Highest level competition, you say? CS has enough elitism already, adding more won't improve the game.

I just did a write up about the current state of the beta with some of my opinions on it as well as some general information about the game itself. The game plays like Counterstrike. That may seem an odd statement, but to many I am sure it will be a relieve. It is an old school shooter, there is no perk system, no iron sights and none of the other modern-day first person shooter tropes. This may seem a step backwards but it in fact feels really refreshing to play. It feels very different to the other FPS’s available on the market. That being said, there is not a lot different to separate it from the previous games. Other than the graphical update, if you have tired of playing Counterstrike after 10+ years, there is not a great deal on offer here to bring you back into the fold. The game is being released on PC, PS3 and Xbox, it’ll be interesting to see if this game can find a home on consoles in amongst the Call of Duty’s and Halo’s. Full article I'm really looking forward to the full game, I hope they release a few more maps around launch time, as only having the 8 classic maps for competitive mode is a bit of a let down. No doubts the community will handle remakes and stuff (would love a CPL_Fire, favourite community map ever!) but I'm sure I read they were remaking Vostock (from CSX) and few others, but haven't seen or heard anything in months about new maps. They need to address the game sounds, and the SMG's IMO, after that the game is good to go. They'll probably tweak the recoil further, and address a few other things. So it is possible they could make summer launch if they pull their finger out, but Valve being Valve, I wouldn't put money on it.

I am streaming almost every night, playing ESEA pugs and the game overall runs fantastically. There are some glaring flaws, but thus far, and based upon the development so far (the patches that come every two weeks are so) it's going in a great direction.

The recoil is "different", as its a "different" game. If it was the same recoil as before, it would be boring. What would be the point of playing it? The ONLY problem with recoil now is that the spraying doesn't seem to reg 100%, it's just... "different" at the moment. Bursting and tapping is fantastic. The AWP is strong. Kinda always has been though, so no big deal there. Not to mention its expensive with only 50+ dollars on kills instead of 300, so you really get punished if you don't perform well or they counter your AWP.

Also if anyone wants to throw one my way, I've got nothing to give for it but eternal thanks ![]() Really excited to see how the game ends up though, I would love to CS get back to it's glory days.

Don't get too emotional. Lots of competitive players are optimistic about the direction and say it's already better than source overall. Clearly it's getting better fast, and it will never be identical to your perfect ideal, but it likely will be the next great FPS esport. It has much more hope than SC2 to improve and be as good as the original, to be honest. Movement seems almost there. Variables are identical to 1.6. Sound will get there. Recoil will get there. All that remains is maybe model sizes, some fresh maps, weapon/gear balance, and aesthetic tweaks like animations. From what I've gleaned, AK slight recoil increase p90 nerf (damage or recoil) he grenade buff (does almost nothing if you're wearing armor) nerf the negev maybe decrease flash effect length It should also be interesting since it seems more guns will be viable (tech9 as a half the price terrorist deagle alternative anyone?)

Valve has just announced the launch date of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive: August 21. A collaboration with Defense Grid developers Hidden Path, Valve also mentioned that CS:GO will cost $15 “on all platforms.” http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/06/04/counter-strike-go-release-date-is-august-21-15-price/ $15 seems reasonable to me. How about you?

Valve are apparently awesome. (Like we didn't know already) http://uk.ign.com/articles/2012/06/04/counter-strike-global-offensive-release-date-announced Even though I can't see them adding much more to the beta now (new maps etc) I can't wait for the full release.

Lool at $15 I guess I'm obliged to get this now. Edit: oh god, I totally forgot this is valve time, so what does that make it then, September 21st-ish for the release?
