I had it 7-5 for Marquez. It was amazing seeing the 38 year old lightweight setting traps, not getting caught on the ropes, punishing Pacquiao for being reckless, etc. This fight is somewhat proof that Pacquiao has been spoon-fed fighters talior-made for his style (and why Arum won't let Pacquiao in with Mayweather). Come May 5, 2012, if Arum and Pacquiao have the balls to take on Mayweather, Money is going to beat the breaks off Pacman. You can take that to the bank.

It basically went like every other JMM/Pac fight without knockdowns

Marquez lands more and is more accurate but his punch output is lower and is seen as less active so Pac gets rounds he does not deserve.

In my eyes he absolutely won this fight

This fight was definitely a good lesson for me in how having a rooting interest can skew your perception of fight. I thought JMM won the fight easily last night. Now, I think he deserved a draw at minimum, and that the fight was close win for JMM.

That said, if anybody -- ever -- tells me that Mayweather is scared of Pacquiao and ducking the fight, I'll laugh. I'm not an expert, but at least in my opinion Mayweather could do everything Marquez did and much more. Floyd is lusting for this fight. That's my uneducated opinion, and frankly, I think I'm going to listen to that opinion much more often. Every fucking great fighter in the world seems to be a frankenstein brought to life by promoting hype machines trying to make money.

At this point I'm almost sure Mayweather Pacquiao will happen. If Manny loses, the fight becomes so much less interesting, and he's certainly not the force of nature everybody in the boxing world told me he was. At worst, we'll have JMM v MP 4 then the big fight.

If Manny ever gets introduced as #1 p4p again LOL!!!

marquez didn't fight well enough to deserve it anyway. i realize many posters in this thread seem to be watching their first championship fight, but you don't take the championship by running and turtling for 12 rounds like marquez did. it has never worked that way and close decisions will go to the reigning champion.

welcome to boxing.

Honestly with the hype pac gets, I am not surprised that the only way pac was gonna lose was if he was knocked out...

Anyways, this makes it easier for the pac // mw fight to go through.

I can see you don't know much about boxing. "Turtling" WTF boxing isn't starcraft so don't use these stupid analogies. marquez was setting traps moron, being on the backfoot circling to pacquiao's right, effectively taking out pacquiao's left hand (the hand he wins fights on). marquez put on a clinic and took pacquiao to school. perhaps you should watch more fights instead of saying "OMG FRONT FOOT AGRESSOR = WINZ"

heres what professional boxers (past and present) say on this issue (they are pretty much unanimous):

Marquez did enough to keep a title; not enough to take the title. Corner should press him for a knockdown

I had it 115-113 for Manny but it was realy close one. I think Marquez's corner pretty much lost this match for him by telling him that he was leading before last round. I realy think Marquez would have won last round if he had actually fight Manny. He seemed to be better shape at that moment. I think many consider this match to been unjust because Marquez won he's rounds much more convincingly and seemed more powerfull overall but in the end boxing is judged by who wins most of the rounds and in my mind Manny won more but was a close one. In the end this should have been 15 rounds long. 12 just isn't enough to make a clear difference between these two.

This happens often when orthodox and southpaw fights are matched since the foot positioning is pretty awkward they tend to step on one another's foot.

for all you guys hating on manny and calling this corruption, if it is actual corruption then floyd mayweather's 40+ wins to 0 losses is also fluke. what's even more suspect is floyd's perfect record, dont' give me that crap about corruption in this fight if you're not going to suspect floyd of cheating his way into a perfect record cause i doubt anyone can attain a perfect record not pushing the pace.

Ignorance is bliss.

I haven't seen the fight, but by judging from peoples opinions I'm very dissapointed that Marquez didn't get his dews.
It was bad enough in their second fight man

Welcome to the wonderful world of boxing.

Sure, there are many stories out there about promoters picking the fights to build-up their fighters. You could make valid arguments for many fighters and there would be a lot of substance there.

With that said, this was Pacman's third tango with the chap. I'm sure if he didn't like the match-up he wouldn't support another. Got to love all the controversy.

I'm really not surprised by the result.

There's a valid reason as to why promotions like the UFC want to re-do how matches are scored. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for Boxing. It is what it is. :/

thats right mayweather shouldve lost to Castillo, but he was under arum at the time and as we all know arum has a very big influence on the judges. with that said, i wasnt happy when he won that fight just like how im not happy with manny winning this one. actually, i think mayweather doesnt want to face manny because of this, if it goes to decision then manny will win since he is still under arum, meaning that putting manny down is the only way to win which cant be easy. btw have you even seen mayweather fight? it is possible to obtain a perfect record not pushing the pace lol (although MW shouldnt have one)

btw, mayweather is fighting again in feb and arum wants a pacquiao marquez IV. so we wont be getting mayweather pacquiao anytime soon. i think the only way for this fight to happen is for manny to leave arum tbh
