how are people picking Bisping over Sonnen? I don't get it... Sonnen has good enough stand-up to daze Silva, probably the best wrestling in his division and except one loss due to a cut, he's only been defeated by submissions - which Bisping isn't going to threaten him with at all. | ||

However, I have a sneaking feeling that Sonnen has been working double time on defending submissions, especially the infamous triangle choke. I just counted the votes. It is not that a lot of people are thinking Bisping will win to be honest. 28 People think Sonnen will win, and only 5 people think Bisping will win. It could also be a strategic vote, if there will be an upset, they will get an advantage... I do think Sonnen will win, but I don't think it will be the upset of the century if Bisping manages to take the win... Bisping is a solid fighter, has only lost 3 matches and has only been KO'd 1 time in his life... You shouldn't count him out that fast. | ||

The only thing Sonnen really needs to do to defend the submissions of people like Bisping or even Silva, is to fucking pass guard. He seems happy to sit between a guy's legs for entire fights, which is extremely stupid - especially considering how good he is at maintaining back control etc without even getting hooks in. That said, Bisping is very good at getting back up, but I doubt it'll be enough against Sonnen. | ||

I think a lot of it with Sonnen was that he was so content to lay in guard and throw a LOT of punches from there, and he'd actually even press down on the opponents chest with his hands and forearms instead of keeping them in tight, which of course is an invitation to get arm barred or triangled if given enough time. That didn't apply so much to Demian Maia as Maia really set it up from a throw, but that's what happened vs Filho and Silva, among others (even Forrest Griffin rofl). Against Brian Stann, he took every opportunity to pass (and eventually set up a submission), which if he does more often here on out, he'll get caught in those submissions a lot less. However, Stann doesn't have great grappling from the bottom himself, so it's hard to say. | ||
