Yo bois, need some ideas and input:
I'm currently thinking about my new build for the next beta-phase.
Since I played 1H pseudo-dualwield GS and 2H GS allready I'm inclined to make a caster. Because of Mapbosses hitting freaking hard one principle is that the character should be fairly tanky. The Reflect mechanic also gives more opportunities for spells that weren't playable due to mass-reflect oneshots.
My current skill of choice is Ice Nova. It allready did scale pretty well and had an extra ordinary clear-efficency cause of the massive AoE. The cold-aspect makes it pretty save if you freeze enough.
To address the increase in monster physical damage my passive tree looks like this:

Ice Nova + Spell echo + Life Leech + Increased AoE is the current idea.
For the 5th slot im very unsure.I never really played with Iron will so im very unsure if this gem is worth the slot. Increased Crit Dmg would be the choice if the gear is adequate for it. In best-case scenario I'm aiming at a Staff with +2(+3) and would love to generate some power charges via block (tho not too sure if its worth it to pick one useless point).
Edit: and with the current state of Frenzy Charges I kinda feel it is mandatory to aim to get the charges. So the LifeReg at 3% enables me to run Bloodrage in its current form with some investment into chaos res gear. With a reworked bloodrage (doing phys-dmg overtime) I gues this build would be equipped even better to run Bloodrage (174% armor inc and if 5L Staff the chest slot could be a high armor one)
Edit²: It is of course debateable if in endgame scenarios Carcass + 2x Divinarius(sacreficing armor) is better than Staves!

The 5th link is obviously Cold Pen. I'll put Cold Pen as 3rd link b4 Inc AOE tbh. Also with that setup I feel the dmg would be quite lacking. Ice Nova dmg is a-ok, it isn't great but due to great AOE the clr speed is quite good. However for single target it would be quite slow, like very slow ( may even be unable to kill 2-man hp regen rare level of slow with lesser gear ) especially if you decide to put a life leech gem there.
Take that out and use 2 catarina-crafted cold leech scepter/wand imo.
In order of priority imo link would be Ice nova + Spell echo + Cold pen + Faster casting + Inc AOE/Conc effect for packs/bosses.

Would any1 recommend building an Aura bot for the ruckus league?
Auras and hp?, should be easy to get an solaris ####3 ( cant remember name) .

Well for bosses I'd switch to glacial cascade if needed. I'm not the biggest fan of Cold Pen since it varies in effectivness very greatly but yea definatly a gem to consider. And you remembered me that I totally forgot about other leech ressources like catarina or jewels. Definatly need to think about it.
That the damage will be lacking compared to dps-builds is true. Currently tho it doesn't really feel like you need crazy dps to clear maps. My mara has a pretty awesome clearingspeed for 74+ considering he has still crappy gear (27-29k groundslam).
The way bigger problem is more often that mobs can occasionally be pretty scary in terms of their damage output. Would love to hear some expierence from someone who plays some squishier caster on high maps.

A lot of ppl I know relied on AA EB COD combo, freeze CWDT + IC combo to to protect them from burst, but now 2 out of 3 are gone so I'm on the same boat, not entirely sure what to do defensively as a self-caster tbh. Any idea would be greatly appreciated since totems are boring -.-

Lightning coil is still very strong. Even though EC is gone from the typical CWDT defensive combo, CWDT with IC + Increased Duration + enfeeble will still save you from a lot of burst damage. The new golems will help a lot, especially chaos golem with the damage reduction bonus. Also if you don't go totems, having a defensive totem like decoy totem or skeleton spell totem will help you safely tackle dangerous situations.
And regarding Cold Pen... not sure what you mean by it varies in effectiveness. Monsters can have negative resists. In the worst case scenario, it's still essentially a more modifier. In most situations though, 1% of penetration is worth more than a 1% more modifier.

hard to roll blue sockets on LC so its a pain
with good leech through ghost reaver EB/MoM is still possible but its not as effective as before as its really reliant on your leeching potential, meaning trap/totem/mine builds are out. and im not sure whether its any better than just simply going life/es hybrid

With the new EB: Do you need to leech mana or life?

Unless my understanding is wrong you can reserve all your mana, so you don't need mana leech. If you go Ghost Reaver you need Life Leech, if you go Zealoth's Oath you need Life regeneration and if you go neither you need Energy Shield on hit jewels.

So I take it you can't go MoM melee because you can only either leech life or ES and have no real way to up your mana pool to a decent level without EB? Should have done my build before this change....

I read that MoM takes damage from ES first if you have EB.
And yes ZO works with EB.

On live or beta?
if it's live, transmute+alt the map for easy mods (pack size, an easy resist, more magic monsters, etc) and just run that. Low level maps are typically self sustaining. Plus i'm sure some people will give u low level maps to do on whatever league ur in
If you really don't feel comfortable doing maps you can grind catacombs or library or even still docks for a very few levels.
I dunno on beta i'm not to maps yet.

On beta The Aqueduct is love, it's basically the new Docks. Lots of packs, high monster density, easiest zone in Act4... I leveled there until lvl 76 and it was fast as hell.

I have high hopes for it since my ping usually is stable at between 30-40... which is pretty low. So it should be good.

Sure, but you can't leech life anymore... For a melee you would need both: Mana and Life Leech.

Wow the change to reduce mana is huge if it goes live, but I really like it. Less mandatory stuff, more choices to make when building characters. GGG is such a good studio imo, they have the balls to push such changes, and that's a rare thing nowadays
