For example, their gem system is a lot like the Materia system of Final Fantasy 7 - You find a gem, you socket it, it gives you a skill, then the more you use it (or maybe it's the more you gain XP regardless of using it or not), the more it levels. They also have a passive skill system which is very remincent of Final Fantasy 10's sphere system, but way better. Within the passive skills, they included the plus stats, so instead of leveling and having stat points and skill points, you only have skill points, but they also provide stat bonuses. honestly, when people said this game could compete with Diablo 3, I laughed at them. But the more I play this, the more I realize these people weren't exaggerating at all. This game is done extremely well, especially for being an indie developer, and if it's going to be free to play... enough people might play this instead of Diablo 3. One last thing - The currency in this game (or lack thereof...) is badass. No longer do you pick up gold, or gil, or whatever the hell currency other games use. Instead, you sell your items for pieces of Scrolls of Wisdom (Scrolls of Identify) or portal scrolls, or other things that I can't exactly remember right now. EDIT: I've only graced the surface of this game too. I've been a bit busy, but i'm planning to put more time into this week and see just how intricate this game can get.

Yeah I actually enjoy the skill gem and passive tree in PoE. You aren't limited at all I feel like if you do everything effectively you can make anything work. Its tons of fun just to explore the different options and create your own builds. As in Diablo2 you were stuck to a few builds unless you had the best gear in the game to just use at x level to carry you through. The currency is unique I love the trading items to the vendors system it adds extra value to that loot that you may consider to be worthless which in reality a 20% white or blue can be traded for an item of value. It adds more items to the "item hunt" instead of Rares>Orbs>Gems you have this whole list of item combinations to sell. But it can get aggravating when trading with players as usually they want something completely absurd for the item but other times you can get things at a great deal as people trade for the items they need not the relative value of said item. As I got a pretty good item for a Alch and a Scour as the guy wanted to turn a 6 socket 20% sword into a normal and then alch it into a rare.

Let's see how the game turns out when it's finished and if it can hold its ground (or _a_ ground) against D3. * Edit * Got a key from 4thHatchery - thanks!

If anyone got a spare key they dont need I'd be happy to take it off your hand so I can play with my friend up there! Thanks in advance!

There will be a ladderrace in 25 and a half hours with the usual level-competition, some side-competition for players being the first to finish certain quests and clearing certain areas! I will let you know if anyone is streaming. If you are lucky and someone will stream, there will be notifications of most of the relevant information about who reaches what area and who wins the sidequests, so you can enjoy 3 hours of pretty interesting livestream!

![]() dime won with imdisappoint second. Much of the reason why imdisappoint ended up as number 2 was that he took 6 out of the 10 bonuses finished with 4 first kills and 2 full clears earning him a wopping 32 random currency-items. dime had one netting him 5 currency items. The story of the night was number 3 Akazukin who lost his first character at level 10 25+ minutes in and decided to restart on a new character! Good run sir is all I can say! ![]() Unfortunately bad routing from ISP-side caused a bit of lag, but it was not bad enough to make it unplayable. Let us see if there will be a race next week. We are getting closer to the next big closed beta patch and probably one of the last big patches before the game enters open beta.

The game has literally the ugliest UI and UI art I've ever seen. And this talent tree is so convoluted, it's worse than the TBC attunement flow chart that Blizzard put out as a joke. http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/
