(Bobcats) Occasionally, in a single game between some of the greatest college teams of all time (a couple of Duke, UCLA, UNC, MSU, UM, UH, UNLV teams) against the worst NBA teams, they might have a shot at it. Every college team is ailing on the bench so they have zero shot of a series, but if Phi Slamma Jamma or young Jordan/Worthy get hot in a single game, I don't see why they couldn't. Not every college team would be lacking size and the best obviously had at least 1 player who was NBA All-Star ready.
Endurance and defense would be the biggest issues, but NBA stars have off nights and the second best player on some NBA teams is not better than the best player on some college teams.
It's certainly not as bad as it would be in football. Keep in mind that the USA developmental team (filled with college kids) is the only team to beat the 92 Dream Team in a scrimmage.

Remember that the typical NBA scrub was one of the best players in college. Even top lottery picks aren't All-Star level, as in any given draft finding 3+ All-Stars would be a major stretch. Finding them at a All-Star level while in college is extremely rare.
Even Kentucky would have major issues, as their best players at the moment have no shot of even competing against the average NBA player at their position unless they are literally a once a blue talent. Now the Jordan/Worthy, Fab 5, and Phi Slamma Jamma teams MIGHT have had a shot. Might have. Because even young MJ when surrounded with NBA level talent struggled mightily his first few years in the league. Surrounding him with James Worthy and college talent isn't going to be better at all. The only team I'd give a shot to, ignoring the bench, is the Fab 5 because that was one of the most unique college teams in history. Of course, they lost to a college team in the tournament so I'm not giving them a major chance anyway.

Indeed, but NBA players have off nights because they are playing 82 games a season with 2-3 months of rest and conditioning in between. College players aren't even in the same ballpark of the load they have to endure. If you let an NBA team get a week or two of rest, and play a college team I don't think it's going to matter much: An off night for an NBA star would be a career night for everyone in college except the top 1%. As an aside, Kemba Walker dominated the NCAA tournament and was hands down one the best players in college. In the NBA he's barely a blip on the radar. You put him back in college and even when surrounded by inferior talent he will destroy everyone. For an even better idea look at the rising stars challenge with all those young players in the league: lots of them the top of the top from their college conferences and most of them aren't even able to make a dent in the games they play. It takes time to be "ready" in the NBA even for the very best, and asking a bunch of college players to even approach that is a duanting task. Anthony Davis, Michal Kidd-Gilchrist, Harrison Barnes - put them in the NBA right now and unless it's a lottery team they are coming off the bench.
It's certainly not as bad as it would be in football. Keep in mind that the USA developmental team (filled with college kids) is the only team to beat the 92 Dream Team in a scrimmage.
Yep, because the Dream Team was clowning around. Did you hear about what happened the next time they scrimmaged? It's really, really bad. The gap between the top college teams, and even an All-Star team loaded with the top college players and the worst NBA teams is sizeable. Remember in 2010 when the top college players scrimmaged against USA basketball and reports were that the guards couldn't even get the ball across half court because Rondo and Westbrook just shut them down. Unless you get insanely lucky and get the 84, 96, or 2003 draft class (sans Lebron) the chances of beating the worst NBA teams is extremely hard.

Young Jordan didn't really struggle in the NBA. He immediately got the Bulls 11 more wins and into the playoffs and put up incredible numbers, and then they sucked the next year when he was injured.
I don't think this Kentucky would have a chance. I'm only talking about the most talented college teams of all time. Maybe Jordan/Worthy Heels or Fab Five against... 1992 Mavericks. That team was rookie Jimmy Jackson and Derek Harper, and a few guys who scored 15ppg in minor conferences. Maybe even VC's UNC or the 2010 Kentucky. I'm not giving them 50/50 odds, maybe 1/5.

I should reword that. The Bulls struggled, and MJ struggled to achieve much team success even though he had better talent than at North Carolina. I still think Fab 5 is the best bet since at 3 positions you had NBA level guys who were at the very least starter worthy, and Webber who was a lock for All-Star level.

I think the best college teams have a shot at beating the worst NBA teams, obviously not routinely but at a decent clip, because you forget that a lot of shitty NBA teams have rosters stocked with aging, useless players and Europeans who have no business being in the NBA.

oh now you did it, you are going to piss of a lot of Euroleague fans.

I've actually heard the opposite of Ace. I mean, I'm not claiming to know NBA players but I have heard that tons of guys have the physical capacity to play in the NBA, they're just dumb and can't work together. Like they can't be coached, they don't know how to run plays, they have no idea where to go or where to stand.
Not in the minutia of detail, but literally, they are in the completely wrong side of the court. It's not that they went over the screen when they should have been under but that they don't know what their coach means by over/under.
Anyways, that's just what I've been told.

I think if you had to win one game, you could force those college starters to play 48 minutes.

Well they can't be pissed everytime they come across a biased idiot, or they would not be on basketball forums anymore.
It's just funny to read this kind of thing though, I'd argue that there are many more American scrubs who don't deserve to be there. European players have to work twice as hard to get there, and even when they do they're underrated and often underused.
Euroleague teams have beaten NBA teams on several occasions by the way. The top Euroleague teams are better than half the Eastern conference (and that's coming from someone who actually watches both leagues).

looking like another mike brown meltdown

gsw got no allstars but their games always so exciting

Damn Kobe. He's been cold, but he just makes shots when he needs too.

Kobe Doing Work, good little documentary btw. World Peace was working hard on the defensive side tonight always like to watch him play. Took more shots than i would like to see but still a great job.
