My first CS download was 12Mb and I copied it to my PC on a stack of floppies. When I was 7 years old, I left my 56k connection on overnight to download Beta 6, which was about 52mb. First thing I did when I woke up in the morning was jump out of bed to install the mod. My first match was on cs_militia. Oh man, good times.

#1 Problem is the "feel" of the guns. That's what makes CS, CS. And that's why many people still prefer 1.6 to source. #2 Problem is the sound of the weapons. They just don't sound good. Of course it's beta so it's all subject to change, but yeah...not so hot so far.

And yeah, the purists might not like this idea, but introducing / experimenting with new ideas and concepts could be healthy for the game. Haha it was like that in CS beta. Half the CT team had kits the others just could not defuse the bomb (back then you couldn't defuse at all without a kit). EDIT: People should really read my blog http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?id=92762 So, I want to play some more on the weekend. Does anyone have any sources how to improve control / graphic config etc? Basically I want to turn everything shiny off and make it as bland as possible. And get more smooth control if that is possible, definitely didn't feel right when I played last night. So far I really have issues with how the crosshair moves around and changes, and I guess the recoil. I just can't hit shit. Also the models are too realistic, I want ugly skinny guys with huge heads. I don't mind the molotovs at all. Sounds are disappointing, but I can live with that as well. Probably more disappointing for the viewers. I always seem to have money. Is that casual mode? I could buy everything every round, always floating like 8k.

I really thought I was going to get one a few moments ago but alas, my ctrl+c, ctrl+v micro was too slow.

Playermodel height - they're too high which changes the proportions of all the maps No tagging - when you hit someone they don't stop, it promotes running and spraying Ragdolls - there's no animation for when you get a headshot, people just crumble with a ragdoll. In 1.6 you know instantly that you got a HS just from the animation. Looks like none of those things have been addressed =(

The deagle is still super spammy. It's only mildly about aiming now, at least compared to 1.6. Instead of there being a tiny little spot where the best players can consistently nail it, this feels like as long as the xhair is over their head, you'll get a headshot within a clip, even at mid and long range. I was usually getting headshots within 1 or 2 shots, and I'm extremely rusty at CS and even when I wasn't, deagle was probably my worst weapon. Actually, headshots with every weapon felt pretty easy. That's not a good thing, though. I don't have much to say about the nades- I was in a pub and didn't use them much. It seemed like fastswitch is forced on, so it's probably a good idea to start binding each nade. I bought them but aside from the Molotov, I had no idea what they were. EDIT: I agree with hating ragdoll. The fall back in 1.6 always seemed like the best animation of any game to me, and ragdolls just look silly and dumb. That's pretty subjective though. Oh, and crouching seems like it sucks. It may make your head even more prominent. The more I think about it, I don't think fixing the recoil is enough. The tapping was really effective which means the skill ceiling is much lower. Obviously there's still many other factors to competitive CS, but it seems like "insane aim" will no longer be a rare characteristic. It's similar to the difference in macro between BW and SC2, except that aiming is even more featured since it's the main part of the interface. For instance, watching old BW highlight videos isn't that exciting because macro is sort of an indirect process that you never really see, whereas aiming is front and center in CS highlight videos. It's the main skill people see (the BW equivalent is micro), so having it be so easy is especially detrimental. At the very least, it looks good and runs well. I hate the dust effects, mostly because when you're moving through them, you see a faint horizontal line at the top of the dust effect, and I always think it's a bullet whizzing by.
