it better.
The developers are also AWESOME. They are totally active on the forums and generally take a lot of input from the players, which is great because a transparent / active dev team means they are truly committed to making the game that the people want to play.
This game has a LOT of potential... and the user base has been growing at quite a rapid rate since public release on steam. Given time, I honestly think this game has potential to become a popular E-Sport (with the right funding). There are already tournaments being held that are 100% sponsored by the developers.
9.5/10 overall.... only thing that could use some work is matchmaking. The queue times are FINE so whoever was whining about that has ADHD and needs to take their adderall. I've never waited for longer then 2 minutes in queue. The problem with matchmaking is that there are a TON of new players, and to fill game lobbies the servers place new people on team with experienced veterans to the game. For instance, I have over 200 games played on SMNC... and I STILL get matched with 1st time players. This in and of itself is extremely frustrating... and the game would of received a solid 10/10 from me if this issue wasn't as severe.
|
Yeah, I agree with pretty much everything you said.
Also something I really like is that Uber does major patches every single week, which really makes the game feel always new and exciting.
|
Anyone still playing this? I downloaded it on Friday and put in about 15 hours this weekend and enjoyed every minute. I will say that much like DOTA, having teammates that communicate and work together makes it a helluva lot more fun, but even PUGs have been entertaining. Few things are as fun as sneaking up behind enemy lines and sending 3 enemy pros flying off the stage with a well timed hit on their ejector.

Played and really disliked the game when I could just play a game like dota 2, but your article really sells it, I will almost for sure have to try it again.

I loved MNC and have been playing SMNC on and off for a while now. The game has an amazing level of dumb that is so refreshing. The Roller-derby-rocket-japan-punkrocker is my new favorite. The maps have gotten much better and there are more options. I need a solid group to team up with, however, because the people I have been matched with have been super questionable.
If people are still playing this, please let me know. We could link up through Stream Friends and be one of the few arranged teams out there.
